  Epoch is coming along well.  I know its fun for the development team to drop some surprises with "New" features or upcoming features but I think it might be beneficial in the long-term to share these ideas ahead of time.

 

  For instance this building maintenance is a good idea on the surface but now we can see that needing to maintain each piece of often times huge bases is very tedious.  Now we have suggestions of creating mass-maintenance devices that auto update many items at once.  This means more scripting and such to catch up to the way players are using the system.  This creates a development team that spends half its time working in reverse instead of innovating future designs. 

 

  I believe the community would have foreseen this maintenance issue and presented useable ideas before the Modular Build System was ever released. 

 

  Perhaps future ideas can be shared and discussed prior to release so the community might be able to see an exploit or an inefficient system mechanic before a feature ever hits live servers.

Completely agree with this.

 

If we'd have known about the plans for modular building we could have prepared better before switching out the base building system we originally used. We knew people would want bases with traders and currency, its the natural progression for it. However the switch over went with no complaints at all as the modular system is far superior to what turned into very industrial bases full of containers that really were an eye sore.

 

If everyone would have known that cinder and metal flooring was coming, they wouldnt have made their bases out of just wood and would have held off or planned for it. Is there different types of wall still to come? Its still difficult as without destruction, these walls are immovable currently without admin intervention.

 

People are using more pieces than needed for windows now, two half cinder walls and then a garage door as an openable window to be able to shoot out of and defend from. Thats three pieces per wall section in many cases creating more stress and more maintenance needed, which is another reason many servers have it switched off and are waiting for a central maintenance point. 

 

Now that you can 'build anywhere' and the buildables ignore the terrain contours, people are going to want to rebuild again and won't need so many pieces to get objects flat/flush.

 

This isn't a complaint either, just a request for information. Of course you don't want other mods to steal your ideas and implement them before you, you're now in the position where it doesn't matter if that happens as everyone will know that Epoch did it first.
