    We get a lot of questions so lets get the information out there:
     
    Q: What's the deal with Epoch and it's Sponsors?
    A: Our sponsors provide us with a free server/dedicated box for testing. In turn we put their banner on our webpage. We do not receive profit from any GSP in the form of affiliate deals.
     
    Q: Do you guys make money doing this?
    A: No, in fact it actually costs money. Donations and ad revenue from the site are used to pay for the website software licenses and server rental costs. Most team members do accept donations on there own and we have also been known to do crowdfunding like: limited edition T-shirts and the funds from this type of fundraising are shared with the team.
     
    Q: Can I depbo, edit and update any of the content in Epoch pbo's for my own use?
    A: Yes, for your own use but you may not redistribute it. As Our License states it is not permitted to redistribute derivatives of our work. Instead we encourage the community to report bugs and provide feedback on what they would like changed here: https://github.com/EpochModTeam/Epoch/issues
     
    Q: Does your license prevent me from customizing my server?
    A: Absolutely not, you are more than welcome to customize your server. Learn from our code examples and documentation and add your own new code to run along side Epoch. The Epoch Mod Framework is meant to be customized so if you find something you cannot change, let us know about it here: https://github.com/EpochModTeam/Epoch/issues
     
    Q: Can I monetize my server while running Epoch Mod?
    A: Yes, as long as you follow the rules set by BI.
     
    Q: Why does Epoch Mod not release more often and with more features?
    A: Simply put time and money, We all have jobs we must attend to and family's to raise. If we could monetize part of the project with a one time low price we could all dedicate much more time and get more features and assets added quicker.
     
    Q. Why does Epoch not have X,Y,Z feature that DayZ Epoch did?
    A: We likely just have not gotten around to adding it yet as the scope of A3 Epoch is very large, we had to initially limit the scope of the project to be able to work out the framework and core systems. Given time we will be adding more features you maybe familiar with, and new ones that may surprise you.

    Two questions I would like to ask from Axle and his team are as follows:

     

    What is the official relationship with the official server hosters?

     

    What is the Official future of modding the server files?

     

    Axle, remember that we have supported you for an age now, I don’t think asking for transparency is a bad thing. Even more important when you’re asking for votes for MOD of the year.

    Wow that when on longer than it needed to!

     

    The official hosters are here to help us develop the mod while allowing their community to experience what we have to offer. This includes reporting issues and providing feedback on the features we are working on. 

     

    The Official future of modding goes like this. Right now for Alpha/Beta the CRC will be in place to prevent modding of our files. Also the obfuscation will be removed as well. These locks should be lifted once the mod goes "Gold" or Version 1.0 live.

     

    I agree that transparency isn't bad at all. In the end the mod will be just about as open as DayZ: Epoch is.

    Because we chose/choose to run an alternative antihack to the inbuilt one so we can update it ourselves when new threats arise, my server was removed from the official list in my absence, when I returned home and rectified everything as per their requests they've gone silent now.

     

    I've tried to reason with Awol and Sequisha to rectify this but they've been very vague, after a period of no response I went onto the Epoch TS and asked Axle in his capacity as, and I quote from the readme in client files "Kenneth Bente - Axle - Public Relations"

     

    I was then told that it's public relations, not server admin relations.

     

    I'm passed the point of caring and I could care less if you don't return me to official status, but your issue with infiSTAR isn't mine, or my communities.

     

    This is a snippet of the attitude of the developers i've had to deal with (by all means delete this post but it will go up on our Facebook and forum)

     

    Lets cut to the chase here MGT, your removal was long overdue.

    Wohoooo Axle, calm down. Why so upset? Because i ask you for a reply?

    I did not put the "...making a shitload of money..." thing anywhere in here. I just want a answer to my questions.

    Will read your Post right now...but before that:

    I would pay for a Server file licence. Just to make my Point clear. And i am also a Donator...this should Show you who i am supporting and what i think about making money.

    Lets get some things straight. First about us taking money from GSP's so they can be first. That's false, they were given a few hours head start as a thank you for providing us with dedicated servers that we needed for testing.

    Second we stole infistars work... False we have been working on our own for nearly a year. Also don't you think if we stole it more of it would be working.... and then there is the fact that he has no real proof or time stamps as to who did what first, just some doctored up pics. Lets not point out the fact that his UI looked nothing like it did until he got his hands on our files. Then lets forget the fact that he's used our code, or that he used our filters.

    We on the other hand have proof of what happened when. So lets not start throwing stones Chris.

    We make ZERO profit from this and in no way commercialize it. We do this work because we want to build something we can enjoy. If you guys enjoy it too then that's great and what drives us to continue making it something special.

    We are not in the game to make a living off of you guys and never have been. We decided to start working on Arma 3 well before the contest was started. ALL of our work is our own and will continue to be, besides the obvious A2 portable stuff.

    Finally. We will not support a thief that makes a living by profiting off of something you have already payed for. You bought the game, you own it. You shouldn't have to invest any more money into it. I find it amazing that you guys are so willing to support some one who has in the past hacked willingly, stolen and then preys on your weakness to profit. While we have done nothing but stuck to our guns, done what is right and supported you all by giving you our work so you guys can enjoy it.

    Not throwing stones here, Axle.  I'm on board with you guys.  You have my utmost respect.  I don't have the patience to do what you guys do.  That and the fact that my ADD won't let me.  lol!  :)

     

    I just wish people knew that we aren't here to play big brother or steal or be the bad guy. We are just here to make a mod we like playing. Didn't think we might have to hire a legal team......

    The only thing that concerns me is the allegation of the DLL injection.  The rest of it I'm willing to chalk up to a professional disagreement and move on, because it doesn't really affect us users much at the end of the day. And the who stole what from who argument will probably never be solved.  It will go to court or possibly even arbitration and then a settlement will be made (if it even gets that far), the details of which will likely be sealed and that's the end of it.  As of now, I'd trust the Epoch team way more than Infistar anyways, just because of his past.   

     

     

    Yes because we make more than enough money. We don't have to worry about silly laws that can ruin our futures....

     

     

    In no way are we trying to break any laws or do anything illegal.

     

     

    so much butthurt. here and there...

     

    Anyway.. i like this game and i hope that what ever... "rules" etc has nothing to do with making a great game, god sake we have DLC now im not fucking happy about that because i think when i buy something i deserve what comes with it allways. "patches" But making these DLC costs money no less... and feels sad to say this but game companies today strive for making asmuch Bucks on a Decided Dev time, and releasing it no matter what!..

    gameplay = win/fail

    As nice as it would be to make a living off of this mod I'd much rather get some new map support in and stop this nonsense high school BS. Can has payed vacation?

    As goes for all post, whoever posts them. Can we have a sticky pointing out that Infistar related problems should be directed to Infistar, to avoid people asking genuine questions and get caught in a catfight?

     

    Lots of communitees will be using Infistar, and getting responses like "drop the case or you get banned" isn't really helping.

    A nice sticky pointing in the right direction will help here.

     

    I have no problems with a person inquiring as to what happened. But when they come in here and make accusations on a topic they have no clue about is when I take issue.

    They were banned because they come in here thinking they know about the situation at hand. I will not have people come into our forums and make false accusations about what did/didn't happen. Any real person that has used infistar and did a bit of digging around would see that Chris holds no ground with the pictures he doctored up.

    I'm not entirely sure where this sense of entitlement comes from, MDC.  Our focus has been trying to get Epoch at it's core as solid as possible.  It's not our responsibility to make sure all 3rd party changes and software are compatible right out of the gates. 

    We're still early in development, perhaps you'll just have to wait before sticking your fingers in someone elses work.

    Can you not see how saying that GSPs "deserve" to get them first is a kick in the teeth to pretty much every single person here?

     

    Not to mention that you're pretty much reneging on your promise to deliver the server files simultaneously for both GSPs and those of us with dedicated servers.

     

    Also, while we're here, lets address the fact that you've locked the server files down to the extent that it's virtually impossible to add ANYTHING custom to our servers.

     

    It says in your Install.txt - note, I haven't actually checked this yet, but we're talking about INTENT here - that you've added some sort of signature check to EpochServer.dll, which checks the server PBO and refuses to work if it has been modified in any way. Add to this the fact that ALL of your code - and I mean ALL of it - is in the server PBO, and it pretty much makes it impossible for anyone to mod their servers.

     

     

    Was it REALLY necessary to go to those lengths to stifle community spirit?

     

    First off, the files that have been let out are simply test files that will be needing replacement. Second they got them first because we wanted to say thank you to them for letting us use a dedicated boxs "THAT ARE NOT FREE FOR THEM" for a unknown period of time. 

     

    As for modding our work....... You could always make your own mod and do it however you like.

     

    Don't come in here throwing stones. We make NO PROFIT from what we do and we do it for the community. So STFU, sit the fuck down and wait like everyone else has to.

    I would assume its because of the servers...

    It put like this so that Epoch doesn't "Make Money" off it, but instead they get the servers to host it/develop.

     

    Correct, but it's just for development and to have servers for you guys to play on while the files are private. We use GSP's because they stand to lose a lot if they break our terms. This is why there weren't that many community servers. As a thank you to them and the community hosted servers, we have given them files early for testing. We should have the files out within the next 5-8 hours tops.

    I wonder when the server files are coming for the community and not only for the commercial hosters. Is it still all about money?

     

    I'd like to know what money you speak of. None of the GSP's give us money for anything. But as a thank you for the dedicated servers they provided, we are giving them access to server files a bit earlier. 

     

    Right now we have a couple of major issues that need to be sorted before we pass out the server files. Like AWOL said it might be a bit late but we will try to get them out today.

    Ohh I used foul language. Not denying that. But there is this show in America called "Bait Car" Mighty Mike got baited and took it hook line and sinker. Then blatantly lied to my face about it. Case closed. Those that have been banned have had their been removed and are more than welcome to join the server. As for Mighty Mike. He will not be playing on Mells house ever.
