How do I set up a local A3 Epoch server?

I've copied my cliënt files to my E drive, added+configured the Epoch server files and used TADST to start up my server but then Steam says I'm ingame and it refuses to let me start Arma 3 ...

 

What am I doing wrong? And is there something I can do to work around it?

I used that guide to get where I am at the moment, though it wouldn't let me start Arma 3; but I solved it now.

I start up the client first and afterwards the server ... it works for now but it's not optimal ..

Quit steam. Run server.

 

Start steam, start client.

I sometimes get an issue wherein steam blocks startup of Arma3. Thje workaround I have found is to I start Arma from the copy of arma3.exe I have in Arma3Server. I keep thinking I should write a bat file with startup parameters in it (nospalsh etc).

I created a shortcut for Arma3 in my Arma3Server folder then entered the following in the command line

 

E:\Arma3Server\Arma3.exe -connect=127.0.0.1  -port=2302 -nosplash -skipIntro -world=altis

 

For me anyway, Arma 3 loads and connects to the server without trouble. Change -port=2302 and -world=altis to match whatever your server parameters.
