Trying to Boost FPS on 3770K: Advice/Confirmation?

Ingame at 1920x1080, I'm currently getting about 45fps when playing normally or around 30fps when doing local recording to video files via OBS Local Record and looking to boost my FPS.

Here's my system stats:

  • Core i7 3770K (OC to 4.1)
  • ASUS V77Pro Mobo
  • 32GB DDR1600 RAM
  • 256SSD HDD (Crucial M4)
  • 2TB 7200rpm (WD Black RE4) Game Drive (ARMA3 is currently installed here)
  • GTX 770 2GB
  • Corsair 750W PS
  • 30MB down/3MB up internet

Optimization steps:

  • Tweaked the in-game video settings for optimum quality
  • Am running the normal performance launch parameters for my cpu (no world, cpucount, hyperthreading, etc)
  • Restarting computer before gaming session
  • Running current video drivers
  • All temps are running within reasonable boundaries

Is there anything blatant that I'm missing, in terms of gaining an extra 5, 10, 15fps? I've ran ARMA 3 on both the SSD & the separate game drive and never really noticed a big difference. Or... is that (performance-wise) essentially status quo for this processor/hardware setup?

Sorry if this is the wrong section... wasn't sure where it should land... but general seemed ok to me.

If you are running a 3770K, I'm not sure why you aren't trying to take advantage of hyperthreading.

I'm on a 4770 and 760 and can get near 60fps when I'm not near advanced objects on the map.

When I'm near advanced objects it feels more like a graphics issue than a CPU issue though.

Use Shadowplay. It comes standard with Nvidia cards GTX 600 and above have the feature to record or stream. Drop your object distance to just above 1600 as that is the current draw distance with most multiplayer mods.

Don't watch youtube/twitch/ or any video while playing. Turn off anything that is bound to start scanning your PC at any given time. Fullscreen will gain you a few fps more than windowed or windowed borderless.

I am taking advantage of hyperthreading, though... I turned it on via the hyperthreading launch parameter. Is there a better way I should be doing it?

I've tried using Shadowplay before and just wasn't impressed with the quality. Maybe it's a nitpicky thing... but I'm not above checking back into it if they've changed things... it's been a bit since I've tried using it again. I've played with the render distance settings before but never saw any change in the FPS... but once again, I'm not above checking it out again.

Don't watch youtube/etc? Check. No scanning processes. Fullscreen? Check.

So overall... with my configuration, am I understanding that you guys think that I should be getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 60fps live, 45fps while recording as opposed to 45/30?

I have heard that OCing your RAM can also help, especially in Arma.

I'll look into that. Thanks!

Here's my launch parameters:

-exThreads=7 -cpuCount=4 -high -skipIntro -noPause -nosplash

I can share my in-game settings too if you want.

4770k thread/cpucount-wise is identical to 3770k, right? I'd be curious to see how much overhead that leaves for OBS to do local recording processes/recording/processing.

And if you wouldn't mind sharing your in-game settings, I'd love to copy that and see what I can pull on my box for comparison's sake.

Hay,

I have a 2600k clocked to 4.6Ghz (water) and have been using an AMD LCS 6970 Crossfire for ages with Dxtory using 1080p 30fps recording with 4 Audio streams. I have OS on one SSD, Games on another SSD and recording drive on 2x2TB raid0 disk for speed and size.

I have been getting a solid 30Fps while recording and between 50-90FPS in game. Only really thing i have is the -enableHT and disable the Anit Aliasing everything else is on high

I just upgraded to a single EVGA GTX980 Hydro and have the same settings and get between 65-130fps in game now..... Played with Shadow play as will with 30fps and 60fps recording and not much change to my in game performance while on however not having the native ability todo more Audio channels I was mixing Dxtory for Audio and Shadow for Video

HOWEVER. I did just have to RMA the 980 as its just broke so back to single 6970 for now

Your 3770K should easily clock past 4.1Ghz

i cannot say much about OBS as never used it but Dxtory in my personal opinion is the best for local recordings.  Shadow play I hope once it does more audio channels will be my go to.

Here is a couple of YouTube on shadow play on 30fps and 60fps. not sure I can tell the diff ! lol. Make sure to check you using 1080p 60 :-)
