Yeah it works. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had killed a sheep so I used the sheep raw leg to tame the dog.
I did this way:

When the dog was at about 5-6 meters from me it stopped.
I holstered my weapon.
Put the raw meat on the floor.
Moved away a little bit (2-3 meters) and then sat down.

The dog got close to me then turned towards the meat.
Stopped there a few moments then the meat disappeared and I got the message "you tamed Riley" (not sure about the exact name, but I guess it was his name ;))

Then Riley started to follow me around.

But... the problem is that another dog arrived... same exact race of Riley, so I could not tell who was who.
I was scared to get attacked but I didn't kill them... I did some testing.
The new dog seemed to be kept away from me by Riley.
Only once one of the two came close to me and I moved away just in case it was not the tamed one.

 

I also got attacked by one of those exploding monsters but the dog didn't seem to attack it or try to save me in any way (at least that I noticed).
I let the monster come close then ran away when I saw it was exploding.
When it went BOOOM! the dogs were quite close to it but they didn't seem to get any damage.

 

After all this I disconnected and when I reconnected both dogs were gone.

Shot a guy with a dog earlier, and a friend got ' You have trained Fido' come up apparently... Maybe the past owner was abusive?

 

I would think the guy you shot was carrying food for his dog, upon death it became available and the nearest person was assumed to be the provider of food by the dog.

So it only works with raw meat?

I've tried it with bio meat, sardines, meatballs... doesnt work..

the only thing that the dog is doing is... he is sitting next to me..

Dogs are cool but aren't you guys afraid of them giving away your location by barking and following you everywhere?

I have gotten most dogs to follow me, no food involved as well. I like the company and I feel a sense of security, actually maybe it's placebo, but I have less creepy things follow me when they're around.

 

But I agree, they agro other players, and you may get shot.

 

I met one guy who was friendly at first, then I told him, that the 2 dogs over there were mine. He then promptly shot me dead without saying anything else lol... I hope they took care of him!
