Personally I doubt they would be interested in attempting to port over assets to a new engine that likely will have poor documentation.
Also if the license for DayZ mod is any sign, I doubt I would want to wrap my code up in the license that will probably be included with modding for Standalone.

By having their own mod for Arma 3 they are able to do as they wish under whichever license they wish. There's no threat of Bohemia possibly coming down and telling them what they can and can't do.

Everything that has been done in DayZ Standalone could be done with enough time and effort by dedicated developers of an Arma 3 mod. Hell for example I even had readable books programmed two years or so ago for A3: 2017 mod, unfortunately that code is probably gone now.

Good points all around.  I just know how fun Epoch as back in the day and would like to see it carry on. 2017 was another mod that certainly had promise.

  2. Is there a reason the space bar works for things such as opening trader windows or for examining things such as dead animals or sappers....but for opening doors the only option appears to be middle mouse button.  I've tried different keybinds and can make it work.  Space bar is set for action.  Hmmm....

  3. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.  The wooden wall, cinder wall, etc... (doesn't seem to matter) will be locked in with the countdown timer doing just fine before it is permanently in place...then boom...when the timer reaches "zero" and all should be well, the wall magically moves diagonally and must be removed and I start over.

    Any ideas?

Our AI, as mentioned, is only applied to Epoch antagonists and animals, dogs have the most features of the animals

We are currently working on a task / mission system that is due for release to experimental very soon.

After that I intended to work on a similar system of individually configurable AI characters. There may be a first draft of this available in the task system.

You can already see some of the behaviour in the generals daughter and the looting guy from the experimental branch ;)

I continue to enjoy many aspects of this mod, with the antagonists probably being the best part.  I understand having too many randomly spawn can create performance issues, and I admit to not understanding why there can be so many barking dogs and flying birds and yet not enough sappers or cultists.  Also, many servers I have been on have what appears to be an abundance of AI soldiers without taking a toll on the server.  If there are random "soldier" AI added in by the server owner that can be tolerable, as long as it isn't predictable...basically if you know every time you venture out there will be soldiers waiting....well, that really kills my interest.

At the end of the day, I will keep hoping for more sappers/cultists/similar as well as any missions you may be working on.  So much potential with this mod.

  5. When I played about a year ago, I finally tired of the AI automatically popping up in every single town you hit.  It was just all over done and all suspense was gone.  What little I've played lately seems to have transport trucks going by in close range, as well as AI soldiers on foot, and unless I engage them it feels as if they leave me alone.  I really like that style far better...but probably just due to limited encounters.  I know in the past these same situations would have resulted in a battle but then again...maybe I don't recall that well.

If jammer is not surrounded by cinder walls it is possible to destroy it by shooting at it directly or through a wooden/metal wall. But that would take many HMG rounds and many re-arms, let alone if one were used normal gun. So do not worry too much about it.

Thanks.  So cinder walls can't be destroyed with guns or the HMG?

Some like take over base, some prefer to remove it (which is pain in the ass with that "remove item" timer, waste of time in general and very quickly becomes not fun). But yeah, most people if they manage to destroy jammer will take everything apart. So protect it.

    Rant incoming in 3...2....1..

I have my way of making indestructable base - make floating 1x1 room (everytime you need to maintain base you will have to craft 1 or 2 sets of stairs to reach it) and protect the roof of such room with stud wall or something. BAM. Indestructable base. If any admin/server owner doesn't like it, give him middle finger and say that literally anything in Arma 3 can be glitched through and abused so it is the only way to protect your base against such people. Seen so many servers with retards creating rules "booohoo base must be raidable from ground, booohoo cant protect helis with stud wall, boohoo you must leave your base doors open so that everyone could just take whatever they want!". Screw such people and their thinking. This is mad max world on Altis and unless you play in some kind pussy whitelisted server with 2 people, there will be a time where glitcher comes and simply walks through all your walls and destroys your jammer/safes etc.

My current base is almost exactly as I described, just that it is aesthetically pleasing and people from outside have no idea that it is in fact floating base :D Even admins clueless as they never play on a server. The only weak spot is my roof as server has build limits too low so I can not protect it good enough but I do not care. I do not want to avoid legit raiders but avoid glitchers and as far as I know, there is no way to glitch through floors (if there is I'm fucked).

That being said - don't be lazy, you have imagination and everytime you have a design in mind try to think like a bad guy and imagine how would you take over your base. If you can do it, your design is shit. If you can't, you need more imagination and practice :D

Protip - you can put jammer on the ground horizontally, it does not have to stand vertically, just move it around a little bit and glitch into building structure or just raise it up and let it fall down then pick up. Once it is horizontal you can place it in tiny 1x1 room. Jammer kills if it touches you. Try not to die doing that. ;)

Thanks very much.  What if I can put a jammer room as you describe, but for the moment it is pretty much in the open?  Elevated, connected somewhat to the top edge of 2 story house, no way to access without stairs being built.  Can an HMG take out the door AND destroy a jammer from the ground?

To get started you only need about 300 lumber packs (or less if you are content with 2x2 base lol) which is 30 minutes of cutting trees at most and if you do it alone. Since you can craft workbenches from wood, you can store your loot there temporarily however it is always good idea to build a secure, at least 1x1 room as your temporary storage with locked doors . Basebuilding itself, especially if you build from scratch on flat ground and know where you wanna build is easy, just people hate cutting trees and getting wood first. Seen so many bases where it was obvious a person started everything building from cinder and the you get uneven walls, floors, base look like a slum.

So for a start, find materials for a jammer and then hatchet or a chainsaw. That's it, you do not need anything else for now just cut trees. Of course when you done and want to make locked doors you will need electronic components, but those come from drones who spawn everytime (unless server has them disabled) or in regular epoch loot (trashpiles, shipping containers).

You do not need foundations, wooden floor snaps to the ground almost everytime. Also using foundations and not covering them up make it possible to bug abuses. Never put your shelfs, workbenches or even safes close to outer wall unless it is twice human height.

Only when you finish base and have basic idea, it is wise to upgrade it to cinder.

Thanks very much guys.  Now to build I have to have jammer first, and of course would want to secure that...right?  So start small with secure jammer in an area where I can go bigger?  Is that right?

  9. The only time I had success building a base....about 6 months ago....was pretty much due to an admin helping me.  Can you share some general ideas on the best way to get one up and running in a realistic way?  I'm not sure how you possibly store enough mats to get a good start, knowing they will be unsafe until the base is fully enclosed.  Yet it seems to take so many mats that you could never get it done.

    Any thoughts?

  10. Big fan of this game and just waiting to check in every few months.  My hope is one day to have lots of various beasts to deal with vs. AI soldiers.  Being back for a few days makes me think that you can now actually starve/dehydrate leading to death now?  Excellent.

I also noticed that I slowly started getting the medical symbol in upper right hand corner of screen but it wasn't clear why.  I had been poisoned a couple of times and that reached 84, but kept coming back down to the 20 range.  Everything else was fine.  I finally died with no symptoms other than that symbol flashing and screen around edges blurring randomly.  Also my breathing was off for sure.  I like it all...but would like it more if I knew what happened.
