Sarkasmi
Hello everyone, In short, I want to create a private DayZ Epoch server that I can mess around with and try things out on. The thing is, I have no prior knowledge of file editing and such. I know how to install mods for DayZ and things like that, but I basically have no technical knowledge. So if someone has the time to explain thoroughly how to set a server up and get it running, that would be much appreciated. Sarkasmi
Axe Cop
Start with this maybe: http://dayzepoch.com/wiki/index.php/Server_Installation_Instructions http://dayzepoch.com/wiki/index.php/Server_Configuration_Instructions
Sarkasmi
Start with this maybe:http://dayzepoch.com/wiki/index.php/Server_Installation_Instructionshttp://dayzepoch.com/wiki/index.php/Server_Configuration_Instructions Again, I have no knowledge of this kind of stuff, so I have no idea what the .sqm files are or what it means by creating a new MySQL file. I've obviously seen the wiki, but I'm looking for some more detailed/explained help. Thanks for the reply though.
Axe Cop
Well ok then, if you have no technical knowledge whatsover it's gonna be hard I tell you that! :D But a complete guide would take up hours, so maybe try and find out some of the basics yourself, there are many tutorials about that on youtube or the web, that ha sno relation to DayZ or Epoch for most part. I guess the hardest part is to setup the MySQL server for you, the other stuff is just copying some files and start the Epoch server. :) So try searching for something like "Installing MySQL on Microsoft Windows", like this http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/windows-installation.html in the official MySQL doc or try on youtube, e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87vXnwu0m9k for a step by step guide. After that your need to need to import the Epoch database (epoch.sql) into MySQL, again you can google that or whatever, "How to import sql dump to mysql" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7AV7xAvtIs Maybe someone can put up a complete guid but it is a lot of work! :D Edit: just found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3vgAWLF-8M (How To Make A Quick And Easy Epoch Server)

Bob_the_K
Hi, so I followed the instructions in the video, as well as a few other sites and have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled several times. I downloaded the latest and also the 1_0_3 SQL updates. Modified all the cfg files, etc. as per videos. So it tries to start and I first got a msg that addon 'dayz_anim' requires BAF. I click OK and the startup continues. A few seconds later I get a msg that Arma2 OA has stopped working. So I purchased BAF, let it install (I purchased from Bohemia, not steam) and then moved the BAF folder to the same place under my server folder structure. So now I get addon 'dayz_anim' requires CA_missions_BAF_Templates_SecOps. And I still get the Arma 2 OA stopped working message. Any thoughts or ideas as to what I may have missed or why I get the BAF related messages? For those of you system people, the system event log shows a faulting application error - arma2oaserver.exe, module BEServer.dll, exception code 0xc0000005. All I know is that's an access violation of some sort. Thanks, Bob

Bob_the_K
Yep... I did both, including OA Beta. It's not until I got the msg that it wants BAF that I purchased and installed it. And then it seems to be looking for a BAF template.
Axe Cop
you don't need BAF, just ArmA2 + OA. how do you start the server, with the default epoch start bat (DayZ_Epoch_instance_11_Chernarus.bat)?
Bob_the_K
I ended up doing a full re-install from the ground up for 1.0.4.2a (although I'm now using the NAPF map) and almost everything is operating normally. the one thing I still cannot figure out is why gender selection still isn't in effect. I've talked to a few other admins and others have had a similar issue. Many report that upon a total rebuild, it magically starts working. No one has been able to explain why. The reason I added BAF was for the additional texture maps, uniforms, and vehicles. So I didn't need to put those in server-side? Thanks.

So I didn't need to put those in server-side? no the server has no graphics, so that is only needed for the clients.. but if you want install it on the server it makes no difference I think :D
