SPIB0X
I may be too old and ignorant to understand this but a friend of mine mentioned to me that playing ARMA on high-ping overseas servers has no detrimental effect on gameplay? Is this true? And how can it be so? I am used to only playing on AUS servers for a solid <50 ping to ensure my hits register, I don't lag and my connection is stable... Are we in a day and age where I can play ARMA on American servers and still sustain an enjoyable experience where my shots register, players don't teleport and I don't experience lag or disconnection issues? I have ADSL 2+ getting speedtest.net results of about 10mbps and upload of about 1-2mbps Can anybody shed some light? And to my Aussie comrades, don't worry I still prefer to play on AUS servers and wont be abandoning my post.
Darth_Rogue
Arma is pretty far removed from twitch shooters like CoD or BF where every millisecond matters and the player with the fastest reflexes usually wins. In Arma if your ping is under ~150-200 you should have a good gameplay experience. Once you get over that point though you can start having anomalies like vehicles and players warping and shots not registering as hits. Keep in mind too that it also can vary from server to server depending on how the admin has set up the basic.cfg bandwidth settings and such, regardless of your ping. bFe

DayZ Vet
More to do with bandwidth, if it goes below 100 you get yellow chain and desync!
SPIB0X
I get yellow chain and sometimes redchain on Aussie servers, but still doesn't seem to effect me all that much. I do notice sometimes when In a car it can get one big lag spike and I end up fast forwarding to a new location...
BetterDeadThanZed
I had the max ping on my server set to 350 until I was killed by a player that appeared to be directly in front of me, then he appeared further down the hall and shot me. Bad teleporting results from high ping players. I only set the limit to 250 because I have an admin from South America and sometimes his ping peaks over 225. Otherwise I'd limit it to 200. Darth_Rogue
Mine is set to 300. Anything over that and the game is pretty much unplayable for most folks. Your mileage may vary though. I have a few players that connect from Brazil and Germany who have a ping of around 125-150 and they never complain about latency.
raymix
Certain tasks like AI are sometimes offloaded to clients, which can impact the gameplay. Then there's scripts in mission pbo that are also located on clients, if the script has anything to do with network, it might eventually impact gameplay to some degree. So personally I'd avoid anyone with high ping if possible, but that's more like an opinion than technical problem.
