Kinda offtopic, but just had the sudden idea from this comment.

Would be awesome if your soiled level was beyond lets say 75, you would cause other people to cough around you (because of the smell). This could be used both as a motivation to lower soiled status when playing in teams and as a tool to spot hidden players nearby.

You, ofcourse wouldn't mind since you're already used to smelling like crap :D

If people can just group and lock loot indefinitely, I think that is a broken concept.

You see them complain because they're bad... As a lone wolf, i consistently win 3v1 and 5v1's.... Of course, i play on Hardcore Server, so people can't just sit behind a rock and watch you while they tell their friends where you are, because suppressing fire actually works and if you can't see them, they can't see you... So basically, 3rd person is just unfair in general and boring, while hardcore is a matter of actual tactics and wit to a larger degree...

1: Have something to offer a group (Skill / Time / Materials)
        - if you interact and whine in game like you have been doing in this thread your not going to get very far.
2: Interact on Forums, Teamspeak, Radio chat. ( if using radio, offer trades or assistance in game. Expect traps and don't ever say you are solo)

3: if your playing Lone-wolf you need to understand that you have to play very differently than a group of people.

-Its much more difficult to play aggressively in an encounter when you are outnumbered but not impossible.( and you don't always need to be aggressive to win)
-you need to take time know how many enemies and where they all are before you start shooting. where a group of 3+ can  usually just start shooting and figure it out as they go
    - it is much easier for you to move unseen Solo than it is for any group to move in the same space. groups are going to be shot at more often than a solo player
-you can carry more than one gun. usually 2 rifles and a pistol  are pretty easy to pull off... so USE THEM!
its very possible for you to make a group of people think you are more than one person. Fire one gun(Heavy sniper), then move position and/or swap weapons and fire the second gun(red tracers). swap back and fire the sniper again. Swap and run to a few different positions and you just might confuse them enough.. you don't need to be perfectly accurate with every shot, just make them think there is more than one enemy for long enough take eyes off of you while they try to spot the extra man or duck behind cover to avoid getting Sniped. you might even chase them off.

Lone wolf here, I play serious in HC and have a 'fun' char in normal.

Lone is all RP, be scared all the time lol, I learned my lessons. Finding gear and building stamina are things that I want to maintain, I do not under any circumstances want to die.

Sat I found a car, drove around carefully to a far far end of the map, saw another car. Heck, I drove BOTH cars 4.5KM to the nearest trader switching cars often and running back to the other. Saw a mil truck pulling out as I arrived, sat there and crap my pants.

But he/she was probably as scared as I and probably thought I had a buddy. He high tailed, I wiped my ass with a leaf and continued on.

These are the lone wolf experiences I love. You gear is ultimately more important and well hard earned.

There should be a fourth teleport that will randomly teleport you. That would really be awesome in my opinion.

Try hardcore servers, it's usually less PvP oriented as it's quite harder to see all surroundings, so you can bypass another player in 30m and none of you won't see each other. And more immersion makes people more cautious.

TheHermit reacted to ToejaM in Get in bed with first person! Here are some pointers.
I made this topic over on my forum for Arma 2 DayZ Epoch - I'm going to copy pasta it here but it is ENTIRELY relevant to first person in Arma 3. I want to help people get in bed with first person and I think there are some things that people just dont know to turn off or to tweak to make the best of it.. things you have in other games as standard slider settings. Anyway, check this out!

After talking to a few people, a few things have come to my mind that some of you may just not know or do with first person. These below are usually features in all games, some games like Arma don't have a visible slider and you have to edit the config, see below for an easy config edit.

    Headbob
As most of you are glued to third person you don't notice the headbob until you spend a few minutes in first person moving around inside of your base or through combat and the headbob can be nauseating. I turned mine off the very first day I played DayZ and I've never turned it back on until now.

To turn it off, Main Menu > Options > Game Options > Headbob Slider to change it. (Different in Arma 3)

Here is a video showing you default, full and off. This is me running a circuit around my base @ 90 FOV.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMJJIoKPCO4

When its on at all, its like running around in an earth quake.

    FOV - Field of Vision
I've always found that 90 is the optimum for me in any game, give or take a few depending on the game.. for others it tends to vary between 80-100 but anymore than 90 for me and I find it is too much like tunnel vision. Here are some examples below taken looking at the same spot, the window of the small blue van from my base.

Left Image: Not aiming down the sights, no zoom.
Right Image: Aiming down the sights, no zoom.

    Default FOV (Seems around 70) @ 1920x1080

    70 FOV @ 1920x1080

    90 FOV @ 1920x1080

    120 FOV @ 1920x1080

I think you can fill in the gaps between each one and find your optimum.

Note: Different FOVs may impact the aiming dots on weapons. Make sure you try out your weapons after changing your FOV and don't forget, you can still right click to zoom in! These are default "broad" views!

How do you change your FOV?
Download the attached file to this post which when loaded looks like this:

This file can be used for Arma 3, Arma 2 and DayZ Standalone. Link: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?156973-Utility-Arma-FOV-Changer

    Settings
The location of your profile is (example, change as necessary): C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\ArmA 2\YOURINGAMENAME.ArmA2OAProfile

Fill in your resolution and aspect ratio, if you don't know what aspect ratio you have, google "what aspect ratio is 1920x1080" or what ever your resolution is and google will tell you.

Lastly fill in the "Horizontal FOV" to your desired FOV and it will auto fill the vertical, then press "Change FOV". Make sure you are out of game when you do this or it will not take effect and it will do it with little to no effort.

If you are running an odd resolution it may not be supported by the program creator, which isn't me. If this is the case you'll have to do it the old fashioned way:
https://zombies.nu/community/threads/574/ or google another FOV Calculator guide!

    Mouse Smoothing
In every game I play, this is turned off.. its like skating your mouse across ice when you move around. You don't notice it so much in third person but you certainly see it in first person. A video isn't suitable here as its about personal feel and you have to experience it yourself but to change this go into game. Main Menu > Controls > Smoothing (on the right hand side, bottom slider) and have a play around.

    Finally
Any more things that improve the first person experience I will post here, I hope this is helpful to those of you who are on the bench or against first person for what ever reason.
