    I have nothing to say regarding falling populations except that; my sever is set up to my own flavour, mods and map additions. My server is not fun, it's hard work, a challenge to most and an intended lure to the survivalist. I have never asked for donations, indeed I spend all day at work as a public servant, retire home to care for my family then spend six to eight hours a night on my server, mostly alone at the cost of £30/month. I see myself as Robert Neville, carrying on when no-one else can.
     
    I decided to become an administrator after too many deaths at the hands of mental screaming children. For me; DayZ has become deeper, a routine for survival but not a death-match for cheap thrills. Perhaps many have become administrators for similar reasons, diluting the player-base somewhat; there are quite a few servers out there. I've tried to differentiate my server as a simulation of the apocalypse; a subject which unremittingly fascinates me.
     
    Every now and then I find a player whom shares my passion for survival, a rare thing indeed. Much of this community I find here are sound. But the majority of the player-base are apparently interested in guns/tanks/headshots: Overpoch, Rmod, Overwatch. Those fickle players are welcome of course, but I anticipate imminent desertion when they realise they cannot craft gyro-copters from toolboxes!?! I considered advertising for mature players, but I disagree with exclusion: all are welcome, few may remain.
     
    I make no excuses for myself or my server, surely an acquired taste and one which does not appeal to the masses, but that suits me just fine.

    Guys you really need to update your arma version this weekend.  June 30 is final gamespy shutdown,  and Battleye will not protect older versions after june 30th.   You are urged to upgrade to the new steam version (125548).
     
    This guide is designed for private server hosting with access to all files, epoch 1.0.5.1 installed, with the steam version of Arma 2 + Arma 2 OA.
     
    To do so: 
     
    step 1:  go to your operation arrowhead folder
     
    step 2:  delete the all the exe files (ArmA2OA, arma2oaserver, ArmA2OA_BE)  if you don't have ArmA2OA_BE skip it.
     
    step 3: go into your Expansion\ folder
     
    step 4: delete the beta\ folder and all it's contents.  If you don't have a beta folder, skip it.
     
    step 5:  go to steam library -> operation arrowhead -> right click -> properties -> beta -> Choose your version.  Opt-out (stable) Opt-In (beta)  1.62- (older version)
     
    step 6: wait for game to switch to versions
     
    step 7:  go to steam library -> operation arrowhead -> right click -> properties -> local files -> verify integrity of the game.
     
    step 8: wait for game to verify and then launch arma 2 oa from steam library.  check to see if you have the new version in the bottom right corner.

    For a point of reference... when I launch my arma OA.. at the main menu I see:
     
    - 3 pictures in the bottom-left corner: first one is Dayz Epoch, next one is Arma 2, next one is Arma Arrowhead.
    - In the bottom-right corner it says version 1.63.125548 and beneath that it says 1.0.5.1
    - In the top-right corner, under the dayz epoch picture it says Dayz Epoch 1.0.5.1.
     
    If you got all that it should work on newly updated servers, like mine.  If you are missing any of that try clicking the expansion button and activate them.

    SERVER OWNERS EXTRA STEPS:  
     
    Step 9: Copy the entire contents of your Arma 2 & Arma 2 OA folder into your server folder.  This should update your server to new version. 
     
    STEAM VERSION EXTRA STEPS:
     
    Step 10:  Change your launchers .exe paths: Expansion\beta\arma2OAserver.exe (delete the red part.  steam version uses exe in the main folder, not the expansion\beta folder.)   
     
    Step 11:  In your config.cfg add two lines at the very top:
    steamport = 2300;
    steamqueryport = 2301;
     
    Step 12:  add port forwarding to these ports.
     
    Step 13:  In your config.cfg update your requiredBuild = 125548;
     
    Step 14:  In your config.cfg.. right below your requiredBuild add this line:
    requiredSecureId = 2;
     
     
    Notes:
     
    - Keep the old gamespyreportingIP= in the configs.
    - Keep your old port forwarding.
    - Keep the -port=2302 in the launchers.
     
    If you have any problems feel free to pm me.
     
    WARNING A LOT OF EPOCH CUSTOM SCRIPTING DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY ON NEW VERSION. RECOMMENDED: FRESH SERVER INSTALL AND ADD SCRIPTS 1 BY 1.
     
    With steam,  it has new steamID.  I'm not 100% sure but it looks like I have a new GUID also.  When players connect to the database it will create a whole new player to the database with the new steamID.  In the database it will keep the old entries with playerUID and create all new entires with steamIDs.  This may, or may not cause DB issues/loading issues.  Not sure.  All players will start with a new, fresh character... kills reset, humanity reset, plot poles will need not recognize you as owner, etc...  I'm guessing all the player bans need to be updated, and I doubt that is even possible, so server admins need to find there own ways to deal with these problems.  So we need to be extra vigilant against hackers.  My information tells me that Dayz commander will not work after the gamespy shutdown unless we are very lucky, so I am recommending this update to all server admins.

    If it were up to me, I'd run 1st person only 0.0001% lootchance and night only. But that would just leave the server empty. And if that's the case, I'd rather set up a local server for myself on my pc.

    You wouldn't, that's fine. Some like marmite, some don't. I think your position is that: if the server is empty we should give up? I'm sorry but I disagree.
     
    I have huge respect for people like you whom have many servers and serve them well, I'm sure. But sometimes people simply want to play their way; whether that's popular or not is irrelevant.

    Good man.  Also, sooner or later people will realize that it's the server operator's fault for enabling such a distasteful environment of bubble wrap and happy meals.  Once the precedent has been set on a player's first impression, it's difficult to dial it back to a reasonable state for them without causing frustration and disdain.  The normal difficulty coupled with the relative balance was overshadowed by shitty eZpoch scripts to flash and woo new players.

    I think the funniest server name that we saw was "-MOST MODS selfBloodbag/safezone trader/etc..."

    Either way, we hope to calibrate the barometer a bit in a3 epoch alpha testing.  This way players will know what to expect...

    A super hardcore server would interest me as much as a super fun time server would do. Anything in the middle is just meh.

    The things I'd like in a hardcore server....

    Only used cars.
    Manual Repairs and refuelling only.
    Bloodbag only at medical trader.
    Only low end military rifles which would be rare and of course hunting rifles & shotguns, which would be plentiful.
    Only aircraft would be mozzies and light planes.

    I hope you're wrong about the survival part. I just died after "living" for 25 days in a pretty hostile server, that sinking feeling I got when I died makes me want to survive even if it means never doing another AI mission (was killed by AI through concrete walls). Having easy access to impressive vehicles like APCs and helis / planes is where the survival part is thrown away for me. Its ok to find a funcfional piece of military equipment or repair one using scrap but I doubt there would be large aircraft and armor salesmen in an apocalypse. That says alot too since I'm a huge fan of the piloting in ArmA, just dayz makes me feel like walking or driving is more survival oriented.

    Maze completed, built entirely in-game therefore extravagant it ain't. Come and have a look though and see what you think; minor loot crates included. You'll have to find and board the LHD carrier first, then enter the lower floor to find the cargo hold crammed with 'obstacles.' Good luck...
     

     
    I'd like to thank you for the idea though. I'd pondered upon the use of the cavernous space inside the LHD and your request inspired me. Thanks muchly...

    It had been two weeks since the infection hit Chernarus. This new air born virus supposedly came from one of the crew members on the tanker that had crashed at Rify which spread to Berenzino. The United Nations was brought in to contain the outbreak of pathalovan virus in cities. They had set up quarantine zones and checkpoints around Chernarus hoping to minimize the spread of the infection but quickly became an outbreak in major cities. 
     
    I remember soon after it all started I had packed food, a couple bottles of water, a Colt 1911 with a just a single magazine, and a medical kit into my Red Volkswagen Golf and tried to head out of the city. I had been driving for some time and got to a slowed line of cars that looked to have the same intentions as myself. It was a United Nations checkpoint at Krutoy Cap scanning for any signs of infected or "sick" people trying to leave the country. I remember the high H-barrier walls that lined the road like high cliffs in a valley and the smell, the smell was something I had never smelt before but would become very common in the coming months. After waiting for almost ten minutes I had finally gotten into the checkpoint and I was directed to go through the tents for a random search, "random my ass." I whispered under my breathe as I was escorted  through. They patted me down to check for any weapons finding my Colt wedged in the back of my waist and confiscated it. I was then taken for further inspection by some doctor who later deemed me to be what he called "questionable." The guard that had the ghastly job of escorting random people around had an M4A1 which was in a pretty rough state with some sort of red dot sight. The god awful smell that lingered around the checkpoint was so potent it was starting to make me feel sick. I was at what seemed like the twentieth tent where I couldn't take the stench of the area and was sick all over the floor. That was a really bad time to be sick. While I was on the ground vomiting everything that was in my system up all over the floor I noticed an increase in the amount of people circling me. When I was finished painting the floor with my digested food I looked up to see rifles, shotguns and hand guns being pointed at my face with every one screaming something different at me. After a couple seconds of panic by the guards of the checkpoint I was grabbed by the arms and dragged to a train platform. Turns out I was being going to be deported to who the hell knows where. While I sat there waiting for something to happen whether it a train or me to be shot for being infected I discovered what the smell was, it was a the smell of death. Corpses piled on top of each other in a mass grave just burning, they were burning infected people that weren't being sent on trains. After sitting at the platform for about half an hour a train came and I was thrown inside one of the three box cars. I picked myself up off the wooden floor of the box cart only to see the door close and hear the sound of a heavy padlock and chain lock the door shut. I sat there for what seemed like hours while I heard others being loaded into the other box carts and the doors being locked. The train jerked forward in an attempt to start moving and soon we were slowly starting to move down the track. Little did I know that this was going to just be the beginning of the hell I was soon to endure.

    So, guys, I'm giving up my server after 9 months due to this crappy steam update!
    I will spare anything I collected in that time and I hope you will enjoy it like my regular players did.

    I dunno why but my whole thread was deleted, I posted this already yesterday and got also an answer for it.

    I'm not allowed to post too many screenshots, so I had to link them.
     
    Mother - was the biggest I had on my server. It has 1322 objects all over the map!

    Special Map Script for Chernarus
    In this SQL I created all trader cities completely new!
    I will upload the final mission.sqf, mission.sqm and my server_traders.sqf, because I changed all traders, marks and some positions!
    Take notice that I removed one boat dealer and one wholesaler and even the bandit dealer!
    Instead I added a Trashman, Weed Dealer and a Deluxe Food Trader. (later more on that)

    In the mission.sqm I defined/changed the new marks and greeting messages you will see when you enter an outpost.
    Also the distances were adjusted.
    Beware, I left in the command lines for a dome sript I used to protect my new base westside of Lopatino in the outbacks!
    It also holds command lines for Skalisty Island. Peeps get warned to enter a restricted area. (refering to the Skalisty Bandit Base Script below)

    In the following you will find the entries for the database for the new traders:
     
    The Trashman buys trash like razors and empty cans, books etc.
    In my WAI missions I used additional food cans and drinks as reward that are already implemented but not used in Epoch.
    These ones the Deluxe Food Trader buys and sells.
    The Weed Dealer buys and sells hemp, which I also used in a WAI mission as reward (50kg of it :D)
    I also used a script to smoke the shit...
     
    You may adjust the inserts for your implementation, because I used fixed ID's for the first time!

    I was the opinion that it's much too easy to gain money, so I sat down for some dayz and changed all default prices!
    Buying prices are high, selling prices low. I raised the prices for fish to make it more attractive to go fishing.

    Interesting idea. At such scale the base would have to rest somewhere level otherwise the buildings would appear sunk/raised upon the landscape. Perhaps creating several smaller modular units to account for the changes in elevation. They could be specific to requirements: Medical, Armoury etc.

    Heyas,
     
    Been working pretty hard on our server and have relocated all the traders.
    Aim was to come up with something that felt more natural.
     
    Also added in some POI military areas for players.
     
    There's also a specific area called classified which I came up with which spawns dynamic loots on the ground in the area, and is protected by a helicopter and AI paratroopers.

    Unfortunately due to the way the script works if you login through the middle of the script running you wont hear the sires or see the nuke smoke, this is due to the script spawning the effects on the players who are online at the time the script executes and runs local on them. Also logging out and back in will stop it. Only the after effects are JIP (rad zone, marker,ash,colours and wind)
     
    as for the simple messages replace effects .sqf with this for now

    Its not really hard to add/use journal in epoch, since most files are still integerated in dayz_communityassets. You only need a custom-compiles. How this is done can be read in forum more then one time, so search for it und use your brain! All necessary files are included in the rar-archive
