Leigham
Ive never had this problem before, but its been renaming my file to publicvariable.txt to publicvariable.txt.original after a restart ? any ideas ?
axeman
Am not sure but there is mention of the same thing there. Normal BE behaviour or BEC related? I never use BE on my test server, slows down development time :)
horbin
The renaming is part of the 'watchdog' plug in for BEC. The Epoch admin tools are placing a random variable into the publicvariables file each log in as a security measure. If you need to add something to the publicvariables.txt file, I would recommend shutting down your server and BEC, making the change then bring it back on line. Doing this, BEC will make a copy of your changes. Making changes while the server is running will persist, until BEC resets, at which point it puts the .original file back overwriting any changes. On another note, this mechanism appears to be buggy. I am having issues getting kicked when trying to use the admin tools. Sometimes it happens, other times it does not. I have given up on using BE until I'm ready go onto a production server. At that point, some other admin tool will probably be needed because of this bug. Izzer
This is by design.... Are you running into issues? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.
Leigham
yes, im getting publicvariable restrictions for the admin tools and when players access vics
Leigham
Still everytime i restart the server it reverts, if someone could help it would be great
horbin
Yep I see many posts about this issue. Always same solution: Read the install instructions! Well, I feel there is something else going on. Something to do with the timing of BEC connecting to the server and when a player first joins. Anyway, it seems to only affect folks using the Epoch Admin tools. Easier way around this is to shutdown the server, set the value of the publicvariable filter to 3 then fire it back up. This leaves you open to somewhat, but better than running with No BE (as I was doing earlier :) ) I'm sure the bug will get resolved at some point
Leigham
Thanks Horbin, thats worked, but now my Lspawner isnt working ? could this be something to do with BE ?
Humpabry
instead of editing the publicvariable.txt edit the publicvariable.original file this will load all filters to the .txt file every restart
Leigham
ive got both as the same now :) the servers actually working now, i just need to fix lootspawning
Havoc302
Yeah I have to often set publicvariable back to 3, the server seems to almost randomly set it back to 5 at a restart, very frustrating. This behaviour was not on A2 and I'm not using the built in admin tools so I can only imagine it's something that's come with Epoch, BE or BEC.
