I tried first time after a patch to light up a fireplace after I placed it (space bar > upgrade) but there was no upgrade option. Server is far from vanilla, but I suspect it will be similar bug like with lockboxes/safes too. EDIT: found out that I can upgrade when they are on the ground, will have to test again in second floors of buildings to be sure that it was not a server glitch.
