welcome to dayz,  modding mods. 
 
Been hosting dayz since august 2012 and there is always a new flavor of the month.  First all it took was adding a makarov to freshpawns to your server when Dean removed them and it would drive in players like crazy.  Then you had to have fancy auto-refuel, and then it was other mods like origins, overwatch, and finally epoch.  There's always a new flavor of the month.  If you want to keep hosting and keep a playerbase, you gotta either set the trend or follow it.
 
Also, the popular streamers dictate what mods are popular.  People watch them and see something cool, get excited and then go play that.  Right now, epoch (with overwatch guns) is the popular thing.  Who's to say what mod they showcase next?

I can't say much as a tester but I will say this.  The way the devs are handling this mod is excellent.  I may be biased but hear me out.  Every day, I see a new update has been posted.  Bug reports are taken seriously and if it is possible, the devs work (at an incredible pace) to fix bugs and implement new features.

my advice is don't.  
 
If you want to keep your playerbase, don't udpate till either A: battleye/gamespy shut down or B: DZC updates to show servers on steam browser.
 
Unless either of these conditions are met, you are in for a world of pain.

+1, Arma 3 Epoch is the best mod i've played of any Arma game, period, some of the features already in like the way you get loot are perfect for this type of game. You guys are going to love it.

Firstly, I'm sounding like a broken record here... #1 rule of programming/server admin/IT.  Never trust the users.  Its not the users faults for failing to comprehend a complicated system such as installing mods in arma2.  Dotjosh did a ton of work for the community making this process super simple and most likely got jack in return for it.  If it wasn't for him, hardly anyone would be playing dayz mods.
 
Lets not forget our alternative, playwith6 which is un-intuitive and not user friendly at all.
 
dotjosh has done a shitload for the community which he never had to do at all.  So I think he at least deserves a tiny bit of respect for that.
 
Secondly, gamespy was supposed to shut down 16 days ago... that never happened. So why would he update his program if it is still working perfectly fine.
 
Finally, if you don't like the launcher or dotjosh, then roll your own damn launcher.  If you can't then learn how and do it, if you just don't want to then shut up and quit complaining.

Because it's looking for @DayZ_Epoch1051 instead of @DayZ_Epoch. Maca did it for versioning, which I think was a bad approach.

Any donations that you people made to him probably helped pay for his expenses for one month. I made a donation to the Epoch team many months ago, but if they stopped development today, I wouldn't rant and cry and say I donated so they have to keep making it. If you were a chief investor in his resources and you were spending $100 a month on a dedicated server for him, I could see you being upset, but if you donated once, don't cry and just use the other launcher. It now has favorites. :)

It just boggles my mind how entitled people become after making a donation. I get it's annoying that something stops working (for you), but that does not mean the creator owes you in any way.

Actually it is not. He is under no obligation to maintain anything. He's not under contract. That's the whole "donation"  idea. You can expect whatever you like, doesn't mean he is under any obligation.

Even if he never ever ever updates, he deserves past and future donations for his work provided up until now. Thousands of people enjoyed his work on a day to day basis.

No I don't host Epoch I just have a regular DayZ server but I came to this forums because it's a lot more active then OpenDayz now a days. I don't think it's related to errors as well. Like I said I haven't changed anything in weeks and this started appearing about 3-4 days ago. It's not that bad, I get like 1-4 complaints per restart. But it's still weird.
