Was wondering if adding Housing is something that's possible at all? i.e. like what they have in that other mod, Origins. Bungle Posted May 24, 2013 Report Share Posted May 24, 2013 I liked the housing in Origins, very well designed. However I also like the deployment and crafting system in Epoch. Place-able lockable workshops i think is the key here, with Codelocks like the Safes are soon to deploy with allowing for shared/group access. Or one of these puppies! I think these Barracks would be a great starting point. Always loved them and they don't spawn zombies/loot naturally as objects in Dayz I am pretty sure. From there add a storage element attached and a lock to the door and wallah. Perhaps another craft able project. Not sure if you were looking at a similar path as Origins with Hero and Bandit Buildings. Perhaps the Green for Hero Buildings and the Brown for Bandits. There is no question as you build some of the items will shift on server restart. You just need to double up your walls to stop this .. Everytime i try to glitch into my base.. All that happens is i break my legs and get stuck between two walls. Bungle Am working on getting this setup for Epoch. Once i get it working well your more then welcome to give it a try.. huehue Posted June 4, 2013 Report Share Posted June 4, 2013 there's more ways but from what I can remember right now: Logout with a chopper on top of the base, when you login you are inside (if the base has a roof) Park a car near the wall, make it go inside the wall a little bit, when you get out of the vehicle you can go through the walls. If there's more them a single wall it's still possible as long as they don't have huge gaps between them and you don't move sideways Place a wirefence in the opposite direction of the wall, leave a small gap between the wall and the fence. Combat roll on top of that and you're inside. Like this: http://i.imgur.com/WWM9NrL.jpg Build a terminal (the one you type the password) near the base you want to go in, there's usually a 300m block but that's nothing with a vehicle, type the password and once you're authenticated you can run to the base and open the terminal. Just need to be fast to avoid the 15~30 seconds session timeout. Build multiple gates (doors) inside the wall or near the base door, sometimes when the owner open it, it will glitch and he can't close the gate anymore. Epoch is an amazing mod, I'm just really not a fan of the limitations of and how easy it is to destroy the currently constructed items. I've looked around a bit, and Base Building 1.2 seems to be the only other script for base building, and there don't seem to be any "player housing" scripts like you would see in an MMO (specifically: customization with a standard set of starting points, as little military theme as possible, ability to lock oneself inside the structure and be safe unless shot through windows, etc). At the moment they are too busy taking under the table income from their 2-3 "providers". I think the epoch team will come up with something just as good even better in time as they will have the full support and feedback of the community at large. All we can do now is wait and enjoy what they have brought us so far. If only the other Mod "Owners" were are open as the Epoch Team.. we would have a viable standalone already and not thousands of empty servers.. MadMartyr Posted June 6, 2013 Report Share Posted June 6, 2013 I've played Origins, and even setup an Origins server using the files that were provided in one of the threads on OpenDayZ. There's just so much about Origins that I DON'T like, and the housing being the only obvious plus that I can see. The issue I really have with cracking open Origins and extracting the housing code is that I would want it in my Epoch server. I love everything else about Epoch, and I don't want to fork the project and create a new derivative work from what these guys have put so much time and effort in to. I've read quite a lot about the Origins guys, and I think it's fair to say that everything in their "all-new custom awesome mod ohemgee" was taken from the community they essentially shun now, whether that be in the form of feedback and ideas, or directly by using scripts developed by the community. At any rate, back on topic, if I can get some instructions for 1.0.1.1 and Base Building since some of you have it working, that'd make it easier. Bungle Posted June 6, 2013 Report Share Posted June 6, 2013 I think Dobrowney is working on a customized and refined version of the BB 1.2 more suited to Dayz and Epoch (Less Military, more Survivor Based) You may wish to have a chat MadMatyr and see if there is anything you can offer to assist with this. I am hoping that soon these additions can be adopted by the Mod itself and added to the default packages if supported by the overall public and Development team.
