its the whole risk vs reward argument .... should I bother to even try interacting? whats his intentions? is he looking to loot me or to just talk. the possibilities are endless and risking youre hard found loot is a very big gamble that most often people don't want to take. most KOS is paranoia and fear of losing your gear for me I think.

The main issue is people are forgetting the background story to the MOD itself: "Open world survival mod set in the year 2035, Just two years after the mass extinction of billions of people. Those that remain are left with remnants of a once technological society. Try to survive, build, or explore your way through the harsh dynamic environment."

Given that if this happened in the real world I highly doubt people would shoot on sight just to "get your stuff". Just look at WW1 & WW2 after both mass extinction of millions the people of this world worked together and helped each other as they were fighting for the survival of the species not for themselves.

Perhaps this should be more of a prevalent thought process for all those involved in this MOD.

Compering a mass extinction over the whole world in a game to WW1 and WW2? and If you look at the history and what Jews did sanctioned by the west world in Palestina really tells about the humanity there is in this world, 1948 about 1 million palestinians got hunted out of their homes don´t remember the death toll, only to give the Jews a country they have not had for a long long time. This is just a game though luckily but I really don´t think that comparison belongs here.

Back to the topic, the Devs want a playerbase to and to only aim for those that are looking for PVE and Roleplay it would get really really small.

Edit: its 1948 and one day is called Nakba.

You all should be happy to know that a system I've been putting together for a couple months should address this issue....to an extent.

If all goes as planned, it should accomplish 3 things.

-Add another layer of strategy to all player encounters.

-Provide lone wolves with enough advantage(if prepared) to level the playing field.

-most importantly, will NOT make veteran hostile players feel dragged into care-bear land.

I'm not going into it in this thread.

...but I've been considering every angle into and around this system....and feel we may actually solve the shoot-on-sight dilemma; without stripping players of choice.

You tease.

You are kinda missing my point here fella.... The point I was trying to make is that the current KOS / SOS player mentality is for those that should be playing wasteland not a mod that's in alpha where the dev's want everything testing. Sure PVP is expected but if the current rate continues players that actually want to test stuff are going to get bored and drop the mod due to the total PVP nature - as stated before those that actually want to help the dev's by testing stuff are being hampered by those that just want to ruin / make impossible said testing.

I agree real world politics should not have been used by my point was about thinking in a real world instance after a mass extinction event. Would you really walk up to someone and kill them after so many lives have been lost just 2 years beforehand? I highly doubt it....

I recognize this behavior from when Breaking Point had a week of complete chaos when it transitioned from Humanity to Factions, so I think the PVP focus will tone down once the new system is introduced. And lot´s of new players that are exploring the map right now so soon you will probably learn where there are calmer spots on the map where you can work in peace.

I really like PVP and to claim that its impossible to get anything done while it is a PVP mess i think is wrong, my group has started building a base and that only after 4 day´s in the Mod while We at the same time are learning the ropes and exploring the Map to see whats happening here compared to Breaking Point. I might be toughened after 9 months in Breaking Point with heavy PVP focus and lots of hive resets but still get stuff built.

Learn to be more stealth or to fight and don´t come with accusations that those that are into PVP don´t get bug reports sent.

We are 2 different players Im here having a giggle with my friends and you wan´t to play theatre with your friends, I believe that there is room for both playstyles but those that want to RP might need to learn how to be more stealthy, cautious and learn to read player behavior. If the apocalypse just has come and there are monsters out there in real life you would not run in the open, search a couch on a porch in the open and so on.

My first months in Breaking Point where all about running from fights and I learned to get away most of the times after a while, been hunted by a squad of 8 in vehicle´s and come out alive and Im not that good player ( Have come back to PC gaming after a 10 year break. )

Today I would never do anything to harm anyone but after something like that who know´s how screwed I would be in the head and then We have the real gangsters and terrorist out there that are screwed even before the society has collapsed, especially since it would be a lawless land and survival of the fittest before the communities has been rebuilt.

Stay in there it´s a alpha.. At least until they have released the new system and they have had it running for a couple of weeks.

What new system are you talking about? I havent seen anyone talking about or posting about a new system for faction or hero/bandit. You you please provide a reference?

No humanity or Faction he´s very diffuse : ) but it was earlier in this thread.

I agree to a point ....

what I believe is that whatever is left of humanity would band together to try and survive after an apocalypse , however to think that there wouldn't be crazies , robbers/bandits who are just out for themselves or just to kill for fun when there are no laws to govern them is naïve at best. yes most would try to build a society for themselves but the world wouldn't suddenly become a utopian society , it would be filled with the remnants of the past and battle hardened survivors who have seen the worst of the most horrible stuff imaginable.

even after ww2 there was korea , Vietnam , falklands , Iraq and back .... the world didn't so much as band together after the tragedy , id say it prepared for the next. Mankind has always been so imaginative at creating was to destroy ourselves.

'I do not know with what weapons world war 3 will be fought with, but world war 4 will be fought with sticks and stones' .. Albert Einstein.

Unfortunately this is a video game. Gamers can be asshats and shoot on site and care less because its a game.

I don't regard myself as a bandit but isn't banditry a legitimate roleplay style? , I would be bored senseless if I wasn't constantly on my guard for fear of a player nearby. remove that and I think you lose a lot of what makes the survival games essence , that "what if" factor or what I like to call ... can I trust this guy!?.

thanks sequisha , when i still shoot people on sight they "drop" even more casual tears and cry about how i did'nt use your new system.

that said i am looking forward to this system maybe i will take some people hostage and take all there stuff (your map's belong to me) as long as there is no extra risk over just blowing there brains out and looting the corpse . :D

Dying 21 times on one day when your not looking for trouble, how do you even manage to do that? It really sounds like you must start moving more careful and pay more attention on your surroundings.

KOS is there because it's a ARMA engine which is a shooter, every mod out there that's based on ARMA has a large portion of KOS' ers exept the hardcore RP servers but even there they often seem quick on the trigger.

The humanity system kept me from KOS but it had other problems and removed some of the sandbox feel. I will try being more open minded like I once was to strangers but after the first couple of days in this mod it's going to be hard I think.

Keep your spirit up and remember that this is in alpha and when it's released there will probably be RP servers.

lol yep. i die maybe once every 18 hours of play, if that. And that's with me looking for a fight and not sitting on a hill sniping.

For me it is a legitimate style to play, as a bandit. For me and the guys I play with it is sometimes just easier to get stuff together, if you see a group of player already having a truck or heli we set up an ambush and try to capture the stuff, most of the time with the consquence that the other group gets shot. For me it is part of the game that cant be safe no matter what you do.

But we wouldnt do that on unarmed or freshspawn players as we wouldnt get anything out of it for our base or gear. Worst in my opinios are those camping around spawnpoints with those big snipers or lmgs. Still if you are stealthy enough to get away you will always find a safe place to loot decent stuff and choose a base spot away from trouble, somewhere remote.

I 'm in the act of installing this mod, haven't joined a single server yet and I see THIS discussion..... really??

It's ARMA, it's gunporn and hardcore PVP, like every Arma mod there will ever be.

That's what I expect it to be and hopefully it won't disappoint me.

Damm, I hope this will be an even more unforgiving and cruel enviroment then Breaking Point (if that is actually possible lol)
