  1.

Side note, but on topic: my excitement for this mod just took a massive hit now that there's going to be a banking system. Doesn't fit with the "harsh environment" theme at all.

I don't know if adding this feature is a bad thing as lots of people will be spending an awful lot of time building up a presence on there favorite server and to loose lots does hurt some more then others.  Maybe the Dev's could enable a config to disable the ATM system for servers who want to run with a hard core mode.

I also think that this system could have a couple of extra config types.

maybe have a set of modes

    • ATM's around the map With safe zone
    • ATM's around the map without safe zones
    • Have one Great big bank with Mercenaries AI that could be Raided if you have the Stones
    • Small Branches with AI
    • Your personal safe can hold the cold hard cash.
    • you can put it under your mattress

These are just some thoughts on how they could be configured but I know that adds additional complexity, but it could also help to provide server diversity

    Just my 2 cents

  2. When you start using hacks, you are past the limit :P

I'm fairly sure if you can find ways to hack the game then the development team would be able to use your detailed steps on how you did it to try and patch them.  As a developer who is involved in testing regularly I would like to know about what can break things both for coding bugs, like ways to dupe, as well as exploitable hacks so I can patch them out.

IMPORTANT: Saying this I do not mean I condone cheating, but if you have the skills to find this stuff and the morels to report it and not use the exploit or port it to anyone but the devs then If i was on the team of developers I would be happy to know about it so I can block it.

  3. We have to pay. Donate to Sequisha or to kiory123 on his twitch. Or at least buy Arma 3 to support the engine. We have to pay to win fantastic life in a distant future, now...

Anyone who wants to play Epoch on A3 will need to support the engine by purchasing.  the OP is more about the way Server owners help to fund there hosting costs by custom load out's.  It is a difficult balance as you must be careful to not make it too easy for people who have purchased custom load outs that give them an advantage at spawn.  but you also need to balance the cost of the server and keep your regular players happy.

And after assisting with the Gaming community my friends run I see how expensive and hard it is to keep the community running smooth.

But as a final note. if you want to play on a server with unfair advantages there are always many others out there that are run differently and it is the community of friends and betterment of the gaming community that is important.

  4. f/When the Australian servers are up, Can I grab a key to test them?

I am able to record and upload bugs and report back daily if needed.

Should be up within the next 24 hours.

I look forward to joining an Australian/New Zealand community. Is there a place I can get to know the community while I wait to see if I get lucky with a key or when the closed period is over and becomes open.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

    And happy hunting.

  5. I do believe in people giving donations to the server they play on when that have the ability to. I don't really like donator perks as the can make them pay to win with the way some owners run there servers.

I know this is a likely out of scope idea for the project but maybe a script developer could add a way to customise some of the aesthetics.  maybe SUV's having neon under lights or special hat or cloaks. they can be a sign of donating. lol

  6. So if I am a player who loves to play and I dont watch other people playing cause my time is limited and I love to play, I cant play Epoch. That just sounds wrong. :( I mean its not like I have to be there at a specific time. That giveaway takes place over multiple hours.

So that Mod connected us cause we love to play it and now its about watching other players play instead of playing on our own. I leave that here. Its just something to think about. :D

I am in a similar boat as I am in New Zealand and have timezone issue to be able to watch the major people who stream.

However I understand that this is only a short duration that the mod will stay private.  I believe they are slowly promoting the pending release of the mod and also slowly expanding there testing poll at a rate that benefits the development of the mod. (don't want 2000 new players breaking things that are know about and filling the bug tracker or forums with duplicate bugs, or worse, whining)

I don't think anyone should think about their chances of keys being small/unfair as we will have an amazing mod at the end of the process that will be open to all.

  7. I think best thing is wait to see what the Epoch mod turns out like. you might end up liking the way the AI has been implemented.

As for breaking point being merged. I don't think that would go down very well. very different development styles and I would prefer the breaking point mod not muddy the clean waters of  Epoch

  8. I love this idea.

another thing you could do is possibly have the chance that the NPC quest giver can give out counter missions once you accept.  so not private missions on your map only but not public.  only for people who have gone to the agent and requested a mission and can try and grab the bounty off you or before you.

  9. Yes you are right about no need for AI, but only under certain circumstances.  I feel that is you have a populated server of players who are truly after the PVP experience and if the population matches the size of the map then ou can have it with player entities only.

    1. But lets take a look at reasons for the AI.  Map is large and players are spreed out.  hardly finding each other.  IA mission provide rally points for conflict.

    2. Server is quiet for some reason.  AI provides something to shoot at.

    3. PVE server for those who do not want to hunt players but instead make friend with the other players and COOP things together.

    4. A Chance for Bambi's to be able to go against hard but more predictable targets to get gear and experience.

I think if that maybe a Admin configurable option to turn on and off the antagonists would be a good idea. maybe even with our the need of server restart, something in the Admin menu of the game.

but this is just my 2 cents.  each person will have there own play style therefore the own preferences.

  10. This would test. But, would only help very little ammont. Most people who not even report the bug, but complain when they lose something. Having it as closed Alpha makes it better cause people who are given access will report the bugs, and not B*tch about it. Also it more easy to control.

I agree, having 10 or 20 active testers who are actively looking for bugs and not just interested in playing is more beneficial then 200 players who just rage to their friends when they have a bug that "Ruins" their gaming experience, or who finds and exploit and decides to utilize it to benefit themselves rather then report it.

Even though I would love to get my hands on the game to help test I am happy that The Epoch team has made the right decision to focus on getting manageability and quality in there testing team. (Just fingers crossed open alpha or beta happens soon)

  11. Will the nights be pitch black of the clouds are over. if so please please please make some form of light a little more common to find. When I get the urge to play breaking point (takes motivation) i just log out at night cycle. can't even tell if in third or first person unless you look at the sky to see your silhouette,  I think I would get as much excitement playing a game call "Black Screensaver"

  12. It would only take some creative map making to create underground bunkers.  if the map engine truly can't accommodate for stuff under a certain depth then that is a real limitation and mistake by BI. but to combat that if that is an issue then you could simply add mountains and hill to raise the perceived ground level and then you would be able to build inside the structures.

do this could also give the chance to make some cool places. maybe the mountain base Wolverine got his adamantium, or a complete system of mine shaft from the years ago where gold was being mined.  (Imagine getting lost in a complex mine shaft system with Zombies all through the tunnels), or maybe even cheyenne mountain with a gate room for shits and giggles. Think of the weapons you might find that was brought back through the gate. lol  Epoch with a Staff Weapon (Ma'Tok)

  13. Also this Mod is going for first place in the MakeArmaNotWar contest,  and I have been checking out Breaking point... it is lacking lots. I mean I believe the most obvious Dup bug hasn't even been patched out yet and now the hatchet makes the player swinging have blood on the screen and spaz out. All in all a Lacking experience

I think I would prefer to wait patently for the Epoch Release as I know they have a higher build quality

  14. I love the idea of a big island map, nice not to need world border, the one thing I don't like about altis (and i like altis on a whole.) is that there isn't much cover. no expansive forest etc. I would also love how ever to be able to have basements in some of the houses that you could board up and bunk down in. or maybe caves and tunnels in the hills. maybe even set up like the old Vietnamese tunnel systems where you can live in underground bases and pop out different places to get position on enemy.

  15. Not Mad Kent ;), just thought I would mention your message said "Its hard to give you a calm answer". I just don't think swearing and non constructive messages help the community. but feel free to express your opinion which is your right, as I only expect the right to express mine on a public forum, as long as both stay within the confines of the rules of the forum.

  16. Its nothing personal, but there is a guy like you every second day asking the same fucking question... Its hard to give you a calm answer. If you would wanted one and if you would deserve one, you would have used the fucking search function that exists in every forum.

Always love to see colorful construction posts and the important use of profanity that always helps to emphasize a message. Awesome community spirit.

  17. I hear where your coming from SkyDogs. The anticipation is killing me. this is the only forum I check religiously every day. but being a technical IT guy I think even giving a time window might be dangerous as you don't know what obstacles can get in your way to complete modules.

Something that seems like it might be easy to implement could get you stuck on it for weeks. And I think a community frustrated because you said the window should be 1 to 3 months and you end up getting stuck and release in 5 months etc, would not be fun to try and manage.

Remembering that we are still getting people join the forums and asking "pick me, pick me" for the testing team, expecting instant gratification because they have finally graced the forums with their presence. just image how much they would demand if the time window estimation was to get blown out.

  18. Edit:  TheVampire, typed.  "When they release an Open Alpha they plan to release the server files, then anyone can host their own server.

At the moment I believe there is only one Closed Alpha test server."

First open alpha release of the Server files will only be limited to selected hosts and will not allow additional scripting additions, as mentioned in other posts.  I think this is a good plan as it will give the core game a massive stress and bug test with out the complication of other bugs from less tested scripts and mods even if it does slow down the roll-out to most servers.

  19. So true Richie. lol

I feel that this stage this thread is a little redundant. There are so many people willing to "Test". The initial alpha test team is selected and if further testers are needed I bet the epoch development team can contact any of the numerous people who have already expressed interest and are active members of the community. (Or maybe even post an application form thread if needed)

I am a developer and know how to test (as a developer) and how to load bug reports, but that doesn't make me any more qualified over the person who doesn't even know Epoch. Part of the testing process should be to have fresh blood to epoch, Arma 3 or maybe even the entire genre.  People who have no idea what they are doing are more likely to break stuff over someone who know how it should work. Saying that experienced players and code monkeys are still bot important.

Having fresh blood can also help to identify learning curve issues.  be it that the complexity gap should be bridged by some form of optional tutorial section etc. Having to check external resources like wiki's shouldn't be needed. Hmm, sound familiar to another mod for A3 and when the wiki gets out of date it can become a real issue for new users)

But just watch people continue to post "Pick me" it is in the nature of this day and age to want it all and want it now.

  20. I would prefer this:

    bagpipes-28h0eef.jpg

So you can bury your fallen friends honorably ;)

A lot of work for the bagpipe players :P

And there is nothing more scary then men running down the hill at you, lead by a man wrestling with a screaming octopus under one arm.

  21. the makearmanotwar competition official site has all the info you asked about. but to help you out here are basic details.

Epoch stands with a promoted score of 1777 - closest competitor is VTN with a promoted score of 576. how ever this is just the voting by supporters and probibly wont reflect the overall compition when BI start doing there reviews. other then that there isn't much to go on as to who is most developed or most complete.
