That was a joke originally. Also by the looks of that texture, it's a bump map which no one uses anymore in gaming; because the engine would have to do more work establishing a proper normal map from geometrical face and vertex normals.
As for the "Alien Gray" archetype, I've never particularly been a fan.  Also, if we were to include such a thing, I would create it myself ;)

Progress on the template female character I've been working on.  Once she is in-game and works properly, ghillies and camo are soon to follow.

Well sure, but people have to keep in mind that his stuff is being used for commercial purposes now.  Maybe not the same appearance from in the mod, but a variation of it.  Legal or not, his teams rights as authors should be respected in this regard.

Wonderful post indeed, you bring up an interesting scenario...but one that is not likely to happen.  A merge of BP/Epoch, that is.
They have already shown the DayZ community that Arma III really does provide a wonderful framework for a sandbox game environment, and I respect that they've gotten as far as they have.

We do not share the same vision however,  modding DayZ was a wonderful educational experience and we love it for what it is...but moving forward we hope to tackle new challenges and provide a new scenario to explore for everyone.
Essentially, this means our own code, assets and concept(not to mention the best god damned community).  Even while we were in the thick of modding Arma II-Dayz and shaping Epoch, we tried our best to become self reliant.

We needed assets and a system to carry out the base-building concept, so we made the assets and coded it up.
We disliked the expendable value of mounted vehicle ammunition, so we did the same thing.  There were never any of those magazines previously available in any Arma game, so we made them.
The same shall reign true, if not more-so in Arma III...you won't be seeing any re-skinned Lee Enfields or switch-blade "code excerpts" from DayZ or any other mod.  We may not get everything we want into this game, but be sure we won't just release some re-hashed variant of things you've seen before.

We've just hit some pretty large milestones recently, so stay tuned as things develop.

I don't want you guys to have to come back to this thread for updates, as I'm posting progress on my Dev twitter now.

That's not entirely true, The UVs get flipped horizontally and rotated 90 degress in the unbinarization process.

Just to give an update on female skins, I'm finalizing the high poly mesh on a female base model.  I'm making sure proportions are natural so I won't have to make any severe changes in the low poly mesh.  Once I've prepared all the materials and rigged this new character for animation within Arma, numerous variants will follow very closely.  This is a huge research and development period for us on the epoch team, we're really pushing ourselves to push the limits and provide the best gaming experience possible.

I'm trying to make sure these new characters are top notch quality, as you guys deserve no less, especially for the amount of time you have supported us, and wanted more playable female characters.
The aim is to have these ready for A3 Epoch, but I see no reason why we couldn't incorporate them into the A2 mod if they're working in game.

Looks good, it's just a shame we can't get stuff like this baked in to the map.  It would help considerably with the number of objects the server is handling(as if that number isn't already bloated from base-building items).

I started out with modding Arma doing stuff similar to this, so keep at it and remain willing to expand.  Just curious, how many objects overall is this?

There's a reason I made the gems, and they serve an additional purpose that doesn't directly correlate to a dollar or gold value.  It's cool that you found them and started using them for your own intent and purpose, but that doesn't make it our problem.  I would suggest considering why you have such a bloated economy.  Apologies that the new system broke what you guys were doing, but it has made trading for everyone overall much less of a hassle.

This system has come a loooong way folks.  Epoch didn't start off with briefcases.  Does anyone remember having to max everything's price at 12 ten ounce gold bars?  Of course there's room for a higher tier currency, and that's something we're considering with the other ten billion things going on right now(including a3 Epoch *cough*).  My suggestion remains however, your economy is bloated...you may be injecting the world with too many valuable items, or their prices may be too rewarding within the scope of currency a player can hold.

Thanks for the suggestion indeed nicko!  Not likely to happen however, being that is one of the core game elements of this mod.

We'll also be including this variant of the Ind_Pec0a with loot spawns and completely explorable interior in the upcoming patch.  Has Ai pathing throughout the entire structure as well as painstaking detail taken to make it nooby proof in terms of collision geometry(no breaking legs on silly invisible stuff).  Very tight fire geometry as well so bullets should only be hitting what is visibly an obstruction, and should shoot through windows etc with proper penetration values.

I started working on this particular project in the middle of last year solely as an educational activity and never intended on releasing it; primarily because it was a modification of Bohemia's work(The shell that consisted of 30 faces :3).   But NOW, since Bohemia released all of the source models, including this one....we decided to finish this project and sneak it in with the patch.  Hope some of you get into some sort of trouble in this structure. Enjoy!
