    You can be banned from this forum for violating the following rules;

No flame-bait posts. Questioning moderation, calling anyone out, Airing dirty laundry or making a post that could result in a provoked reply will not be tolerated and result in a permanent ban. Follow the instructions given by moderators. If you are asked to stop doing something and refuse to comply it can/will result in a permanent ban. If you feel you can't receive help from a moderator you will need to private msg Axle or AWOL. Search before posting. If you have a question, please use the forum search function before posting to make sure that it hasn't been answered before. There is a big chance it has, not only does searching help to keep the forum free of multiple threads it will also help you to get an answer much quicker. No Spam. We deem spam as making a thread or posting a reply that has no real worth, is irrelevant, useless and offers nothing to a discussion. Posting "any news" or "is it out yet" type posts are also spam. Messages of banned members are also considered as spam. If your post/thread is not able to illicit or sustain an in depth conversation then it's spam. This also applies to other areas of the forums such as leaving visitor messages on people's profiles. Spam may be dealt with by post count reduction, Post Restriction and/or a formal warning. No Politics or Religion, This includes the "Off Topic" forum No posting of hacks or exploits in public. Do report exploits in this special forum: http://epochmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/72-exploit-reports/ Do not advertise any commercial products or services. One Bump per 24 hour period. Report rule violations. If you see a violation of these rules on the forum, do not reply in the thread but send a Private Message to a moderator or use the "Report" button instead. Replying in the thread will be considered as spam. Reporting posts contribute to a well structured, well-disciplined forum which benefits everyone. Posting addon/mod other content without permission. The first and most fundamental rule is that you must seek permission to alter someone's work, to mirror it or use it in any way other than for personal use. No permission, no editing, no mirroring, no adding to your mod pack, no editing and sharing around your private squad, none of that is acceptable.   Obviously we cannot, unfortunately, control what people do outside of these forums, however on these forums you must follow this rule, if a person/team post a thread to share an addon/mod using content from someone else without permission and we receive a complaint then the mod thread will be closed until the issue is resolved and the forum member(s) risks being permanently banned from these forums for taking someone's work without permission.   This isn't just limited to re-using content in addons/mods/missions however, it's not acceptable to edit someone's work without permission and then to post screenshots of it on the forums (even if the edited addon/mod is purely for personal use), it's also not acceptable to edit someone's work, or use someone's work in any way that you don't have permission for and then to create videos which you post on these forums, doing any of the above without the permission of the original creators risks a permanent ban, for individuals, for whole mod teams or squads. Content in your signature must comply with all forum rules. Total maximum image size is 600x150 px. Total maximum image size is 100KB. The signature may be used to advertise your clan, fan-site or addons for Epoch Mod, but not as a billboard for flaming or opinion statements.
Write in English. Please write only in English on the public forums. Avoid writing in any other language or any kind of slang or txt speak since the majority of the members most likely won't understand. In private messages you are of course welcome to write in any language you wish.
No duplicate accounts. Having several accounts is strictly forbidden. If you want to get a new account contact a moderator. If you wish to change your name for any reason we will be happy to do that, if you discover you inadvertently ended up with two accounts we can merge them for you, better to inform a moderator than risk being banned as a "dupe". Please note that due to abuse by people trying to circumvent the duplicate account rules we do not allow forum accounts to access the forums using a VPN/Proxies/Tor network etc. etc. if you feel that you need to use this kind of service because of security/privacy/network tunnelling concerns please contact a moderator.

Axle reacted to Uro in GUIDE: FireDaemon XML for Arma 3 Epoch
There seems to be some people struggling with the concept of setting up Arma 3 within FireDaemon.

This XML is for people who install thier servers in a SANE location - I wont offer any assitance to anyone who insists on installing thier server in a "program files" location. :P
This also is for people who use the default file structure that comes with the Epoch Server files.

I will make things easy for you by giving you a copy of a working Arma3.xml for FD.

Things you will have to do in FireDeamon after importing it:
PROGRAM TAB - Change Working Directory to the location of your Arma3 Server's folder. PROGRAM TAB - Executable - check it exists at that location. Use [...] to point it to the executable (Arma3Server.exe) if it differs from default. PROGRAM TAB - Modify the Parameters specific to your server -  IP / PORT PRE / POST SERVICE TAB -  Modify the location of the Working Directory for the included Tools\log-rotator.cmd. This along with the imported XML should get you up and running.
NB - All the timings set in this XML work for me, you may need to tweak them a little depending on your Server's setup.

    Arma3.xml for FireDaemon (copy/paste into Arma3.xml)
    http://pastebin.com/rEBveMUb

    Recommended(slightly more advanced):

Epoch requires BEC running, so this is worth a read!

Set up BEC via FireDaemon. Set up a dependency in the BEC Service requiring the A3 Epoch Server Service is running prior to starting. If you shutdown / restart your server BEC will go down/up with it. Recommend setting a delay to ensure the server is UP before the BEC Service starts. Alternatively:
Create a batch file to execute BEC, set this up in the POST SERVICE tab within the Arma 3 Epoch Service This will initialise BEC after the server has started I recommend setting a delay on this to ensure the Arma 3 Server is UP before BEC starts.
NBB -  DO NOT do both of these methods or you may have multiple BEC's running and/or looping on a restart.

There are a bunch more options in FD of which there are guides on their website.

Also ProTip, FireDaemon have pre-made XML's for common applications on thier website :P

Axle got a reaction from axeman in Epoch FAQ
We get a lot of questions so lets get the information out there:

Q: What's the deal with Epoch and it's Sponsors?
A: Our sponsors provide us with a free server/dedicated box for testing. In turn we put their banner on our webpage. We do not receive profit from any GSP in the form of affiliate deals.

Q: Do you guys make money doing this?
A: No, in fact it actually costs money. Donations and ad revenue from the site are used to pay for the website software licenses and server rental costs. Most team members do accept donations on there own and we have also been known to do crowdfunding like: limited edition T-shirts and the funds from this type of fundraising are shared with the team.

Q: Can I depbo, edit and update any of the content in Epoch pbo's for my own use?
A: Yes, for your own use but you may not redistribute it. As Our License states it is not permitted to redistribute derivatives of our work. Instead we encourage the community to report bugs and provide feedback on what they would like changed here: https://github.com/EpochModTeam/Epoch/issues

Q: Does your license prevent me from customizing my server?
A: Absolutely not, you are more than welcome to customize your server. Learn from our code examples and documentation and add your own new code to run along side Epoch. The Epoch Mod Framework is meant to be customized so if you find something you cannot change, let us know about it here: https://github.com/EpochModTeam/Epoch/issues

Q: Can I monetize my server while running Epoch Mod?
A: Yes, as long as you follow the rules set by BI.   Q: Why does Epoch Mod not release more often and with more features?
A: Simply put time and money, We all have jobs we must attend to and family's to raise. If we could monetize part of the project with a one time low price we could all dedicate much more time and get more features and assets added quicker.

    Q. Why does Epoch not have X,Y,Z feature that DayZ Epoch did?
A: We likely just have not gotten around to adding it yet as the scope of A3 Epoch is very large, we had to initially limit the scope of the project to be able to work out the framework and core systems. Given time we will be adding more features you maybe familiar with, and new ones that may surprise you.

I signed up to this forum just to say this. I'm new to ARMA 3 and the Epoch mod, and I'd just like to say thanks to the dev's and such for being so bloody quick at releasing a patch.
I cant believe how quickly you managed to combat the patch and release a new version of the mod so players like myself can enjoy the game.

You sacrificed time in you're own lives so that others may appreciate something you've created, and well, all I can say is thank you.

To turn around something in less than a day is nothing short of remarkable.
I play on consoles too, and no, I dont care for the console/pc comments, I enjoy and experience all aspects of gaming. For consoles it can take weeks to release patches and stabilise games, you did it in a day.

    Bloody well done chaps.

Thank you, Awol and team, for all that you do!  Please don't feel that your efforts are not respected and appreciated, because that couldn't be further from the truth!  This update today blind-sided most of us.  I can't speak for everyone, but I had no idea there was an Arma update coming today or that there was even a 1.44 RC out, which is surprising because I'm normally on top of that stuff.  Had we known the update was coming we could have prepared our players a day or two ahead and let them know that there could potentially be some issues, as should be expected anytime there's an Arma update.

Perhaps you could create a e-mailing list or a news section on the forums only for verified server hosters so we can stay up to speed on the things that are coming down the pike.  Then we can take that official information and distribute it to our players in advance.  That would definitely help things go over more smoothly among all the various communities.  There will still be complainers, as there always will be, but it will help.

Surely it's better for EVERYONE when issues with an Arma3 patch and Epoch are fixed without hundreds of server owners having to do multiple updates as issues are fixed?

Unless you and your playerbase prefer you updating your servers multiple times per night, with multiple restarts disrupting thier gameplay further.......

    No? thought not ;)

AWOL pushed out the 0.3.0.3 client files prior to the 0.3.0.3 server files to test on a core group of unmodified servers to further test the hotfix before unleashing it to the general populous.,

Now you have the added benefit that all your players who have downloaded or pre-loaded the new version will be ready to play as soon as you have updated your server just one time.

Axle reacted to vbawol in Epoch Server 0.3.0.3 Build 9 Changelog
    0.3.0.3 Build 9

    Native Linux Support
Thanks to a once over by devd our backend codebase now compiles natively on Windows or Linux. We will now officially support both Linux and Windows Epoch servers. Also included is a modified for Epoch linux start script by BIstudio, and Nasdero.

    Disabled CRC check
With this check disabled it is no longer absolutely required to update the backend dll with each server build. Updates will still be required from time to time as version checks will still ensure the proper version for compatibility.

    Battleye Integration
Direct integration with Battleye means we now have the following features server side: Requires (IP,Port, password) to be specified via the epochserver.ini. Some features are for future EAH updates and documentation will be provided for use server side by modders.
shutdown - shuts down the server with the #shutdown command. lock/unlock - lock and unlock the server. message - Broadcast a message to everyone from BE say command. kick - Kick user with message. ban. - Ban user with message and duration. Scripted Server Restarts
When enabled this feature will broadcast a message 5 minutes before restart and lock the server. Then message every 1 minute, till it kicks everyone from the server with the message "Server Restarting" before forcing a restart. This will ensure everyone saves before the server shuts down. Default state of this feature is disabled, when enabled the server will restart every 4 hours (14400 seconds). This can be changed via the epochconfig.hpp.

    Optimization and Data Reliability
Optimized writing/reading more than 8K chars to database and fixed an Issue with potential data corruption issue when saving data.

    NPC Traders Roaming
By default traders and their markers should now move with as they move from work to home. Server side trader FSM updated to fix direction issues.

    General Fixes
Removed "srifle_DMR_03_spotter_F" from loots.h as it is missing textures.
If a player logs out in a vehicle they will be moved to the nearest static trader city.

    EAH 2.0

    More Config Driven.
Most all security checks can now be enabled/disabled and/or configured via security_checks.h inside epoch_server_settings.pbo.

Whitelist Variable Scanner with Learning Mode.
This scanner has the ability to ban any user that has a global variable set that is not explicitly allowed via whitelist. This check is disabled by default as it requires some setup to prevent false positives. Before enabling the variable scanner you need to profile your server so the server knows what variables to trust. Learning mode should only be used with a trusted group of players then disabled after profiling is complete.

    Battleye integration
With the integration of loadbans and loadevents, (BEC + watchdog) should no longer be required to use EAH.

    Forced Quality and Viewdistance
This feature forces all players to have the same viewDistance and terrain detail. Changes can be made in server settings pbo.

Axle got a reaction from TheStainlessSteelRat in same, select number of clients experience microstutter
We do not have the time nor do we care much what you run on the server. But if it breaks our license it's another issue. But it doesn't apply here.

As for you initial issue, Best bet is to run a test server.

In order to get good results you need to narrow down what is happening and make sure it's controlled.

1 Just run Default Epoch with Default settings at max players for a few days or less to at least get a baseline. Use ASM and Client feedback
A: Make sure the build limit is maxed on the server and people have populated tents/shelves/lockboxes.
B: Start adding your mods one at a time while monitoring stability with clients and ASM.
C: Do your calls fight with our calls? in regards to customizing your server.

    2. Are those players using SLI or Crossfire? A well known cause of your issue can and usually is caused by multi GPU's Even if it's a Single card Dual GPU card. It can and will cause micro stutters.

    3. Are your players using up to date drivers or preferred drivers for the specific game. Do they have any useless software that might conflict with driver/game settings?

    4. Do you have any scheduled tasks running when this occurs, for example: Antivirus, Defrag, adware, malware.

The plain fact is that if you can discount the many many issues that can and will cause a micro stutter/shudder/shutter or however it's known. Then I'd have to say it's probably due to the max limit of your building/vehicles and objects in general.

It could help to know your build limit, vehicle limit, storage limit, and mods being used with the average number of players during peak hours or at the time of occurrence.
