Sappers Nest Spawning on Players

That was good, is as intended, am looking at removing the spawn ability within a jammer radius, to be discussed, but leaving the ability to lure a sapper to anothers base. Someone in your team triggered a sapper to spawn and there is a very slim chance that will spawn a hive, then a random building is chosen so that was the perfect sapper wave :)

Not sure I'm a big fan of that design. It makes the possibility of getting blown up completely randomly, and losing your entire base and vehicles, simply due to RNG.

I'm all for sappers and sapper hives, but bearing in mind most servers will run pvp, this is just a little too much 'constant threat', especially since it essentially amounts to "at some point, you will be chosen at random to lose everything".

Sappers, nor sapper hives should ever spawn 'ON' a player, or within the jammer range in my opinion.

EDIT: Oh, and many people have said already, you don't need to do anything to spawn a sapper, they just appear at random.

It would make sense to remove the spawn ability from anyone within a jammer radius. That way, it would still be possible to have a sapper spawn elsewhere and then lure it to a base. However, given the current spawn rate for drones and sappers it's a constant matter of "I hear a sapper/drone outside" when working within a base, and then going outside to take care of it. Gets kind of annoying, especially since sappers can walk through walls and trap/kill you in your base if you don't go out and deal with them.

Maybe the video demonstrates that the spawn system is working as programatically intended, but perhaps not quite as conceptually intended?

The mod is completely amazing, by the way. The team is doing fantastic work.

Looking at base protection, spawning within jammer range has been removed, currently refining the sappers player tracking and am testing how they roam within the jammer range. Is a tricky balance. Am thinking that players within 50m of a jammer will be safe, as soon as you roam from that area one could pick up on you. This ends up with spawned sappers loitering around the jammer radius waiting for a target. This could be a base / group member moving out to loot or another player luring one into range.

Is this in any server for testing yet ?

And this is way your base location sucks, man :D if you build a base inside a building, make a building inside with floors and roof at least. But since it seems that you were just started building a base, well... tough luck :)

Building base walls inside of a building wouldn't have prevented what happened in the video. The sappers literally spawned in on top of us in the building; constructed inner walls would have had zero impact. Plus, sappers can just walk straight through built base walls/doors, so that wouldn't have provided any protection even if the sappers spawned outside and followed us in.

Updated. Please report your findings. My first thought when building last night was it's too quiet. Am strongly considering making the antagonists afraid of fire instead of the jammer.. keep them night fires burning to keep things away :)

and attract people looking for PVP? No thanks :D but good idea
