  1. Seems like there's always a fanboi who can't accept the truth :P

    Never played a minute of Origins. I just don't like hater. :P

    Don't get me wrong. I just love facts. Nothing else.

    Yes, that is what they say and that they continue developing (without releasing). There are still plenty of server online. Guess they have to die first, right?

  2. It is dead, they breached the BIS license, always have and always will as they only created the mod for the sole purpose of making money.

    Kingcunt won't develop the mod for free like Epoch devs do, they had exclusive license deals with GSP's so Origins servers costs a premium with that money being split between Kingcunt/GP, Vilas and Martin.

    Seems like there is always a dude in the internet who knows better...

    Dear community of Origins Mod,

    In response to numerous questions to us, we want to clarify the situation around our mod.

    By opinion of the Bohemia Interactive we are violating their rights and should accept following conditions (requirements):

    - Origins Mod must match a new licenses of the Bohemia Interactive;

    - All our work, we must to release under license DML-SA (http://www.bistudio.com/english/community/licenses/dayz-mod-license-share-alike);

    The essence of the new licenses is to ensure that we are required to put our content and unique experience for use in other mods.

    We agreed to release Origins Mod under the following licenses:

    - The content, taken from Dayz Mod Community Edition 1.7.2.6 (2012 august), are part of the Origins mod is licensed under the DML-SA;

    - The content of Origins Mod, created by Origins Team, licensed under the APL (http://www.bistudio.com/english/community/licenses/arma-public-license) provided the use / modification with the consent of the authors.

    The position of all developers of Origins Mod is that the adoption of DML-SA for the entire content Origins Mod lead to loss of identity and atmosphere of our favorite mod.

    Communication with Bohemia Interactive is slowed down by not answering the calls and not answering mails about negotiation this issue.

    That it does not allow us to issue timely updates Origins Mod.

    We are continue our work on the mod.

    Sincerely,

    Origins Mod developers team.

    It's alive until all the servers are gone and all the devs stopped working on it.

    I'm not saying that its right what they do, but the fact of the matter is: It's still alive.

    Anyway, lets get back to topic.

  3. Hopefully nothing than that with 1.0.5. We have to wait for more informations. You also could try it out. Some here got steam already running. Non of them with 1.0.5. as far as I know. Cant try it out since I am still at work. Someone here who can try it out? Just update and change the reporting ip.

  4. life is open source - I will steal that line from you :D

    Thx for taking the time and making your point clear. I think I got you now and where you guys draw the line. Hope thats also enough information for grave867. I, personally, still stuggeling with the idea of creating something like that. Time will tell. Just wanted to understand whats allowed and whats not since this is the No 1 source for Epoch related scripting and I heavily rely on that.

    Wish you a lot of fun with Epoch 3 development. :D

  5. You would struggle to get much further from the truth..

    Am very interested to see the populated server this is currently being tested on.. What's the IP ?

    I guess I am far from the truth since I would expect it. It just seems like it by the facts I got so far. That why I asked for a better explanation. You guys didn't decide on not allowing it for no reason. I think there is a reason and I believe its a good one, I just didn't hear it so far. I am just politly asking if you could explain it better to me. I'm not even expecting to change your opinion on that topic. Just enlight me pls.

    And... I dont get your second line. Your referring to what exactly? You wanna see a populated server that is using a custom script pack? Pick a random one that is not running on Epoch vanilla.

    Edit: I think the only thing grave867 wants to provide is collection of some of most common custom scripts. Already installed and jsut ready to use. You might have noticed the guys around here who have struggle to get some custom scripts running. You could even prepare a underlying system that gives the server owner the possibility of activating some of the custom scripts and keep others deactivated by just changing a bool.

  6. Correct me if I am wrong or if I forgot something, but the basic arguments against it are:

    • Could be that you as the pack creator lose interested in maintaining it at some point and the pack wouldn't receive any update.
    • Take care of the copyright. (Which is really important!)
    • Could be/will be that this will creates more work for the creator
    • Could be that this pack needs some love after Epoch reveives an update (which doesn't happen that often)

    All of that could also happen if you just release a script for something. And this stuff is happening quite often. Cause the script is shit or because the one who want to implement it has no clue what he is doing (more likely). So I dont really see the problem. Yes, a pack could introduce problems, but they are manageable and if not, the pack will die like all the addons that are just shite. Take one of the million safezone scripts. I don't know one that is working 100% correct.

    What I would love is branching off a stable build of Epoch. Which is something you guys do in your git hub every day I guess. Yes, you as the creator of Epoch lose control since this could introduce more "Sub"-Mods of the Mod (limited to the server and mission files). Everyone should be able to do his own mistakes. Putting an untested/unstable pack on his hive could be one of these mistakes. Welcome to the free world. :D Yes, you probably learned a lot by doing it.

    Don't get me wrong. At the end of the day its your forum and your Mod. So its your call, but I don't get your arguments and I don't see the problem as long as the copyright is cool. For me, all of that sounds like you wanna protect the people from something by controlling it. Sounds just wrong for me.

  7. Just to get it right: We could release a custom build that is just filled with our code besides the original Epoch/Dayz code, right? So for example taking the latest server and mission files of 1.0.4.2a and just add a bunch of selfmade scripts and providing that as a custom build is allowed?

    No offense, but contributing to the Epoch project is not my thing. I just dont like your update schedule and they way you communicate about your updates, further plans and game designs. Besides that, awesome work with that Mod. :D

  8. I guess you are the original dev of that system, right? Otherwise you should inform yourself about the legal aspect of converting that code into a new system and give it a new name. Sounds just not right for me.

  9. Seems like the answer is "no", there is no other way to get the update: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?178577-ARMA-2-OA-Beta-build-124802-%281-63-build-Steam-only%29

    At least not for now. Seems like we have to be patient and stay with the old patch. I mean pre-112555. DayZ Commander is still running. That gives us time and its probably anyway the tool most of the player use to connect to DayZ servers. I also guess this will delay the release of 1.0.5, but I gave up my hope to hear anything about that by the Epoch Devs. Transparency isn't really their thing. At least providing a cool Mod is theirs :D

  10. It's because patch 1.0.4.2 only works with patch 103718. It's on Commander just as an older version.

    Since you replied already here. Any information about 1.0.5???? I mean you see that we have currently at least 4 threads about gamespy shutting down tomorrow and some of the people seem to hope that 1.0.5 fixes some of the bugs that are starting to showing up as soon as you apply the latest beta patch. Would be lovely if you would finally share something...

  11. If you look even closer you will see that they didn't work on it for even 23 days now. The update Skaronator did 3 days ago was just an cleanup of personal files that were still in there.

    @Saltzmann: I hope 50% of the servers die. That didn'T happen since the standalone came out, but 50% of playerbase left for sure. :D
