Since you guys are going for a futuristic approach, what about a ray gun? Or a gamma gun so that you wouldn't have to make a visual path for a "bullet" (laser beam) because you can't see gamma rays. All you would have to do is model the gun, add custom ammo and a sound clip for reloading and firing and some animations. Maybe make energy packs the ammo and have the energy packs be rechargeable when generators and power sources are added? Maybe also a gamma rifle? That'd be awesome.
