Simple answer Dafteris...the "EPOCH A3" Mod is developed under a special licence agreement with bohemia and the team takes part in the MakeArmaNotWar Contest. They create and distribute their mod as a Total Modification. So it is simply not allowed to use 3rd party addons in their mod.

When server files are released with the 0.5 Build then private hosters can import custom content on their servers as much as they want but at the moment that is the reason while they re only some custom made weapons for Epoch

But you realize this is only enough to build 2 cinder walls (I think 6 cinder and 2 mortar for a single wall)? That doesn't seem like enough for me.

Don't think it's rare, i found 3 of them in 15 minutes just looting buildings, so as for our experience - it's quite common now.

    From my point of view:

For a vehicle thats so rare.. it now holds NO asset to why its rare. Its even weaker than Transport Trucks. 1 7.62 shot to the engine makes engine red. Hitting a wall or a pole even slightly breaks both front tires. 50 rounds of a 6.5mm blows it up. I really see no difference between the Hunter and a Box Truck, except you can find Box Trucks everywhere.

I'd hope the devs would reply and see that its too weak now. It was fine before this patch because 100 rounds of a Zafir blew it up and you could've disabled the wheels pretty easily. Now its just horrible, 20-40 rounds of a Zafir blows it up. Not to mention a 9mm breaks the wheels in a couple of shots lol.

Anyways, the way it was before was fine, now it seems almost pointless and is basically not armored anymore.

Need proof? Get a Transport Truck like a Zamak or the other transport and get a Hunter. Shoot them with the same gun from the front, guaranteed the Hunter will blow up way quicker.

Try hardcore servers, it's usually less PvP oriented as it's quite harder to see all surroundings, so you can bypass another player in 30m and none of you won't see each other. And more immersion makes people more cautious.

    Good for you.
My experiences are to the contrary.
Enabling CBA and JSRS on an ARMA-server and comparing clientside performance resulted in between 5-10 less FPS, gradually dropping the longer and the more shots were fired (multiple sound effects).

JSRS2.2 is also 1.1GB (even larger than entire Epoch) naturally playing a whole bunch of much larger sound clips has an impact on performance, then add more spaghetti code and YES it will make an impact.

Agree. I want to be able to store a lot of base material before i start building and of course some other gear. Built 2 which got filled in no time with almost only rare stuff. You should not need to build more then 2-3 tipis considering their size and hard to hide.

You get pelts by Zappers to.

Edit: Don't think the servers will like everyone having 4-5 tipis each either.

Didn't see any changes to the health system in the 0.2 patch notes.

Solo players need a way to heal themselves to full health, especially considering the gun sway you receive with 0.25 damage.  I'm bumping this topic because I feel that it's a major oversight and deserves more attention from the devs.

Splin reacted to Tobias Solem in The weirdness of ARMA and why
Ever so often when you deal with ARMA, ARMA2 and now ARMA3 you encounter stuff that seem inexplicable, whether it is someone able to take a lot more damage than what SHOULD be possible, "things" seemingly behaving randomly and other "things" just not working at all "for no apparent reason".

As much as we'd love to beliveve that this game is new and fresh, it is in many ways still the same old game with some coats of fresh paint. At the heart of it all ARMA3 is a big revamp of ARMA2, which in turn was a revamp of ARMA, which was a revamp of the original Operation Flashpoint, and at the core of that, everything is built from the military simulator VBS.

There is code in ARMA3 that is severely dated, and while most of it has been polished since the original stuff, in essence we have to accept that this engine, while powerful comes with a lot of patchwork fixes built upon fixes.

For example, there is still in system, essentially an event queue, or back-end wise a script-queue of sorts, when you fire a bullet at someone, this gets treated and handled by the server in a queue, and normally this is handled in an instant. But if you add 80 players doing things, building, using scripts, shooting, blowing things up, that queue starts to stagger, and even time out. What this can result in, is that a bullet fired at a target, while visible as a "hit" on the client, never gets handled by the server, at all.

The more code or custom scripts you throw at ARMA, the more it has to process. This is also one of the big reasons why someone who makes a mod such as Epoch does not want official servers to be modified from that state. Trying to track issues is bad enough as it is, custom content just becomes a complete chore to deal with, and tracing the issues is not just frustrating, it is immensely time-consuming and fruitless.

Unfortunately Bohemia still has not made a big overhaul of ARMA3 binaries, client- or serverside. This means that your 8-core process will not really be handling the game efficiently. Sure, it has been improved so that you aren't stuck with the same issues you had with ARMA2 where getting 60fps consistently even on modern hardware sometimes could be problematic, but still - there are plenty of issues, and getting a good FPS in ARMA can still be a problem because of how patchy this game is.

This is something to really consider when you run into issues with Epoch, a lot of what you might think is an issue with the mod (fires not appearing, bullets not registering, doors not opening in time, etc. etc.) really is issues with the arma3server binary using multithreading like a newborn baby using a screwdriver. Yes it can grab a hold of it and "use" it to an extent, but not for its main purpose, and not effectively. And unfortunately the same thing goes for the client (the game you are playing).

So why am I writing this post? Well, it is in part directed towards all the new players of ARMA3, but also to the people who are veterans that might be wondering about things. I see from time to time people thinking stuff that are engine-related issues complain about "script kiddies" or "hackers". As an admin myself I observe a lot of players, and I've handled enough reports of cheating to know that, while this game at the core is EASY to break apart in terms of cheating; there isn't THAT much going on, at least not as much as some would make it seem.

Allow me to make an example, there was a firefight at ZNU02 (our server) when the server was full. I was spectating players and there was a lot of thing going on to say the least, some group had crashed a chopper, others were blowing up gas stations (because explosions are fun) and others had recently crashed a car, and there were firefights going on, with lots of sappers (because sappers love action as much as players do) and there were AI spawned because someone had killed a trader.

And then there was this firefight between two groups, clientside everything was running smooth, but the server was processing a lot of information (obviously), and this firefight had a lot of bullets flying, automatic fire from hipfired machineguns, some sniper fire... basically bullets flying in both directions. After a while bodies were falling, and the fight was over, but then the bitching started going on in local, and calling out for admins (me and my friend) to ban "the hackers".

Since I had been spectating the fight it was pretty obvious to me that neither of the groups were using any obvious cheats, what was obvious to me though was that there are issues with the engine. A .408 sniper bullet hit a target, center mass,  dead on, and it took zero damage. The same player ran a 50 meters extra and got hit by some more bullets and died. Worst cheat ever? No, the sniper bullet simply never got handled by the server. And this is a server with plenty of cores, an Intel Xeon processor, more RAM than you could ever use and SSD-drives, and all that jazz, not your run of the mill crap. The CPU usage consistently is at around 30% when maxed out, with half the RAM in use. However if you look at how the cores are used, apart from one core being almost maxed out, the others are barely utilized. Which essentially means that the game relies more on each core clock than the amount of cores. Which is counter-intuitive when it comes to server-side development where tasking new operations to different cores, and effectively multi-threading is a big part of what server hardware is good at.

So when you play this mod, in this engine, on ANY server, keep this in mind. I'm not saying you have to accept it, but in some cases you should not assign blame to the developers, the server, the admins, BattlEye, or script kiddies, you should assign it to Bohemia Interactive. And while they have made some wonderful software in many regards, it is still a leaking sieve and hugely sensitive to bad coding principles (while-loops, etc.) and with many limitations, many of which are responsible for your encounters with weirdness. That particular weirdness that the old dogs of this game have come to hate in spite of a love for the engine and the game in its open world strengths.

So please bear all this in mind the next time you run into glitches or issues. Try to reproduce bugs, because "random" occurrences might be the engine or the server having a hiccup.

I honestly disagree with this post. You say "I really love the break from zombies", yet there are exploding ZOMBIES (just because they label them sappers doesnt change what they essentially are, brain-dead AI that only mindlessly attack.)

You were half right, many people were excited when they heard Epoch was going to 'move away' from zombies and towards other antagonists. Many people were also extremely disappointed to find out that they instead opted to have silly suicidal exploding zombies, and lame UAVs that only the newest of players are challenged by.

Also, the 'Rock God' thing they are working on is a complete joke. This is not what people wanted, people wanted IMMERSIVE antagonists, like AI that defend a fort, ROAMING bears/wolfs that attack players (not just dogs). There are so many things they could do and all these EXPLODING zombies, silly grim reaper characters, and lack-luster AI spawning from extremely easy-to-kill and avoid UAVs is NOT the direction I feel like they were trying to convince people they were going in.

Also, the medical system and vehicle repair system is an absolute joke. What happened to needing to find specific repair parts for your car? What happened to blood bags, epipens to revive and bandages? Bleeding isn't even noticable anymore, and really is hardly a thing.

It is sad to see how simplified and dumbed down this version of Epoch is, I REALLY hope these things are just placeholders and they are going to realize their mistake.
    Remove the multitool completely
    Add specific vehicle repair parts
Add specific medical supplies (bandages/blood bags/antibiotics)
    Remove exploding zombies
    Remove grim reaper
    Scrap the 'Rock God' idea
Add interesting AI, like HUMANS that defend/roam/attack player bases, REAL animals!

    Seriously guys!!

Please ignore these people. Please do. I really love the break from zombies, and the "We take ourselves seriously, super realism" and the constant rehashing of other mods (DayZ for example.)

Please, let A3 epoch be your original creation, I've been playing it for ~8 hours now and have loved it way more than A2 epoch. We don't need another DayZ rehash, and you guys seem to have some great ideas. Don't change them because of a few people wanting A3 DayZ Epoch.

    2. There are 1,010,101,230,812,97,498.0001 varieties of the game because we all enjoy something new/different. If you don't like a particular server or how the admins run it.
    3. Perks were never about making money they were about keeping servers running and wives happy that you didn't waste rent money on a "GAME". And a way to give back to the people who helped support the community. YES, some people went full retard with it and gave god like powers for the low low price of 19$ a month,.... but most level headed admins/server hosts simply used it as a thank you for helping.

Can we please please please spend the next few years without these complaints? If you don't like something move on.... you don't have to stand and protest till everyone thinks like you do...

Actually I am currently out of the whole scripting, hosting and Epoch business at all and you guys would smile about threads like this, if you would take a step back from it. Its really not worth arguing about and its also not really an important topic at all. At some point BI put out a statement about whats allowed and what not. They probably had a reason for it, but we also learned that they really dont care about it or did anyone of you hear about any actions against any server owner? (Origins is still out there, right?)

So how about you all look at it as mature human beings and accept that hosting a server can be a business. Some people like to make money with it. Its not about getting rich. I mean look at CCG. Maca owns basically everthing that is left of the A2 Epoch community, but he will not make a living out of it and if he would, he is probably not driving a Ferrari.
On the other side, he will probably also never get the A3 Epoch files since the Devs dont agree with his actings. So I guess both sides win and the players just lose out of the endless war between these two factions. I mean, I doubt that any player really cares about it. Its not like they have to spent money or they will automatically lose against a player that donated. I guess player would love to see their beloved server running on a better hardware that was only affordable because of donation. I mean, lets face it. If the player gets something in return, its more likely he will donate.

Having said everything of that, I dont like perks. Not because I dont want that anyone gets money for the time he spend maintaining or because I think its not fair. I just think its spoils and alters the intended gameplay of this Mod. Most servers offer settings that already ruined most of the gameplay that attracted over 1million people at one point and perks these days are often just another step in the same wrong direction.

Just burry that topic. Respect the player and threat him as that. Both sides. Hosters: Dont put insane perks out for money that alter the gameplay for players who didnt spend money. Epoch-Devs: If the player wants to spend money, let him, if he doesnt want to play on a server with perks on it, he can decide and leave. I really dont get why we are talking about this stuff. It's like every single one of you thinks he is smarter than the player. Dont play mom.

Besides all of that: Please, dont be stupid. Nothing of this is pay2win. Its all part of a common F2P model. If you want more education in what is F2P and what is P2W, just ask. I can enlighten you.

    This times one million.

I have ZERO issues with epoch devs stating that they want rules followed, it's their right to make any rules they want for their mod.

The issue I have is that the rules seem to only apply to some and not all.

Pick a side, either no perks, or allow perks, but don't say no perks then have your first official servers offer up donator perks.

I don't care what toejam does with his servers, if he doesn't want to offer perks, that's awesome, but so far he's the only host (Dave is ok in my book as well) that has went along with those rules.

So either let others that have perks host servers, or remove BMRF and Zombies.nu from your "official" servers so it's fair.

But there ARE already unaware players on these unofficial servers - they will not dissapear, deal with it. And with only couple official servers exactly what you describe happens - less appropriate feedback, becase official servers will be less and less visible in the whole list of all others. And what's the point then to make OPEN alpha, if there are already all-time fulled servers?
