  1. It's easy to see where SkyDogs and others are coming from, when it comes to the reasoning behind wanting indestructible buildings. Everyone lives a different life, and the amount of time we're able to invest into gaming varies. If a person plays say for 4 hours a day and eventually builds a base, there's a 20 hour window each day that the base is vulnerable with no chance for the person to react. This can be countered by grouping up with others that play longer / different time zones, but there's still going to be large time gaps, days people are gone, etc. Are indestructible buildings and materials the answer? No, but there should really be a focus on balance between how much time it takes to build a base and maintaining it, verse the amount of effort needed to destroy or raid a base. Of course it's still in alpha, so things are bound to be adjusted/change/improve and when server files are released this will open up more choices for players.

  2. Hi everyone,

Just had a question about the grouping system in A3 Epoch. Was wondering how you actually setup a group / invite others? I had tried all sorts last night with no luck. Cheers and thanks in advance.

  3. Yeah I am not sure how the loot works as well because at night I found loads of food/ water and now at day nothing in whole Balota / apartments.  The Thirst/ Hungry messages are quite annoying to be honest. You spawn in, run 5 meters, "I am feeling hungry". Sigh

Looks like they already have a patch coming in that limits those messages, and adds a placeholder for the visual aids. Also seems to be some type of fix to help fend off the unconscious happening so quickly. So they are moving right along on smashing those main issues.

  4. It's a bit rough around the edges, but it definitely has potential. I think with the alpha finally out, that has to be a major relief there at the office. Hopefully because of that and with the majority of people distracted now with the alpha, they can churn out some nice updates, smooth out some of the more annoying bugs, and push forward steadily. I didn't run into any real serious bugs beyond the unconscious one. I made zero progress over a 8 hour session because I kept randomly going unconscious. Must have been 10+ times, but still looked beyond those. Much fun to be had.

  5. The core group I run with, had a blast. Sure we had some odd and annoying bugs especially the unconscious one - overall experience was very pleasing. There's many things that need improvements especially the notifications about hunger/blood/drink etc, but I was surprised how well it actually went. The lower amount of loot in my opinion is exceptionally nice. Forces people to really scavenge harder than normal for that extra soda or can of food. Now that the alpha is out, it'll be a huge relief on the devs.. that was a major burden with the community on the edge at each word or image provided. Now they can properly focus on the game and content.

  6. I found myself growing bored over the most recent Beta Weekend and I and my friend logged out of ESO and into Epoch. We are both huge ElderScrolls fans and have enjoyed the games since way back when but we disliked ESO. It didn't distinguish itself from any other MMOs out there in any significant way yet.

I had quite a bit of fun, but then again we're suppose to be testing/providing feedback. Team I roll with we keep a log of what we like/dislike/bugs/issues and send that during the feedback inquires at the end. It'll be a lot different once the full content is shoved out. I still played Epoch tho as well.

  7. Tried Breaking Point over the last few days, and the performance is awful. Have a decent rig, and still am forced to turn everything off or down to bare minimum. Will be interesting to see if they can squeeze more performance out of it. Atlas is just massive, and with all the buildings being enter-able and with loot plus zombies, the amount of info in the database has to be overflowing. Desync is a large issue as well.

I'd like to see the devs do something similar with Epoch in ARMA3, but at the same time - go with a different approach to the experience.

  8. The problem anymore is that the developers have their vision and direction for Epoch, and then private server owners take that vision and manipulate it into their own vision. With 3000 or more different servers running, there's no way to please everyone. I understand that a toggle option for features being removed or changed would be ideal, and if it's an easier thing to do then that might be best so everyone can customize changes to their needs. If those changes require far more time, then I can see why it's not worth it - as this is a mod being developed in spare time.

Just last night I was on OrangeSherbert's live stream, which he was testing the latest dev build along side some of the devs. They were answering questions, concerns, and feedback about the new features and just any problems etc. So they do listen no doubt.

  9. I'm a massive Battlefield fan, and I have been playing BF4 quite a bit. They did the same thing as with BF3 when it initially came out. The maps were very small and not your normal massive-scale Battlefield maps. It's simply to attract the Call of Duty audience. They will have map packs out in no time to bring love to the real Battlefield players, so it's not something I worry much about. It's annoying, but it's normal business for them. It'll always be like this, until DICE get's more breathing room and COD looses it's spark. Then we'll get some decent maps and content at launch.

  10. ROM, you can do the below just so your able to join a server.

    - Copy the IP/port for a server from your list in Commander.

    - Go to Settings in DayZ Commander

    - Under Additional Launch Parameters, add -mod=@DayZ_Epoch;@CaribouFrontier

    - Hit the Launch DayZ option just under the Additional Launch Parameter.

    - When the game is at the main menu, go to Multiplayer, and hit remote and paste that in and join.

    This will get you in.

  11. In a way it would be ideal to offer the most options available, such as toggle on/off popular scripts and have it bundled together. The problem I do see with this though, is it would slow down the development of the mod tremendously. There's not a full time studio pumping updates out - it's individuals doing it on their spare time which is beyond generous. So at the same time, it would require much more involved work to ensure with each change and update, all the extra scripts all function properly and are updated.

I'd personally prefer they focus on core aspects of Epoch, to ensure the mod is moving forward and coming up with further innovations - than spending time across many different tasks, and each coming out mediocre.

Just a thought and opinion of course. I do agree, but there's always something bad with a good.

  12. He's running a vanilla Epoch server, which by official standards do not use any modifications. Once a mod is applied, it's not vanilla(plain). We run vanilla only as well, so I see where your coming from. It does seem there's a higher audience for modded servers currently, and especially ones that add in quite a large amount of content - mostly because people are wore out and will give anything a try at this point. These may always be more popular because of the added content alone.

The problem with most modifications/scripts, they do water down the game play and take much of the difficulty and harshness that DayZ is known for out of the picture. I've personally enjoyed the more hardcore side of DayZ, but as more and more people are introduced, like most games evolution tends to lean towards making things easier on everyone.
