I found them on several occasions and hoped they could be used to break down scrap cars into scrap metal or vehicle parts, as an extra source for these items. A bit like having a toolbox and and crowbar on arma2 Epoch mod where it would give vehicle parts when dismantled.

I have found two sledgehammers. I believe in the future they will be used to mine rocks. I have not got to trying to hit people or buildable objects yet. In Arma 2 Epoch, the sledge hammers could take down a cinder block wall in about 2000 hits, so maybe something similar will be in Arma 3 Epoch eventually.

Astromine reacted to ToejaM in Get in bed with first person! Here are some pointers.
I made this topic over on my forum for Arma 2 DayZ Epoch - I'm going to copy pasta it here but it is ENTIRELY relevant to first person in Arma 3. I want to help people get in bed with first person and I think there are some things that people just dont know to turn off or to tweak to make the best of it.. things you have in other games as standard slider settings. Anyway, check this out!

After talking to a few people, a few things have come to my mind that some of you may just not know or do with first person. These below are usually features in all games, some games like Arma don't have a visible slider and you have to edit the config, see below for an easy config edit.

    Headbob
As most of you are glued to third person you don't notice the headbob until you spend a few minutes in first person moving around inside of your base or through combat and the headbob can be nauseating. I turned mine off the very first day I played DayZ and I've never turned it back on until now.

To turn it off, Main Menu > Options > Game Options > Headbob Slider to change it. (Different in Arma 3)

Here is a video showing you default, full and off. This is me running a circuit around my base @ 90 FOV.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMJJIoKPCO4

When its on at all, its like running around in an earth quake.

    FOV - Field of Vision
I've always found that 90 is the optimum for me in any game, give or take a few depending on the game.. for others it tends to vary between 80-100 but anymore than 90 for me and I find it is too much like tunnel vision. Here are some examples below taken looking at the same spot, the window of the small blue van from my base.

Left Image: Not aiming down the sights, no zoom.
Right Image: Aiming down the sights, no zoom.

    Default FOV (Seems around 70) @ 1920x1080

    70 FOV @ 1920x1080

    90 FOV @ 1920x1080

    120 FOV @ 1920x1080

I think you can fill in the gaps between each one and find your optimum.

Note: Different FOVs may impact the aiming dots on weapons. Make sure you try out your weapons after changing your FOV and don't forget, you can still right click to zoom in! These are default "broad" views!

How do you change your FOV?
Download the attached file to this post which when loaded looks like this:

This file can be used for Arma 3, Arma 2 and DayZ Standalone. Link: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?156973-Utility-Arma-FOV-Changer

    Settings
The location of your profile is (example, change as necessary): C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\ArmA 2\YOURINGAMENAME.ArmA2OAProfile

Fill in your resolution and aspect ratio, if you don't know what aspect ratio you have, google "what aspect ratio is 1920x1080" or what ever your resolution is and google will tell you.

Lastly fill in the "Horizontal FOV" to your desired FOV and it will auto fill the vertical, then press "Change FOV". Make sure you are out of game when you do this or it will not take effect and it will do it with little to no effort.

If you are running an odd resolution it may not be supported by the program creator, which isn't me. If this is the case you'll have to do it the old fashioned way:
https://zombies.nu/community/threads/574/ or google another FOV Calculator guide!

    Mouse Smoothing
In every game I play, this is turned off.. its like skating your mouse across ice when you move around. You don't notice it so much in third person but you certainly see it in first person. A video isn't suitable here as its about personal feel and you have to experience it yourself but to change this go into game. Main Menu > Controls > Smoothing (on the right hand side, bottom slider) and have a play around.

    Finally
Any more things that improve the first person experience I will post here, I hope this is helpful to those of you who are on the bench or against first person for what ever reason.

Astromine reacted to VAL *M3RC* in Drone Sounds: Opinions needed
Gentlemen seeing the topic of discussion you are both engaged in forces me to chime in here - so pardon the interruption: Both can have valid points but I can tell you that what does matter is the quality of product you are using whether it be speakers or headsets.  And I have both.  I have an excellent speaker surround system with bass for music, movies and such.  And I will use it for racing games and sometimes BF4.  But to be honest with most of my games that I really want to hear every little sound - and I mean EVERY little sound - like footsteps, reloading of guns, and other characters making sounds of any type I use headsets.  Sounds simply sound the way they're supposed to with a good pair of headsets, they're not too loud nor are they too quiet if setup properly. Now like I said you have to have a good pair of headsets, I use the Razer Tiamat 7.1 which has True Surround Sound with a sound card that supports 7.1. My in-game sounds in ANY game are simply amazing no matter what I play and no matter how quiet or loud the sound is - also perfectly directional, like in real-life.  Either way it comes down to being a personal choice, but the fact of the matter is that the quality of your sound source does matter which can go both ways depending on what you're using.  Anyways...

Back on Topic:  I'm kinda undecided, I loved not knowing but at the same time I do like the 'modem' sound-thingy, its kinda cool, but I think I'm leaning to the new method though so I have to give it a +1

As Combo locks are not currently in the game i would avoid building a base due to people easily being able to access it and take gear.

    : Tipi Guide : V3
    To Craft Tipi Kit:
    Lumber Packs (x2)
    Scrap Pelt (x4)

    -------------------------
Note: These items can be found naturally or purchased from a trader.
(Scrap Pelts-2 Krypto) (Lumber Pack- 3 Krypto) Total Cost - 14 Krypto.
Note: Only Official Servers will save your gear after restart.
    found here - http://www.epochmod.com/servers.php
    -------------------------
    Finding Naturally:
Lumber Packs - Lumber packs can be acquired by chopping down trees.
To do this you will need to find a hatchet, these can be found in Rubbish Piles & Dustbins.
They are considered to be pretty rare so if you see one at a trader then buy it!.

Once you have your hatchet equip it in the secondary weapon slot. Walk up to a tree and
Left Click to strike the tree, this will place a wooden log on the ground. Each tree drops 4 logs.

To craft the Lumber packs required you will need 4 logs only. (1 tree)

Scrap Pelts - With the current bugged animals you can no longer collect scrap pelts from sheep/goats but don't worry you CAN still get them. With their cheap price in the shop like
the hatchet it will save you a lot of time trying to find them. buy any you can. But if you cant
find a trader to buy one of you can get them from sappers!. Sappers are the brown armless
creatures that will run at you and explode if they get to close. Kill these and they sometimes
drop Scrap pelts. They spawn in nearby when a player is killed. Listen for their groans.

    -------------------------
    Crafting The Tepee Kit:
Once you have your 4 Logs and 4 Scrap pelts you can craft the Tipi kit.

    1. Double Click the Logs. Find "Lumber Packs" on the menu, change quantity to 2. and Craft.
    2. Double Click the Lumber Packs and find "Tipi Kit" on the menu, click and Craft.
    3. Thats it you have a Tipi kit ready to place. keep it in your inventory until you're ready.

    -------------------------
    Finding a Suitable Location:
NOTE: There are many different areas where you could place your tipi but i will go through some of
my preferences on placement in a secure and enclosed area.
Secluded: This is an obvious one but i will go over it. the more secluded and further away from
any other players the better. this is going to be for storing your hard-earned gear you don't want
it being stolen as soon as you place any items in it. There is more advantages to isolated bases
if you have a car as you can quickly go back and forth rather than having to run a very long distance to get back to your stash.

Use your map to find any areas that aren't near major towns. or near traders as these will frequently be visit to by other players. Good areas include:
    - Northern Coast of Altis
    - North Western Corner (north of Kavala)
    - Southern Island (past Melanera bay)
    - Atsalis (if you have a boat)

Buildings: Buildings offer a lot of benefits for stashing your gear, they are basically a free set
of cover from all sides so that you don't get taken out. not that you should be anywhere where
that could happen but that's irrelevant. Secluded buildings in the middle of no-where are very
unlikely to be checked by players so placing your Tipi in one of these "middle-of-no-where"
buildings has the potential to work quite well. i.e Old Farmhouses. Small Homes etc..

Reeds: Reeds are pretty much perfect when it comes to hiding your Tipis, with no collision
detection and almost 100% thickness it is almost impossible to see Tipis from the outside, most
of these Reed patches have an inside area totally enclosed by the reeds making your virtually
invisible to ground units. Finding a secluded spot with reeds will make your base basically undetectable. Unlike the building the only issues are with choppers flying over being able to see down into the reeds so when placing a tipi here make sure to get a considerable amount of the Tipi pushed into the reeds so it doesn't get sighted easily from the air. but there's a very low chance
    of that situation occurring.

    -------------------------
Guide by DMstratz: Anything you think i've missed or would like to add and ill include it. thanks

cars are p. much easy; boats are harder tho; the only reliable one is the Niochory (spelling?) trader at the pier.
