A couple questions you may want to ask yourself:

What would happen in real life if you crashed a helicopter into a wooden shanty?

Would players want to waste their helicopter ruining someone's work if they were in limited or rare supply?

If such destructive tools are available in excess, nearly to the point of being freely expendable...
...then why are they so readily available?

This form of crafting is not only an *option*, but this modular base-building system also asks the question to individual server operators:
"Are we capable of adapting and balancing the cumbersome arsenal we provide to our player-base?" (if this is in fact a concern)

This question is, of course...if they're open minded enough to take a step back and review what their players really need.
Their hands aren't tied, the configs are there for amending; their choice entirely what changes they'd like to make.

The main thing is, they have complete control over weapons available, vehicles available and their own general set of guidelines; all of which are capable of
    governing the concern you have.

It's neither our decision nor responsibility to balance drastic changes that have been made by server operators.

Good man.  Also, sooner or later people will realize that it's the server operator's fault for enabling such a distasteful environment of bubble wrap and happy meals.  Once the precedent has been set on a player's first impression, it's difficult to dial it back to a reasonable state for them without causing frustration and disdain.  The normal difficulty coupled with the relative balance was overshadowed by shitty eZpoch scripts to flash and woo new players.

I think the funniest server name that we saw was "-MOST MODS selfBloodbag/safezone trader/etc..."

Either way, we hope to calibrate the barometer a bit in a3 epoch alpha testing.  This way players will know what to expect...

Awesome! Thanks for giving this its own thread, I know this was on the minds of a lot of us.

Wow, I have a completely different perspective. If the devs open this up too soon for people to start tearing into it and changing/customizing files all it leads to is every server owner trying to make their server unique, this in turn means that Epoch itself has no clear identity, which in turn makes it very difficult to improve/develop the core mod (default A3 Epoch) that is the foundation of every modified server out there.

Why is this? Because every player/server owner starts posting up complaining/asking for assistance/giving feedback based specifically on their server/the server they play on. Something that the developers cannot possibly work to fix or improve upon due the the sheer amount of verity of modded servers and their features along with the different technical issues born from them.

They need to keep it relatively 'In House' to start with so that we have a good quality, stable, and enjoyable 'core' game to play. With all the features that make it... well, Epoch, fully functioning and ready for use. It shouldn't be a case of: "Okay, they released the files, time to make my own mod". They are putting all this time and effort in to give what we all want Epoch A3 to be, instead of a box of bohemia branded lego with a loose set of instructions. Try to remember that it is these guys who have made the most popular dayz mod, who have listened to all we have said and fed it right back to us through patches and content updates, and who are trouncing the competition in the "Make ArmA not War" contest despite being relatively new to the ArmA modding scene. They are likely to know a lot more than one person and their sever of 50 players. Try to remember these guys don't owe you anything, it is if anything the other way round. They have received no payment for all this work bar that they have received from those of us who truly understand their efforts and are able to donate, yet have still poured 100% into it's development.

    To sum up:
Hold onto your panties and let them do what they have been doing a pretty damn good job of so far. When it is ready, it is ready, and you will enjoy it. What you do with it from there is up to you.

I've never been fond of the safe zones, I foresaw the admin overhead and immersion breaking problems they would create. It's unfortunate that server operators used it so much that a majority felt they were necessary.

Anyone who never experienced having to secure and remain cautious in a trade city has missed out on one of the most intense scenarios in Epoch.  It's not easy to explain for someone who just wants everything easy peasy, because they're generally the same breed that will go straight to an admin or a forum post to complain that they got killed...rather than running back and reclaiming what's rightfully yours, using your whits and other various game mechanics.

Instead, it became a "he got in my backpack" "He ram me adman". Quite funny really.

Sequisha reacted to Renique in When I play Arma 2 Epoch I dream of...
    Hi Guys,
my Name is René i am 27 years old and me and my friends are dead keen on getting our hands on Arma 3 Epoch. We are a 5-10 man Group of semi hardcore players that found DayZ in 2012 and since then could never get away from it. We did test like all the Mods and we even suffered on the WarZ sickness. And instead of begging for some early access to the game i think we should use the time to dream what Arma 3 Epoch could bring us and share our good and painful experiences.

    My Dream of Buildings :

Thinking about all the hours i've played DayZ (75% of it Epoch) one of THE BIGGEST moments was when i entered my first self made base in DayZ Origins. It was a really really small Bandit hut with just 2 Beds in it and some storage for some stuff. A Premade Base built with blueprints and farmed mats. It looked like shit but when i entered this thing and saw 2 Beds there, man i had the feeling every second of farming these stupid stones and wood pillars were worth it. This tiny little dump changed like everythin about the game for me. I wasnt wandering planless around the map anymore. I had target locations and i knew all would end in the little dump and i loved the feeling of it.

That was the time when the WarZ came along, and we all thought we can escape the Arma 2 engine and WarZ would bring glory to the land of survival mmos. Long story short WarZ was a pile of cheating kid flooded dogshit and you all know that so i returned because someone of my friends said, "Hey theres this new mod called Epoch and it looks pretty badass".

A modular building concept did not mean a word to me before but i fell in love with that. We were addicted to Epoch the second we build our first base. We started barricading castles and other buildings like everyone did but the beauty of this building system lies in building ur own stuff. We had a Base looking like the pentagon on an Epoch Taviana Server we built 10 floor wooden "skyscrapers". We horded fleets of cars and aircrafts in our base but no matter how big and fancy we build that stuff. I never got the same feeling of entering that tiny little dump again. And i think the only difference was the lack of furniture.

so my first Dream is : be able to add some furniture to my base, a bed to rest and regain health status seems like a little thing to have but i hope u share that point of view.

    My Dream of PvE/PvP :

Zombies or No Zombies thats the question! There will be a million reasons pro and a million reasons contra Zombies. so everyone should take his own side here, but should have respect and understanding for the other side. My experiences with Zombies were 95 % bad.

Lets talk WarZ again; first they were like supermorons that every child could kill and no one would care for, now they are hordes of morons that everyone hates cause they glitchhit you.In DayZ every guy i know playing DayZ complains about how zombies move and that they would be ok with Zombies if their movement wasnt laggy buggy and whatever. WarZ zombies werent laggy or buggy at the start of this game. but they were so slow and stupid that there was absolutely no difference whether they were there or not.
My point is as soon as you make those zombies non laggy and easy to kill they lose their reason of existence. And the biggest issue for me personally was. there was no damn reason to kill these things, no special loot no reward no fun nothing. I am not 100% sure if i am ok with no Zombies at all but at the moment I feel like giving this no Zombies thing a shot because every variation of zombies so far failed for me.

NPC missions on the other hand were like a f*** BINGO. Special loot marked on a spot on the map visual for everyone. Thats how you create PvP/Pve content at the same time. Add some NPC that guard this stuff with some bullets, so even if your the only one getting there in time you will have your challenge.

But i have a dream here aswell. Because playing 100+ of those missions did show me one thing : The longer you just hide in the bushes with your ghillie and wait, the bigger your advantage gets. Someone might clear all the NPCs for you and put all the loot in his bagpack one shot and all done. Dont get me wrong, I am not a "f*** you camper" ragekid but lets be honest, probably more than 80% of the fights that do not include atleast one Bambi(new spawned player) are fought by long distance Weapons. And for me this kind of destroys the atmosphere; thinking :"hey there was a Zombie apokalypse, we survived that and now everyone is a professional trained sniper". Evolution is all about survival of the fittest and Snipers are very fit indeed are they?

This is the one time i will use the WarZ as an positive example so please do not hate me for that. In WarZ we played like weeks with 5-10 People before someone of us found his first sniper rifle with 5 bullets. We had lots of melee - midrange fights and building fights and that was a lot more fun than ghillie searching beneath the trees.
Another possible way of treating that matter could be, that is it actually worth entering that Mission and gaining somethin from entering. Somethin more than weapons and stuff that can be taken from you when you leave that misssion.

    My second dream is :
    new PvE enemies
rare superevolved zombies that you kinda have to fight in a group,
NPC missions with a reason to get in first,
    NPC patrols
and a less "400-yard distance shooting" PvP balance by making Sniper rifles a real rare thing and maybe even harder to shoot, but i guess thats were Arma 3 sets the parameters.

    My dream of RPG :

As a big fan of mmorpgs i always enjoyed experience related stuff. If you by any means can talk of a class system right now, there is a bandit and a hero that can deal with different traders. The kill on sight mentality makes it alot easier becoming a bandit and kind of hard staying a hero
I gain alot of long time motivation from things that actually stay. So why not Introduce NPC factions, from where you can gain reputaion by only working on their missions. Or bring special items from mission to that faction and not any other.

My third dream is : a new Humanity System, that is now more like a Reputation based System.

So, now i am done wasting your time, its time for you to share your experiences with me!

(To clear things up, I am never talking about DayZ(as in DayZ standalone, never tried it, felt like too big of a step backwards from epoch to me, so DayZ = Epoch)

I preferred Romero's original vision on the undead.  There were a handful of games that were heavily influenced by his classy approach, like RE1-3...and they did it well.

I think that although the zombies provided a third party to help fill in the gaps in previous Arma mods and now a commercial title, we can all agree that they leave a lot to be desired.

People must understand what they like about the "zombies".  It was an easy archetype to use and could be carried out in a relatively easy way.  Always there to fill the void and give players something to shoot at.

I imagine some players think "well ok...no zombies? well I have to run for 2 hours to find something to fight with?!"  It's almost as if they're instantly under the impression that they won't have something to deal with in between, and this is most certainly NOT the case.  I could spend all day bantering about what we're doing, but I'd rather spend the time making it happen, developing it and then showing it.

Not personally worried about third party stuff at this time, because let's be honest....Self Blood bag....instant bike...script kill iron domes......safe zones.  Alllrighty then.
