I've been banned from a good handful of servers for dumb stuff.

Sometimes simply disagreeing with the admin has earned me a ban, which is up to that server owner of course because it's his server, but for him to share his banlist would be really stupid. Then you end up not only banning people but also having people need to repeal to multiple servers, and if the list isn't updated by the poster new admins could just keep coming along banning people who had already been cleared.

The only way this works is if the multiple servers are part of the same group, otherwise it'll be a disaster.

Can we kill this idea yet?

It's the cell size per pixel of your height map, it's a value you will enter later in TB.
For example 1024x1024px height + 10 cell size multiplies and will make 10.24km x 10.24km world. This means, one pixel will be taken from your height map to create 10 meters of grid. Back in L3DT you should simply work with 10.24km world to make things easier in this case.

Another example would be 5km world, as in 5000m. If you export it as 1024px height, to produce exact terrain your cell size should be 4.88 (5000/1024). However Arma does not like uneven values in cell data, this will result in broken satmaps upon creating 16px overlap. The only way to fix this is going up to even cell size - 5. So 5x1024px = 5102m (this value should be used in L3DT to avoid future problems). In your case with 6km that will be 5.85 cell size, again - uneven. Either make it 5.5 or 6 and multiply with 1024.

General rule is - the smaller value for cell data, the more polygons and better quality for smaller details, but at the cost of performance.

Point 5 decimals are fine, too.. so something like 1024px * 2.5 cell making 2560m world won't produce broken satmaps.

Finally, a 4096px satmap * 1 cell = 4096m world (1m per 1px), same as 1024px satmap * 4 cell = 4096m world (4m per 1px). Both same size, but first one will produce 4 times better quality at the cost of 4 times the performance of second one, because it will have 4 times more polygons covering the same area. So choose wisely on the type of terrain you build. If detail is not important (less mountains, more flat land), go with second one.

Then there's altitude, which is also important. In arma water level can not be adjusted, it's always 0. So if your application supports water, lets say 100m deep and your highest mountain is 400m, then you will need to "sink" your terrain in TB for it to work. That means terrain altitude will be min -100m and max +300m...

Hope this helps anyone else reading this. I know you never asked for this, but you'll thank me later when Terrain builder just like any other Arma dev tool will start showing its true colors.

In theory this is a good idea, mature admins, having rules that make sense, have a trained moderator team, the admins/moderators are active and not playing 24/7, no abuse of the administrator/moderator rights is happening, bans have comments, stating the reason for the ban, etc.

But the reality is somehow different and far away from this.

Too many hosters with 1-klick installation, allowing everyone and their dog to host a server these days.
Sharing a banlist with all these mostly clueless, sometimes immature acting and/or totally casual players (they are players NOT admins) will end up in a big desaster for many innocent player.

I don't like them. Every server I've played on they became the primary method of travel and completed negated the use of vehicles.

You popped a tire? Repack it.
Need to logoff? Pack it up.
Need to go somewhere? I've got a vehicle in my pocket.

As for adding a bicycle, go for it, but I'd rather see new unique vehicles like the ebike. Maybe something like a bank truck or similar.

Don't use skipintro with Epoch. We load things in it that prevent lagging when they load ingame.

Could we get a map section discussing arma 3 map creation and related? Released maps could be subforums.

I know some people here are working on new terrains and just getting into it myself it would be nice to have somewhere to discuss it other than Off Topic.

Due to a lot of people talking about map making I decided to open this and the Map Release section so those interested in map making can have a place to ask for help or provide help.

I know getting started can be daunting with BI tools. Hopefully this section can make it less scary.

This sub-forum is for map releases only.
You are welcome to start a thread if you are still working on your map.

    Titles to be used.

[WIP]: "Work in Progress" this means you are still working on your project.
[Release]: This means you are at at least version 1.0

This is not a sub-forum for anything general discussion. There is a separate forum for that found here.

    Short answer is no.
Weapon/vehicle/mag configs are overwritten by mods with empty values, essentially banning them. To unban without deleting affecting pbo, you'd have to rewrite configs again. Problem is, you'd need to do this from external @mod launched after @epoch (added after epoch in launch params) and that includes clients, too. Once game is launched, configs are compiled and can not be changed, mission file configs can not be used to recreate these kind of configs. Look up @rmod for more info how this works.
edit: just in case I got your question wrong - yes you can create new classes and link to existing models (and textures if selections are available), but no you can't do it server-side only, this still means making new @mod for clients.

never played much epoch for A2. Had epoch not released the files i prob would have never played it for A3 either. Soooo from my point of view the building seems... okay. I think it most likely can and will be better but so will the other 75% of the mod.

As far as A2. This is A3 now. Some of you A2 guys need to move past that. Your all stuck in the 80's with ur "sql databases" and "proper building"

Progress and change move you forward.

This doesn't work and it's been discussed in many topics. No one can ensure the accuracy of the bans or the reason for them.

Heres a question. Could we add a new weapon to the config with an addon if it points to existing models/mats/etc without it throwing an error for connecting clients?

The proper size of that map is 22582x22582px, which made a 1.4GB file before I resized it to the dimension's Zupa is using, map is still fully eligable at 8192x8192px, but comes in at a paltry 192mb :)

The method your using, you have a 160px overlap on every image (mapframe layer overlap x 10) and 4096 images to play with, trust me I tried it.
I even tried photoshop's automation of processes which maxed out my pc for a while and gave me a 10 mile wide panoramic instead of the result I was after lol :D

These overlaps and imagecounts vary for different maps depending on how the layers were generated in relation to the mapframe in Visitor/Terrain Builder.

I do understand and agree with some of your statement.
    However,

Look forward a bit when Epoch Mod is at lets say 0.7.5 and we have most of the crafting and tons more weapons and building pieces and well just more of everything! Well at that point there will be more of those pesky I/O's going on and well maybe just maybe Redis will then feel like the right fit for this game and MOD to you.

But right now I am happy to be on a DB mgr that stays running.
I will admit there was a bit of trouble in the beginning with it, but once you search and learn about it(especially the config file) you will understand the bigger picture and the benefits it will provide to server owners.

    Just my 2 cents.

Do you not remember the bugs associated with MySQL in A2 Epoch?
I remember getting on servers and needing to wait 2-3 minutes for a trader window to open, or for it to timeout and leave me unable to purchase that category until I relogged.
And I remember hopping in a vehicle before the server was able to process the sell request and getting sent to a forever black hell where I couldn't be teleported out of.
Then there were also the times where I bought a vehicle and the server didn't have enough time to save it to the database so it just blew up when I got in it. (because of no charID yet)

I much rather have a new exotic database than to have to use MySQL again.

We are still evaluating the situation as we feel this needs more thought. There is still a lot of confusion over what is and isn't Cosmetic items. We are not approving anyone to monetize our work at this time.
