Strange Error Out Of the Blue.

ElDubya

Question

Hi all,

Firstly, I haven't touched anything serverside for days and tonight after a restart players are unable to connect and get this message :

'This server is running an incorrect version of the server side application. You cannot play on this server. If you are the server admin please contact DayZ Epoch staff.'

I did Google the error but was met with stuff from when Dayz went from Gamespy to Steam and other stuff like that. One did mention a corrupt character database so I emptied that but it made no difference. Server.RPT is spammed to death with this also :

21:24:01   Error Undefined variable in expression: _resultarray

Anyone got any ideas? Someone else mentioned hiveext.dll, but that hasn't moved since day one of the server.

I have since read that it might be because someone logged out with gear in their "overflow" inventory and as such corrupted their character. I have wiped everything from character_data and player_data, restarted the server yet the problem still persists.

Ok, so from everything I have read in the last .... oh, say 5 hours, this points to something screwy in the database. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for finding database errors? Because to be honest, I wouldn't have a clue what I am supposed to be looking for.

I have :

Deleted the last 5 updated items in the object_data table

Deleted all character_data

Deleted all player_data

Obviously there is a limit to how much information the inventory section of the object_data table can hold, what is that? Is there a way to count characters in the inventory section of the object_data table?

I think it is a database error of some sort, as the information above seems to point to? I have gone through and deleted the inventory out of safes, vehicles, sheds, etc that were altered during the session just before the restart where this error started happening, and it's still the same. Can't get in at all. Should I delete everything that was altered (updated) during the last session out of the database as well, not just the inventory?

I have downloaded a copy of the server files and a copy of the database from my server and loaded them onto my test pc. They are both fine. The game runs with no errors at all. So does that mean that there is a connection issue between the game server and it's database and that the issue lies with my server host?

Surely someone else has struck this error before and could shed some light on what is going on?

Reply from my server host after they fixed the issue. I hope this information helps people who are also experiencing this.

The issue was with MS Visual C++. Even though the version used by Epoch was not touched, another version was installed on the box and for whatever reason, this appears to have caused an issue for your Epoch server.
