Pay to Win server

I thought this was an infraction on licensing but there are quite a number of servers that advertise if you pay me British sterling, USD, euro, etc you can have: vehicles, bases, goodies. . .

 

I wrote to Bohemia about it but I think they really dont want to spend the time to following up on it?

 

Any ideas on where to write or it is just a useless point to even try?

Pointless reporting, not gonna accomplish much. Yes some people really take the donation crap too far, running servers simply for personal gain, but if you don't like it best to just avoid the server. Now if you're looking for a server with absolutely no pay2win elements, you can give mine a try, currently have 1 active clan with 3 players and 3 admins as well. We get the odd players here and there but they leave relatively fast either because of the challenge (I'm sticking to trying to keep the game survival and not turn it into a PvP battlefield) or low player count when they get on. Other then that, there are numerous fair servers listed in the server listing section on this forum.

We arent the kind of server that does everything for you. The only scripts we have in right now is the ability to deploy a Bicycle, Motorbike or Mozzie, and only if you have the required items. We dont have Auto-Refuel and we dont have God Mode at traders. Also, bases are destructible because nothing should be safe in DayZ.  It's a very fast server simply because it's not filled up with a load of junk scripts.

 

We have a minimal, but strict, ruleset. We dont allow building to restrict access to high value loot areas, we dont allow people to camp traders however Ad-Hoc engagement is fine and we dont allow people to take the piss. Apart from that it's pretty much game on. Admins are generally active but IRL comes first. If there's no admins online then a quick post on the forum will generally be answered within 24 hours.

 

Also; donating to keep the server running will get you absolutely nothing. We dont reward donators with items, just love.

PLayers make servers -> COST MONEY -> PLayers playing on that server donate -> THEY can continue playing on it. -> NO DONATIONS: NO SERVER.

Most server owners NEED donations NOT FOR THEMSELVES, FOR THEIR SERVER. If we report all servers having a 'DOnator Shop' there will be no servers anymore.

Don't be a dick and just change server. If you don't like the idea of donations in sort of Paytowin, i can understand. But don't whine about it, just change server.

 

2. BIS has MANY things to do and a little person signaling a little server; they don't care. Don't loose your time.

His one post didnt reek of schmegma imo. He's simply asking a question.

Hosts that would get offended by that question should probably avoid pointing themselves out since it would be a sign that the offended person is not complying with BI's policies either.

Players that got offended by that question probably got scammed into buying items in exchange for real money. Sorry if that's the case.

Either way, just looks bad to get offended by the OP for wanting to help clean up the gaming industry in a cruel attempt to report people selling other people's property.

I doubt you would call a neighbour a dick for calling the cops if they saw a stranger selling your stuff outside your home... so if this guy wants to report someone abusing then they do have choices.

I disagree, that most Server owners "need" donations. Where do you get your informations from?

Since about 1 year i have an Dayz Origins server and since 1 month an Epoch Server. Comparing these servers, The Epoch Server is very cheap with about 20 € a month. So dont tell me, an owner of an epoch Server "needs" the money.

 

The point is, that Just_R ist talking about server-owners, who seem to use their Server for making some profit. And although everyone is free to join every Server he wants to, the question of Just_R is entitled.

If you refer to my Sig then pay to win servers are allowed so long as the content can be accessed by everyone. A user in my other thread explained it perfectly by stating Time = Money.

As I said; 'THIS IS MY OPINION." I understand you fully about facts; but as 14-jears old player/ex-owner I had to stop my servers because of my age and not much money. I could not ocntinuate my server because I didn't accept donations; so you have ot understand that too.

 

 

Yes, you're absolutely right; but, consider you love playing on a server BUT you come to hear there is Pay-to-win; would you go to BIS and say it? + What I think, is that your example is not what I meant. I would rahter say: you rob someone and your friend knows it. Would you like him to go to the police and signal you? Mh.

To all other 'questions' I'd rather say, I'm not aggressive, but as ex-owner who could've survive the server hosting, I'd say: you know that Vilayer, VertHosting etc.. They sell/use BIS products too ;-)

in that case I wouldnt rat my friends since we're friends, just saying if a stranger ratted them out I wouldn't stick around defending my friend since they'd probably suspect me too.

I believe if one player is paying the bill for a server they should have the funds to make the server part of their own budget without breaking the bank. If a host can't do that alone then they can ask friends that use the server to contribute... point is, donations should go towards improving the server, not keeping it alive.

Overall, I really think we've lost track of the term "donate". My priorities for donating go something like... Donate to poor people without capabilities or food etc, then to needy children (not greedy), then work on donating to the community i live in, then donate to any other worthy charities, then maybe donate to the host of my favorite server since I use it alot and in my heart I know someone is paying.

Even though donating to just about anything is trendy doesn't mean we should all start paying people for products then claiming it's a donation. There is no exchange to donating. One party walks away with assets from another party that walks away empty handed, yet very satisfied.

Go ask how much MGT has to spend on the cost of running his server. I bet it's far more than $20. probably in the excess of $200 a month maybe.

Just_R - I'm not sure where you would be best to go to for reporting something like that, both BI and the Dayz Epoch developers would not be a bad idea though (while you are notifying them, you can simply ask them if they would like you to report to them and if not - who should you report to instead, if at all).  Whether or not it makes any difference, reporting is better than doing nothing at all if you are trying to ensure the game isn't cheapened by server owners.

 

To those stating it is fine as long as no one is restricted content because of pay-to-win:

 

As soon as you are providing something for money, it is no longer a donation; you are instead selling game items as micro-transactions.  Pay-to-win on your server is selling in-game items which you did not create and do not own, and therefore are not entitled to profit from, whether you are offering a service or not.  If you want to get help with hosting a service because you cannot afford to host it, you then ask for donations with nothing in return as this is what a donation is.

 

While I agree with the statement "if you don't like it, don't play the server", I think he and others find it demotivating to run servers for people out of their own spare time while others profit from it.  Not because they are jealous that they aren't making money from doing the same thing but because commercialising your server (illegally or not) cheapens the game and adding pay-to-win is similar to introducing cheats into the game as people have a way of obtaining items without playing the game as it was intended to be played.

Anyone that says they only do this to cover the costs of running a server is full of ****, they use that as an excuse to feel like it is legitimate while they really want to make it a paid job as they don't see why they should spend their time offering a service for free, even though they chose to run a service which is only allowed to be run as not-for-profit.

 

If you genuinely like and wish to support DayZ, the DayZ Epoch mod and its community - avoid interfering with the game's balance and avoid devaluing the experience players receive by adding premium cheats for people to skip playing so that you can pocket some cash while paying for your server.
