in your configVariables.sqf fine this 

DZE_UI = "dark"; //"vanilla","epoch","dark"  UI status icons style. Dark accommodates color blind people.

play with it till some thing happens never i tried to remove it.    but i don't get why want to remove it

that what need to know if need food or not

all this is just per set ico's there is way to put your own have to look in epoch mod folder then DAYZ_code.pbo to fined the code move it mission side

Most things you can add in the player_updateGui.sqf. It's located in dayz_code/compile.
