Somename
I will list some of the issues/annoyances I've found in an unorganized order. Please do not give me the garbage of "this game is not for u dude xDDD" or "go play cod xDDD" or whatever meme/slogan that can be thrown at me. I list the things I find annoying, take it or leave it (and I don't speak for myself only)--and YES, I KNOW it's an alpha. I know. I know. I know--: 1. After over 12 hours of playing (10+ on an official server) I have only ONCE(!!!!!) found a hatchet and that was from a trader that someone had sold their hatchet to. I have loooted so many things, even TWO CHAINSAWS!!!! - yet never once looted a single hatchet after recent patch. This is clearly an issue. Hatchets should be the most abundant item in the game since it's melee range and provides the fundation for playing the game. 2. The flying drone antagonist is extremely "bugged" since sometimes only after THREE seconds of the drone spawning, AI spawn aswell. And everybody knows how insanely accurate, aimbot-like the Arma 3 AI is as opposed to Arma 2 AI. I have died SO many times to this annoyingly bugged drone atagonist that I've lost count and smashed my keyboard several times. 3. Shipping containers contain too little useful loot for the effort it takes to get to one (travel time + danger of enemy encounters + they're rarer than common). All I've found are scrap metal, vehicle repair parts and salvaged metal - none of which are in anyway useful for doing fundamental things such as making a camp fire. It would make sense if shipping containers contained piles of wood, a hatchet, food and drink OR (note: OR) ammunition--whatever else might be shipped in such a large container. 4. Loot is too random. How does it make sense that a grenade can be found in an oven, or that ammunition can be found in a refrigirator? Ovens and refrigirators need to only contain food items, while beds can contain ammunition, as well as drawers (because these are the places someone would store their weaponry/ammo). 5. Out of 1000 players, maybe 2 players like "realism"--and mind you, actual realism is impossible to simulate with the current hardware and on such a scale as Arma--so why on Earth force players to be subjected to "physics" when building? Arma 2 Epoch's building system was almost perfect (perfect on the server that had a snapping mod additioned). To me it is senseless to take a step back and make the game even harder than it already is. Yes, Epoch is hard. It's easy to die, very easy in fact. And look at the games that do have "realism" to the mechanics, all of them are TERRIBLE! When Rocket (DayZ creator) said he was going to add tons of disease to DayZ standalone, most players were very irritated by it, but due to their childish psychology, they've come to defend what they hate because of the mentally challenged "omg dude dis isn't cod xDDD" meme. Isn't it hard enough that we have to traverse a very large map on our bare feet, face the constant chance of dying to enemies, bugs and so on? -- why make the game even more difficult by making building so impossible, and when we can't even spawn at our building (which is fine, I accept it)??? It seems to be a waste of time to begin building because any kid can come over with his 5 16 year old friends and break down a wall and take everything that has been put a lot of effort into securing. 6. Good weapons such as snipers are too abundant and too easy to get one's hands on. Talk about "this isn't cawla doody dude xDDD" - with the abundance of weapon loot, it DOES actually look like a deathmatch like that game. 7. Since mobs are client-side, it would make sense to increase the amount of sheep/cattle that spawns nearby, but reduce the nuisance of a dog barking that keeps respawning every 5 minutes and alarming everyone in the vicinity of your presence. More zombie spawning would also be lovely. 8. Would be good if we could at least get the option to get the mod to be more like Arma 2 (by modifying it). I don't see why not, it's not like any of us are going to gain any revenue on it anyway. 9. Thirst should not be quenched so extremely quickly, or at least not later on in the game. Most of the moving in this game is done through running, it's unacceptable having to lie down every 40 seconds for 20 seconds to "get one's breath back". 10. Would be a great addition if atagonists spawned in military bases much more than otherwise, when a player is present, since most simply barricade the military bases with one or two walls and harvest all the loot they want without any disturbances (and the tower inside the military base makes it very difficult to raid when someone is in there). J.R.
You seem to be really angry, so I'll preface my response with these are just my opinions about your frustrations, so relax, nothing personal. 1. I thought the same thing about hatchets until I started looting construction sites. There is an example of one at grid 114142. These buildings can spawn something like 20 loot containers. I found 3 hatchets on one trip and almost every time I go there I find a hatchet. I usually loot some other house in the town nearby those coords and the come back 30 minutes later and bam, all the loot containers in the construction site has respawned. I disagree about how they "should be abundant." I don't want players coming on my server and building items within 15 minutes of joining because they find hatchets everywhere. I don't want random, shitty bases all over my server b/c players can build something quick and leave. If they want to stay and put in the time then find a hatchet the hard way and build something. 2. If the drone you are referring to spawned AI within three seconds then that means it had line of sight on you that quickly. It requires line of sight to you and when it detects you with that dial up modem sound, AI will come. As soon as I hear it, I start shooting. If I don't get it quickly enough I retreat to high ground or the top of a building and take the AI out from cover. I have never been killed by them. Honestly, I don't know how much AI you've played around with but they are pretty easy compared to some AI I've seen at missions on Arma 2 Overpoch where I've been killed by AI from 1000+ meters. 3. I agree about shipping containers. Some food in them would be nice, toolbelt items, good guns and ammo. All I am finding every time are 2-3 backpacks, some metal, and scrap electronics. 4. We're finding loot in all the right places so I don't understand why you're not. If I open up a fridge or oven I am finding food and drinks, maybe sometimes I find ammo but pretty rarely. Loot seems to be working just fine on our server. 5. I was frustrated by the building at first as well, I even died by walls falling on me. Since then, I love it. On an overpoch server I play on there are sky bases everywhere where players have floating bases. I hate this. A3 Epoch prevents this from being a reality so I am very happy with the physics. If building is too hard for you then find a perfectly flat spot to build on. If you still find it too hard then....I don't know what to tell you, cuz it's really not that "hard." If you're having trouble getting walls to stand up on uneven ground, use a vehicle to prop them up against until they set. 6. I agree snipers are abundant. Balance is something developers do over time after receiving feedback like ours. 7. I also agree dogs are annoying as hell. But I think of them as another "threat" to my safety. I need to manage my movement and have a silent weapon for killing the dogs so they don't give me away. More animals to kill for meat would be nice, but many players have already expressed this in food/water threads. 8. Why would they want their new Epoch for Arma 3 to be more like Arma 2? Why would anyone be tempted to move from A2 Epoch to A3 Epoch if it clones its predecessor? They need to feel different with similar "lineage" so the Epoch dev team can leave a more unique mark on their game genre. 9. Not sure why you're associating thirst and stamina. Two different stats. Currently, tons of feedback is pouring in about how water/sodas should give more thirst "calories" back than they already do. I think in the upcoming changelog the devs have already stated they plan to increase the amount of points that liquids give to your thirst rating. As far as running, yes, at first it feels like you have to stop alot. Then as you stay alive longer you get a lot more stamina build up. I am not sure if it's tied to life length or wellness. But currently I have something like 300+ stamina built up and I can run forever. 10. If a building is hard to get into because a player is there, your solution is to make that building spawn AI/sappers/cultists? Come on, that's just silly. The solution is kill the player and raid them and run them out. As far as players turning buildings into bases, you must be playing on the wrong server then. Most good servers will have rules against building bases where loot spawns or at least military loot spawns. A server group I play on has something like 500 players on their servers right now and they have a rule that no loot pile at all can be blocked by player building. Seems to be popular for them. I hope you find that some of your concerns are addressed in the future. Happy gaming.
JohnyMST
OK OK in regards to building and "PhysiX"... I like the way the game is intelligent and will not let you build in the air BUT FOR F**K SAKE, if I get my "PhysiX" right, can it at least snap straight to the piece beside it so there are no gaps?? It really pissed me off yesterday that I had to strip half of my base just to get a wall closer to the other wall - this turned out impossible because the foundation wouldn't fit correctly. Snapping is shit now. It was perfect in the A2 mod If you just include the A2 snapping mode in your "PhysiX" it would be great. Right now I'm feeling like i'm moving back in time to the beginning of time and I'm afraid that other servers will start modding the scripts to enable A2 building mode - I would like to see the original Epoch Mod do this before others do it... and call it ZombieEpochOverOrigins2017Royale SHIT
pr1malr8ge
Ha, I agree with J.R. as far as thirst and staminia goes. Stamina is tied to life. The longer you're alive the more stamina you have.. I currently have a staminia of around 1100 I could probably have a thirst of 2500 and run longer then my thirst would last. But I'm a lone wolf sniper so I have the bare nessisties and don't need to loot often. Shoot an animal, start fire and eat. Go to a water spot craft water and drink. only truly main thing I need is ammo supply which forces me closer to towns. On a side note, 1k shots are gawd aful hard compared to A2 so don't worry so much about snipers. Just don't sit on outside rims of towns looting colapsables. allways keep your body minimaly exposed and you're pretty good to go.
