Epoch release?

I'd go for an unfinished alpha personally :P

But I guess it's down to the devs choice... I'm not complaining either way - I'd prefer an early release & request for bug checks etc... more fun and people tend to feel more involved, but I can also understand why the devs want it to be kinda mostly working to avoid a backlash and complaints about it being buggy.

I'll just sit on my hands and keep checking for a release :P

Ok, well, if you had the choice between A3 Epoch being released unfinished with the purpose of mass testing, or waiting until it's shiny & working, which would you choose?

Are you f'king kidding me?  98% of Epoch players bitch about everything under the sun to begin with, let alone why they might lose all their precious materials that they've spent all so long gathering because devs had to fix one little thing or implement something or get rid of something.

The Epoch team has been fantastic in the past about getting work done without it completely breaking the game AHEMORIGINS so how about a little faith.  They've obviously been working pretty hard on it, and they don't want that hard work to go into the laps of those who are going to dismiss it right off the bat.  I would imagine that there needs to be enough there that whatever they want to change isn't going to effect players and players' data so much that they'll leave the game out of frustration.  I'm sure that's just part of it though.  Leave the kids to their work.  It's not like they're putz'ing around or going off to climb Mount Everest.. not that that would technically be slacking or something one shouldn't do if they got the chance, but you know what I mean!

As excited as I am to ditch Arma 2, I'm content playing it until the team feels it ready to release the new Epoch.  The whole Overpoch thing adds a little more excitement to things, doesn't it?  All the new guns, COLLECT THEM ALL and such.  And if you ever get bored of that, there's always servers with bambis to hunt. =]

98% bloody hell that is a high portion of players. I can't remember seeing or being asked to complete the survey though.

I don't know how mod teams work. Are they companies with voluntary staff, or are they super clever kids working from their bedrooms?

I used to play the Project Reality mod for BF2 so I kind of think all mods develop in a similar way. PR started out with just a few changes to the boxed game, maybe stuff like the sounds changed. Several years and many patches later, it was a completely different game to BF2.

That's how I imagined all mods evolved.

I would Love to get in a little earlier then a completed release, this way the community can help shape the outcome by testing things the dev's didn't epctect to break and to make suggestions on how things might be better.

98% of Epoch players? I agree with SkyDogs that High? My server members and I didn't get included in that survey.

You might notice that many people complain about stuff and some complain about having to complain. but to complain about something given freely that someone with more motivation and/or skill then you is just moaning for the sake of moaning and no one really takes these people seriously.

if there is an Alpha release then we get a chance to check out something in development (some games in early access have no right to , if they wait for a full release then we get something more fully functioning. either way we still still get about the same percentage or people moaning. if it isn't about something being broken it will be able something missing. or something added they don't like., Usually best to just filter out that junk and find the important questions and issues.

Also one hidden benefit of an early dev build alpha/beta would be if you have complainers trying it and then deciding they don't like it and abandon then isn't that a win for those of us who have to put up with them?

waiting for release wouldn't be too bad if they at least threw out a few more teaser videos or pieces of info. I don't mean any disrespect but I feel as though I'm following a stalling project.

I posted a video just a couple of days ago which demonstrates numerous advanced features.

Why would you think that?

Because it's an open world zombie survival game similar to the open world zombie survival game that borne this open world zombie survival game that we currently like to play.

Even though Arma3 Epoch won't be an open world zombie survival game, its players would have come from an open world zombie survival game, so it's safe to say that they, the players, have an interest in open world zombie survival games. And if a free to play open world zombie survival game is released and is really very good and addictive like the original open world zombie survival game, we may see a situation that open world zombie survival game fans will play the the really good and free to play H1Z1.

Now of course if H1Z1 was a small, scripted sword fighting game that forced its players to go down certain routes like some single player mission of Medal of Honor, then I wouldn't believe that A3 Epoch is in any way, shape or form in competition with H1Z1 or any other open world zombie survival game.

I hope that explains my thinking.

If H1Z1 was going to steal all the DayZ players, everyone would be playing Infestation: Survivor Stories instead of Epoch already :P

It sounds like h1z1 and DayZ are the only "Open world Zombie" games  you know of, i can assure you there are many. Also A3 Epoch will be going away from Zombies, putting it in a whole different genre. I am looking forward to H1Z1 as it looks interesting, But i am looking forward to Arma3 Epoch far far more, although I've learned not to get too excited while awaiting releases(Thanks to the StandAlone)

Yeah but that was shit by most accounts, and infested with hackers. I never tried it myself because I was too busy with DayZ and PRBF2.

DayZ and its sub-mods are the only open world zombie survival games I've played so far. H1Z1 'sounds' like it's going to be good, but of course the DayZ SA sounded like it was going to be good. In reality it is shit, utter shit; and Rocket was hailed a hero by much of the DayZ fandom as two million people clambered over each other to buy a game they were already playing, albeit with a few changes.

If Epoch is released first, and if it's really good like I suspect, then gamers will hear about it and buy Arma3 in order to play it. When H1Z1 follows, most of the Epoch players will still download the free to play H1Z1 game and give it a go....because it is free.

However, and this is where my argument stands up (IMO)....if the free to play H1Z1 game is released first and is really good, how many of those H1Z1 players will pay £35-£40 for Arma3 to try out Epoch when it's released? Probably quite a few, but nowhere near as many in a reversed scenario.

And saying they're two completely different types of games, so one won't affect the other, is nonsense.

How many people who are looking forward to Epoch are going to completely forget about it and not check it out when it is released if H1Z1 is released first? It doesn't work that way.

Hacking didn't start on the first day, and if I remember right most servers were packed the first day. H1Z1 looks the same, and will be free to play on top of that. There will be just as much hacking, if not sooner than WarZ. Whether or not the hacking gets stopped in the long run will be what matters. People still hack DayZ, the only difference is we've dealt with it more efficiently than WarZ.

.

For the love of God!

We, as in us on these forums, and others that already play and love Epoch will of course try A3 Epoch. We're already converts.

The other millions of PC gamers, in my opinion, are more likely to try A3 Epoch if they're not already occupied-with/in-love-with a free to play, open world survival game that's really good.

If H1z1 is shite or full of hackers that aren't being countered, then yes, it could go the same way as WarZ.

You have to remember that this works to the advantage of the community, All games get hackers and all games get trolls. but if you can create multiple accounts on a free game at no cost and use them to hack till they get caught, then create another one and start all over again then you don't really get penalized for it. If you have to pay  £35-£40 each time your get busted for hacking then that is a nice way to discourage people.

Also remember that H1Z1 is by SOE, makers of Planetside 2 (aka Hackerside2) they will work on anti hack but with no buy in cost people don't care and trying different ways to no get caught

I certainly can't speak for everyone, but I know that my clan and I will be trying out both H1Z1 and A3 Epoch, regardless of which of them is released first.  And whichever one has the better product and we enjoy more will be where we spend the majority of our time.  In my opinion, the quality and substance of the game matters way more than when it is released.  Case in point, I pre-ordered BF4 and played it for about a month before SA came out.  Once SA Alpha was open to the public I jumped on it and haven't played much BF4 since.  Why?  Because I enjoy SA more.  The same rationale can be applied to the H1Z1/SA/Epoch argument.  Make a good game and the gamers will come, regardless of which project hits the market first.

I would call that more than a few.

I'm kind of hoping the next video will be a let's play style video.
