Looking to start a dedicated server

Hi iv ran a few servers in the past and after finally giving up on dayz.st iv decided to go dedicated .

Now iv got the server install page ready, I just need a server.

But I'm completely new to this so if I went to online.net , there is so much to choose from,

So my question is what do I buy?

You should go with a hoster that provides Anti DDos. (Just My Oppinion. Incase people begins to DDOS your server.)

 

Online.net provides a Anti DDOS. But i dont know how good it is. And how big attacks it can take.

I can tell you NFO server processors for their vds, the old i7s are to slow if your gonna run missions and sarge ai. I switched to a dedicated i7 4770. I will let you know if it worth the extra money. As far as full dedicated machines go, not vps, the cheapest I have found is XLhost.com they only charge 10 dollars for a ssd, and 15 for a second. Every one else i found wants 50 bucks per ssd drive or more. Having a ssd makes a big difference. On my nfo when i added missions sarges ai, and a couple of other things. The mission file went up to around 900kbs, the load time, from logging in creating character and server authentication took over 3 mins. Then once it started, it took around 2. With the ssd that time was cut down to less then a min.  I also got less red and yellow chain links with a ssd. 

Now on nfo, the cpu is almost 70 percent all the time, and after around 3-6 hours depending on how i have the ai set. I have to restart. I was told that even with a dedicated server, I am going to have the same problem. And that i wont see a difference. But it should be set up tomorrow. I will let you know if its worth the extra 70 bucks for a dedicated machine.

I can say this though, it worked fine when i just had no other mods but epoch 1.0.4.2 and DZAI.

Well, they only took around 12 hours on a sunday to set it up. It has everything they said it did. With 2 ssd drives, with the sql and server on different ssds it should run better. I havent got any desyncs yet. but its only been up for a hour. Its only 2ghz of the 3.6ghz of the cpu so far. On the VPS it was always maxed out, I am not sure why, considering the vps says it has a better cpu. I guess there is a big difference between Virtual and real. I will let you know if the servers still running in 8 hours when i wake up. If so thats a big difference, with the nfo vps i got maybe 3, before it started to have problems. This is with dzmissions 2 missions around 10-15 ai each. Sarge ai is running with them stealing vehicles, and 3 npcs per group. With the performance settings, the ones where they detect each other, better than default Ethier way though if you want a 1.0.4.2 epoch with dzmissions sarge ai, self blood at hospitals and ambulances, pick your spawn point, with classes. I have my dayz server, and mpmissions files pboed and to drop box, so i can send them to you if you want.

Yep I am very happen with a dedicated machine vrs a vps. Its like night and day.

You want to go with a dedicated over a VPS, since the VPS is more for website, and since arma require power from cores, while VPS is virtual so it will start to lag since those cores are shared. The way a VPS works is, by hosting you section on a hard drive with is linked to a few motherboards with a CPU on each. So it basicly running your server on 5 different PC's and other people with VPS also run on thoses pcs, causing major lag for games. Now a dedicated server, means that the whole box is yours, nothing else is running on it. So what you want to run is what the CPU processes and not some other website that being hosted on the same pc. I recommand you use Regencyhost.com , they may seem a bit priced, but its the best. They have direct connections with the data center so...

I sent a support ticket since my box was down, with in seconds, I got a reply from Regencyhost. Told them some more in live support communication and then they connected with a Support Tech, within a min and had a REAL PERSON, standing next to my Server (The Physical Box). Within the next 30mins of testing, they found that my Network card had die and replaced it and restarted my server. All of this was done in less then 40mins and my server was back up.
