SPIB0X got a reaction from natoed in Building/Crafting Ideas for future development
I'd like to just give the dev's some ideas (whether they take it or leave it, i'm not fussed). Please feel free to add to this list, consider the pros and cons of your suggestion, give a justification of its use and how it can fit the lore of the game and also think about how difficult or easy it will be to implement.

Consider the implications of your idea in the game and whether or not your idea will throw the balance way off, if so how can it be adjusted to maintain a healthy balance.

    1. Craft-able trip mines, with the ability for group members to disable them within a short period of time before they detonate, ideal for defending your base while you're out exploring or logged off. These wouldn't be persistent on restart, that would be OP.

    2. Walls with window hatches like the military towers, gives players internal vantage points and helps defend from INSIDE the base

    3. Half-height walls to duck behind but short enough to see over (currently half cinder walls are still too tall for people to shoot over)

    4. Metal X traps to prevent cars driving up to the walls of my base, and detonating as a second explosive, these would need to be destructible to help keep the balance right

    5. Sandbags for obvious uses, would deteriorate with excessive damage/bullet penetration

    6. Internal pillars/beams to help build floors the next level up without needing to use stud walls to hold them up

    7. Permanent fire pits will help when the temperature effects are developed (keeps players warm), also used for cooking/smelting metals

    8. Ladders because lets face it the current stairs are not polished and cause all sorts of nightmares when building around them

    9. Elevators to help get vehicles/players to the next floor, chance to

    10. Mounted Gun turrets primarily used as Anti-Air defences, use 6.5mm clips to prevent them becoming OP

    11. Grappling hook allows players to scale up and down walls with a 25% chance to break/become unhinged to help keep the balance, requires certain weight capacity to work?

    12. Remote controls for doors allows players to open and close doors from inside their vehicles, not needing to get in and out to let themselves in, this remote might be lootable and non-persistent on restart?

    13. LARGE Remote controlled HORIZONTAL roller doors allows helicopters to be stored under these doors, make them possibly 3x3 or larger, large enough for most choppers to fit and be opened while hovering.

    14. Clothes lines/Wall Hooks hang backpacks and clothes on them

    15. Lockable cabinets unlockable by base raiders with 30% chance of success. only 3 attempts, after 3rd attempt it is permanently locked until restart to balance it in favour of both attack vs defence

    16. Metal Floors/Concrete Slabs better for vehicles to drive over/be stored on without risking damage when driving up floor ramps etc

    17. FirstAid boxes used to heal players when another player is within 5m

    18. Faucet/Sink/Tap used to fill up empty jars with water

    19. Mounted rangefinders used to scout surroundings from a mounted position, could be adjustable in height to allow scouting over half walls whilst ducking, would need to be destroyable (but still quite tough)

    20. Pinboard or computer could be used to display a history of player activity like kills, death count, player last seen locations, current player count online, a NOTES board for group members to share information and store it (viewable to anyone who has access to it, so if you're raided enemy will gain intel into possible secondary base co-ordinates etc)

    21. Domed/Pitched roofs

    22. Seeds allows players to plant trees/plants/vegetation patches, I dont know if its possible but much like stamina is gained over time, the plants can produce more vegetation/grow the longer they last. Will die if not regularly watered and picked?

    23. Animal pens give players the ability to harvest their own food supply with vegetation and livestock (Chicken eggs, beef/meat from cows/goats)

    24. Remote controlled drones/cars used to scout/track movement

    25. Mounted Logos/Banners allow players to upload/design their own logos/banners to hang on the internal or external of their base

    26. Surveillance camera log per 24 hours I dont know how hard this would be to do but could be checked using the computer/Pin board to tell you who recently tried to unlock your vehicle, open your door or blew down your walls. Just a text log, but would be even sweeter if you could get video replay of the activity. I expect this would be very difficult to do but would be really fun for rivalries and PVP

Please feel free to comment/add/like or dislike the things ive mentioned but remember to always justify. With any luck the devs will get hold of this and use it for future development inspiration

Cring0 is right. If you go by that logic then ARMA EPOCH could be seen as a cross between WoW, Minecraft, Half-Life, Skyrim and Ghost Recon to name a few.

Nothing they have done so far has been revolutionary or stictly their own ideas, there is no such thing as an original idea, successful products/games/services are all stemmed from existing creations but built upon or specifically altered to suit a target market. EG: Instead of the nested building/helipad idea, a simple horizontal door thats big enough to fit a chopper would serve the same purpose just designed and functions differently. This is enough for them to call it their own. The copyright law itself in Australia is something like 25% difference required to class something as your own...

People will try and claim shit as their own all the time but reality is nothing is original. Do you think Apple were the first to create computers, phones or media devices? Fuck no. Apple just market well and design for specific target markets using existing technologies. Most of the time apple are the LAST to integrate technologies to their products doesn't take anything away from their success.

I should add that I actually don't like Apply products strictly because of iTunes... Ironically that is something that only Apply do/have

I am so sick of the rain in ARMA 3 EPOCH that I want to neck myself every time it rains, its a wonder I am still alive to write this. I cant remember the last time I had an hour long session of ARMA without it raining once. The weather is severely broken in my opinion, but not because its always sunny - because it rains FAR too often and more often than not far too heavily.

I would love for a more constant fog/doom and gloom atmosphere but please. no more rain.

I think the intention of Epoch is to give players the tools and functionality to build similar structures themselves with the freedom of custom designing them to suit the terrain/vantage point etc - While I agree we need way more variety of tools and buildables to accomplish these things I'd rather have the freedom to custom build than to just construct pre-existing towers etc...

In my head I see Epoch in a year or two's time being a cross between Ghost Recon and Mine Craft where players can enjoy combat simulation at a very high level of realism while enjoying the creative freedom to build a huge range of structures. With more buildables/materials/functionality I can see the Epoch building being amazing. With some creativity you can already build some awesome bases and that is with VERY limited functionality/buildables.

I think patience is key here. I am hoping that the next patch will see the introduction of more than just 1-2 new buildables but a whole lot of new things for us to go crazy with

I would just like a military structure prop set. Jersey barriers, the big stackable gravel filled blocks, two story watch towers, four story watch towers, the one man containerized housing units, the bigger containerized housing units, sandbags, concertina wire, fixed positions weapons on tripods, various forms of roads and concrete slab foundations, tents, cots, fridges, ranges/ovens, et cetera.

The modular construction system is nice and all but I'd way rather have more complete structures like I listed above. And it would be nice to have some more survival based mechanics incorporated into said structures.

    Hiya...
I'll second a few ideas that I think will help players (particularly the ones who spend too much time inside bases organising).
Lighting in bases : NVG inside is a bit....meh. Someone said proximity lighting. How about harvesting some solar panels, setting them up with electrical components and some salvaged metal and used/unused large energy packs for a device that can provide power in your base for a few lights.
Limit it to maybe 2-3 lights per device or scale able with the number of energy packs you add at the crafting stage.
You'll also need wire and globes...more loot and assets.

I like a nice gun rack...specifically for guns is a nice idea.

    Omg the stairs...

    Tow rope! Genius

    Map on the wall...persistent points.

GUI elements when in build mode. Perhaps some axis guide lines and highlight the snap edge.

    Cheers

    Great game...great mod...my wife hates you ;)

While the suggested method may not be the greatest, your response was by no means helpful in anyway.

@spib0x   Maybe a very rare document that lets you use it and various materials to craft a one use lockpick that's 50/50 chance of success.  Numbers to be tweaked for balance.

Templar, your body is made in a cloning vat. We are adding all sorts of technology at that stage. What you are talking about is another tool to gather the energy. I see the logic and is a good idea, it does add another building requirement which could be a good thing further along. Currently your clone body has the means to store the energy, as it does krypto. You have implants and the means to insert new implants, which the traders currently can do.

    34. Flying Fox/Zip Lines - Useful for quick escapes, could require a 1 minute timer/action to wind the grip back up to the starting point after each use?

    35. Sleeping Bags/Beds - Could be used to sleep in, player is taken to black screen until they press the interact button, upon waking up they have their stamina restored by xx% based off how long they spent in black screen. If they reach maximum stamina they might gain an extra 10% temporarily? Can also be used to effect players temperature and heal toxicity

    36. Vehicle Paint - Allows players to paint vehicles, changing that bright orange SUV to something more subtle... would also be nice to have camo-paint for both vehicles and buildables (mix green black and brown paint to make camo-paint)?

    37. Steering Wheel Lock - Used to lock vehicles/choppers from being driven/flown for longer than 30 minutes?

    38. Vending Machines - Spawned around the map in random locations each restart (much like rogue traders) with limited stock - insert krypto to receive a drink or food at random - chance to dispense something rare?

SPIB0X got a reaction from ZENITHOVMAN in [SUGGESTION] Toxic/Tear Gas
I think players should be able to loot rare toxic grenades which emit a poison gas that causes the player to take damage and possibly pass out/die. Perfect in a raid on a base or if you've pinned someone down inside a building that you can't get a good shot on them. Much like the green gas emitted from a downed Sapper.

I think players should also be able to loot a uncommon (but not super rare) tear gas grenade which emits a gas that blurs players vision who are effected by it, causing a similar sensation to when a Cultist is in range, very good for rushing in a stalemate/lockdown situation..

I don't imagine this would be a difficult thing to implement with some of the effects of this suggestion already being in game, they would just need to be tied to smoke grenades... Would be even cooler to have these type of grenades as launcher attachments

With any luck the devs will get hold of this and use it for future development inspiration

lol do I get royalties for suggesting this first if it gets implemented :P

On a serious note, I don't want circus ferris wheels randomly spawning on the battle field either because lets face it they have absolutely no place in EPOCH but hey the dev's thought it fit so whats wrong with hover boards which are actually a reflection of the time/setting and fit with the lore/backstory to the mod?

SPIB0X got a reaction from ZENITHOVMAN in Inventory / Build Circle Is Giving Me Headaches
I find the icons quite annoying but I can live (or die depending on my run of luck) with them. I would suggest one of three things.

    1. Have them only appear when in build modes (this seems most logical)
    2. Have an option to turn them on or off (giving players more options is always a good thing)
    3. Make them smaller and maybe a slightly different colour to differentiate with the loot/player trade icons. (make them more subtle)

I love the new trade icon that comes up when looking at a player, but more because it lets me see who it is that i'm looking at in my group where there is otherwise no real way to tell who is who... Name tags for group members is so handy.

All in all a big step forward but i think .4 will be amazing if the right things are prioritised. Three things I think should be seriously considered for .4 are:

    1. Better group management (coloured hexagons, name tags, distance from my location indicator etc...)
    2. More buildables like sandbags, windowed walls and improved staircases/ladders
    3. Bipods.
