Is it possible to use arma 1.63 with old playerID?

Hi, 

 

Just wondering if it's at all possible to run Epoch 1.0.4.2  on A2OA 1.63

But continue using the old playerID instead of SteamID

 

I saw this on the epoch 1.0.5.2 changelog 

 

 

 

[NEW] Use DayZ_UseSteamID = false; in your init.sqf to use the old PlayerUID, instead of SteamID @icomrade

 

112555 has been causing us some headaches, just not as much of a headache as the change to steamID would from all the complaints of lost gear and character data. 

I would like to update to the new arma version, but this is holding me back. 

 

What would be required to add this variable into an older version of epoch? if it's even possible?

in addition to this.

after my post

 

i grabbed a few of the files out of the github.

 

and changed my test server.pbo 

 

tradeobject, swapobject, playersetup, playerlogin, onplayerdisconnect from the githubs compile folder

also updated server_functions  

updated the client init.sqf

 

everything loads up on 1.63, but still uses the steamID

 

was worth a shot i suppose.

With Epoch 1.0.5.2, you will be required to run the latest stable Arma 2 OA build, which is i 1.63.125548. This is the same version a player gets if he allows Steam to update his Arma 2 OA. The change log for that version says this:

 

[NOTE] It's recommend to convert to the new SteamID system if possible, new servers should not use DayZ_UseSteamID = false;

 

So, you could continue to use the old UID, but it's not recommended.

yeah, but player id ties in to so many things on our servers. 

it would be a logistical nightmare to switch to steamid. unless we did a full db wipe and started fresh

 

i am currently using 1.63.112555, there is just a couple of annoying bugs that come with it.

 

so i'd like to go to 125548 but keep playerids the same 

 

so before the release of 1.0.5.2 i was playing around seeing if i could make 1.0.4.2 work with 1.63.125548 and retain the old playerid. tried a couple of different things, didnt have any success. 

I'm more than happy to wait for 1.0.5.2

If you use that variable mentioned, you will keep the old UID's and believe me, this topic has already been discussed. It's a pain in the ass with the new Steam ID. All my players had to start as new players and make their way back to their bases. I offered to replace plot poles for players so they can continue to buid.

 

I don't know what bad things can happen by keeping the old UID, but it's not recommended per the devs.
