Requested Base Building Parts

I have a few requests for new buildables.

 

Lockable ceiling hatch, preferably with a ladder or staircase attached.

Retractable ladder, maybe with a keypad on the ground level and the top level, if not, only accessible/retractable from the top of the ladder.

Retractable ramp, people size and maybe even vehicle size.

Openable windowed walls, both cinder and wooden.

Bigger glass windowed walls.

 

Much bigger pre-made base parts, entire floors, roofs, longer walls to help with reducing server object load. The ability to combine walls to make them longer, up to maybe 4 walls in length at a time, the same with flooring.

 

Thats it for now - but with the makeshift botch jobs people are doing, especially with windows its requiring many more base parts to provide the function of openable windows and create the ideal bases.

I like this idea. Maybe a new crafting option when you have two walls in your inventory "2x Long wall / Tall wall" It would swap out 2x walls with 1x larger model to replace it. I think this is similar to how the quarter/half/full flooring works now.

I know each larger item will take another class ID which is a concern, but this points more at needing to change the way keys are handled than anything else I think.

A lot of the parts from BB1.2 were big and clunky and easy to spot. The containers were good for stopping glitchers as they'd end up inside them heh.

 

Any fluff stuff was a waste of resources, sure it looked good but its more load on the server than needed

I'd kill for a Waterpump and Firebarrel. I built my base next to water and I am debating on extending a wall out over and into the water so I can refill my bottles safely. I have a couple small trees inside my base in case I need to replenish some firewood for campfires to boil water or cook meat. 

As I write this, some part of me wonders if I could have built out OVER the water... That would have made it hard to drive a vehicle into my walls. :)

Been there done that lol the floor of the lakes just aint flat enough. After the next update it should be good though

 

Yep... I started thinking about that. I have a decent setup now, but I would gladly demolish it to built a more secure base over water or on top of a cliff. :)

personaly I would like to see Castlegates (gates wich are coming from the top and also bridges, the ones going up and down (srry for my bad english skillzZz):D)

 

 

also bigger earth ramparts or even something like a moat but idk if this is basicly creatable without changing the entier ground ^^

Also wodden rampart made of whole trees would be cool ;)

 

 

But I personally would enjoy to have simple walls (wodden or cinderblocks) in 45° so you could build really houseroofs, ramps all that kind of stuff

I'll speed up the process of getting to & creating these if you, personally, draw me up concept sketches in ms paint. :3

In all seriousness though, we certainly intend on getting to these soon; there's just been so many other features and assets we've been focusing on.  Expanding the items as you describe is definitely the next major focus.

And a Water Source? I can stockpile wood for my heat source was well as for boiling my water, but water is the only thing keeping me from holing up with 200 beefsteaks and screaming, "Get off my lawn!" :)

I don't do drawing or creativity. Give me a problem and I'll give you the most logical solution for it, may require violence or fire or a combination of the both. I mean really, I am terrible with being creative unless it involves something competitive and preferably tactical.

 

If I drew you anything, even though you were joking. It would honestly, slow the process down. Even if you havent even started, it'd kill your ability to create.

 

Do you plan on making pre designed bases? Is this not something that you could potentially outsource to the community make to add lots of different varieties in. Then possibly do away with all the individual pieces or perhaps as far as modular goes, force a hard limit of 10 objects or 20 objects per area but then offer lots of large pre-made "rooms" that people could bolt together in the manner they put the walls together to form a base.

I really like the modular aspect but it does come down to rooms. If someone wants something specific, they could create it and submit it to your team to get it implemented, this would reduce work load for your team and you'd see a lot of ideas come in quickly. You wouldnt even need to vet the ideas 100% yourself, if you used a community voting system much like Steam greenlight it would weed out the terrible ideas and youd only have to deal with the popular ones.

 

If there were less pieces on the server, performance is obviously a big side affect but maintenance would be much easier and viable.

 

You could stipulate textures and the process in which its done.

even better than walls and doors... interior items all/or from the aichemical craft would be nice integrated with unique recipes, this comes with a recipe menu and a preview of the item  :)

(save on mission file. instead of basebuild pics)

Paint your own vehicle would be nice find paint to mix your own colours around the map and right click the tub maybe and menu pops up to customize your car or close to a service point. menu should have a draw pad to make your creation (Bonet, Roof, Left doors, Right doors. Wheels, bumper, licesceplate???/Tag???)

In terms of performance I would love to see the larger walls/combining option for snapped things, since they could be premade without that much work to do, vehicle coloring or any of this stuff isnt really needed I guess..

but well for serveradmins and players its getting pretty desyncy on a server that has many buildables placed...

 

I guess this idea would help:

 

If a buildable is snapped to another one it becomes one item

therefore you would need to create following buildables:

 

walls:

straight: 2x,3x,4x and maybe also 5x walls for wood and cinder (cinder combines when upgrading)

with ratations (snap pro version): wall-90°-wall, wall-45°-wall on the left and the right of the first wall (makes 4 models extra)

 

with these combinations we would reduce the serverobjects from a f.e. 5000+ to something like 1500

I just checked that in realtion to some bases on our server

 

this would increase the serverperformance especially on small server with little hardware or connection (in this terms it would give you and loading and performance boost of atleast 10% in my opinion just by comparing my server connectionstates now and when there were no bases)

 

Therefore we would need just a little bit of code and 8-12 more moddels (makes a extra filesize of maximum 100MB I guess..)

and that should be worth it alot

use build with vectors and your fine with that -.-'

maybe I dont want doors that open to the side or maybe I dont want to have to use build vectors? ... you cant even fit a MTVR thru the normal garages, they are just too small for a lot of vehicles.

also build vectors are afaik not part of the next patch. so yeah ... bigger garage doors. wider an higher.
