You have a problem with the boxes in the first 2 links...

 

The specs are mostly fine from the 8GB ram upwards boxes, the limiting factor with those are the data transfer.

(You have to factor in running the OS + RDP, MySQL Server, BEC, etc into the equation, so I'd say 8GB ram minimum, I've never seen a A2 server use more than 2GB RAM (2x A2 Servers = 4GB RAM))

 

 

2-3TB of bandwidth/data transfer is extremely low for a game server in my opinion. 

 

Especially an Epoch server as you have the game traffic, as well as mission file downloads EVERY time you make a change to it, which can soon mount up data transfer on a busy server.

 

You also have to factor in the monthly cost for a windows licence (€15-20pcm), so that bumps up the cost a little aswell.

 

 

 

The third link I have no clue as I've never used a VPS :D

 

They do give you unlimited bandwidth/data transfer though..

 

 

I'd do a little more research if I were you and throw a couple of enquiries to the hosts in your OP and see what they can come up with for you.

what would be a good data transfer cap? and thankyou for your reply. my mission file shouldnt change that much iv already scripted my mission pbo and server pbo ready for launch all i need now is a box. i just cant seem to find one that will run a server. i mean it can just be 1 server for now that doesnt worry me just need to know all the specs i should be aiming for ;)

i run a vps and 2 servers on 3 cores , and have no issue , could use a bit more ram(have 3 gigs) but my other server is not really ever busy so it works out just fine , no lag at all and its alot cheaper then a dedi , cant afford one , i dont get much donations because i dont have any pay to play perks =P

 

and my transfrer cap is like 3000

 

and i only do around 300 gigs a month

 

 

My highest recommendation is to not build your own server, its alot of work and if you have no community to start with you might as well give up now  there are so many servers out there that no one will ever jump on an empty server , i would recommend you join up with another admin , as for me im the only admin on my server and i could sure use some help

We have a pretty big community at the moment. we run 2 epoch servers and 2 overpoch servers in america im just looking to expand into my country due to alot of the australians and freinds in our community wanting to have one. Also can someone give me a recommendation on http://www.exigent.com.au/servers/dedicated-servers.php what boxes i shouuld be looking at from them. Also thankyou TNT for your infomation on the vpn. like the full specs and how they compare to http://www.zellion.com.au/gamevps.html and http://www.exigent.com.au/servers/virtual-servers.php#page=vps. also how much people usually play on your server. and what has been the max and any lag issues ect? vds/spn looks like the way i want to go at the moment unless someone can give me a bit more info on the box ill need

I run 2 x overpoch servers using dedicated gaming. we use dg box 2 with windows server 2008. 

server 1 gets pretty full every night, and server 2 usually has between 10-20 people at most. 

 

server fps stays around 5-6 at full capacity (42 players) and we run a lot of mods, along with both wicked ai and dzms missions. 

so we're really happy with them. 

 

We started off on a VPS with dedicated gaming, but the slow clock speed meant for low server fps (1-2) once we got above 30 players, and when it hit 40. the server process shat itself in a bad way.

DG have 2ghz clock speeds on their vps. so avoid that if you can. 

 

allow 2gb ram per server exe process. but of course you need more to handle the mysql process, bec, etc. 6-8gb should be fine. 

the clock speed is the most important part, keep it over 3ghz or you'll have a bad time. and horrible server fps. 

 

also make sure you create a batch file to set core affinity for each process.
