Flosstradamus
What does this mean for dayzcommander ? I read that BI is able to fix the arma 3 since its on steam but as for dayz modded servers I am not too sure what might happen. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?175463-End-of-Gamespy&s=26619e9caa6dfeedbb30fce7289f27ce&p=2656964&viewfull=1#post2656964
Flosstradamus
You are correct. Gamespy is what compiles the server list for arma 2 and 3. When you load up a server and you "search" you will see the top right where it says "powered by gamespy"
Flosstradamus
Oh.. Well I think DayZ COmmander works with something else.. Not sure, I hope! It doesn't because it pulls the server information through gamespy to display on their program :\ Josh never made a dayzcommander work with Arma 3 since there is no dayz mods but I am not too sure if he will be able to update it to work with the new arma 2 server list. insertcoins
seriously? That would be the end of dayz for 80-90% of the servers if dayzcommander stops working
fr1nk
Well that was unexpected.

BetterDeadThanZed
My Arma 2: OA is not through Steam. I bought it from Greenman Gaming, so I wonder how I'm going to be affected. Arma 2 is through Steam. derpyhooves

Namindu
BI, has talked about working something out something with steam. But its not like Arma the only game. A lot of games use Gamespy as there multplayers menu system. But its not like Gamespy was the only one. A few months ago, GFWL(Games For Windows Live) closed down too. And left GTA a bit heart broken. All we needs is something to read what the server is reporting and the reporting ip can be changed in the main Config. Sandbird
Its not only that....that can be done easily...the problem is that Arma is broadcasting all the servers to gamespy..even if we do have the program/site ready...still every server owner would manually have to 'report' to the new site/program that 'hey i have a server running as well' hook me up in the list. derpyhooves

In theory you'll just need to update your reporting IP in the config.cfg: reportingIP = "arma2oapc.master.gamespy.com"; charlieteh

GameSpy stopped writing articles some time ago, it was only a matter of time before ZD shut down the rest of the operation.
happysan
Here's a story on Reddit which covers all the affected games. bigpak
So what are we going to do? Can you even connect through remote in arma 2 OA still if gamespy shuts down?
cen
Yea you can still connect directly to the server IP bigpak
bigpak
I'm still fairly worried but this eases the nerves a bit hearing from you about that. I really do appreciate it Cen. Thank you for easing my nerves about this. -Steven.
BetterDeadThanZed
DayZero has it's own launcher with it's own server browser. Not sure how they get their server info, but maybe that's something that the Epoch dev team can look into? Outlaw
Eegore
Im surprised not more people are concerned about this, or at least informed. If I am not mistaken once Gamespy goes down DayZ Commander wont have a search function right?
Namindu
Im surprised not more people are concerned about this, or at least informed. If I am not mistaken once Gamespy goes down DayZ Commander wont have a search function right? yup. Dayz commander using Gamespy to work correctly. Its not only that....that can be done easily...the problem is that Arma is broadcasting all the servers to gamespy..even if we do have the program/site ready...still every server owner would manually have to 'report' to the new site/program that 'hey i have a server running as well' hook me up in the list. Like i said, you can change the ip to report to in the master config file. reportingIP = "arma2oapc.master.gamespy.com"; That is the ip gamespy scan for to get the data, BI knows what data is sent thought that. So all you need to do is make the softwear that can read the data. Then host the server for example at www.Regencyhost.com, then you have the softwear listen on an ip: 192.22.7.123. Use an ip to mask the ip, www.ReportArma2ServersHere.com. And they done... And in the master config you change it too... reportingIP = "www.ReportArma2ServersHere.com";
Eegore
Do you think theres enough talent around here to offer Dotjosh a solution, or even create a substitute that applies across the board, not to only Epoch? Would really show how focused on the community the Epoch group is.

Would really show how focused on the community the Epoch group is. IMHO there is definitely enough talent to implement the technical solution but who will pay for the infrastructure? Someone has to pay for the servers/power/rack space/bandwidth/etc.
BetterDeadThanZed
You could always use the in-game browser. Does DayzCommander have an official forum?
fr1nk
They do but the last time I checked, there was hardly any activity there. Tons of issues and questions with no replies.
