Uro reacted to icomrade in Arma 2: DayZ Epoch 1.0.6
    Hello all,
We are pleased to announce the release of ArmA 2 DayZ Epoch 1.0.6, available for download at: http://epochmod.com/a2dayzepoch.php
This release introduces the integration of some of the most common Epoch community modifications from prior epoch release, DayZ Mod 1.8.8, and a new group system that persists in the database.  Most of the highlights can be found in the change log below, which is fairly comprehensive, but by no means exhaustive.
Please note that community addons/expansions for previous Epoch release WILL NOT work on Epoch 1.0.6, be sure to review the change log for which mods are now included. In addition, the loot table format has completely changed, you must base your loot table modifications on the new format, which can be found by evaluating the stock loot tables: https://github.com/EpochModTeam/DayZ-Epoch/tree/Release_1.0.6/SQF/dayz_code/Configs/CfgLoot
1.0.5.1 and older Single Currency scripts are NOT compatible with 1.0.6, there is no included single currency script in this release. However, because we are so wonderful, we have chosen to integrate single currency saving to the DB, so a third-party HiveEXT is not necessary and the SQF is all that needs to be written/updated.

Uro reacted to TheVampire in VEMF - Vampire's Epoch Mission Framework
Hello Everyone, I know this is long overdue, but I have enough time to begin working on VEMF.
I've been working at a full time factory job for the past year and a half, and their slow season is October to February, and it's about that time of year again. I'm hoping to find a less time consuming job related to my career path in the near future when I get my car loan paid off.
What's new with me? I have the audio equipment my former patrons provided for me, and I have changed internet providers so I now have the speeds to be able to stream reliably. I hope to stream and upload more VEMF related content this time around now that I have better speeds so I don't have the frame drops I was experiencing last time.
This means that continued development on VEMF will mostly be streamed on my twitch. I also now have a twitter instead of a website blog to try to keep you up to date.
I know that I have let down the individuals who were my patrons, and I apologize. I am closing my Patreon down until I feel like I have made it up to the community for my absence. To those that were my patrons, I am still very appreciative of the support you provided me.
I also want to thank IT07 for taking over while I was away, and he has renamed his version of my code to VEMF Reloaded to avoid confusion. I am working off of the existing code I left without his changes.

So where is VEMF headed from here? The Arma 1.52 FilePatching change has affected a lot of how my system works. Even just launching it requires downgrading server security in BI's eyes, and for this reason I want to change it. Changing VEMF to be ran config-based with tags requires a lot of tearing apart and reorganizing code, and all the function calls in VEMF have to be changed. The end result should function better and be more organized. This is the first reason I want to change how VEMF works.
VEMF as originally imagined and written on my Patreon and this original post was supposed to be more than a fetch-the-box mission system, and I feel like I have failed at delivering that. It could be improved farther along the way, but at it's core with the Town Invasions, it was still a fetch-the-box mission system with clear-the-town in front of it. My AI however are very aggressive and intuitive that made it unique but not unique enough to what has already been done. This is the second reason I want to change how VEMF works.

When I first envisioned the town-invasion missions back when I was working on DZMS, I also envisioned an infection mechanic, or hostile takeover mechanic (I prefer to use infection). The idea being that a town would be invaded lightly to begin with, but the longer the town is invaded (over real-time days) the town would become more fortified with more reinforcements, supports, and supplies.
The main drawback with this is that either a server has to run without restarting, or the information has to be stored somewhere in a Hive. With the Epoch Redis calls, this should now be possible.
The interesting part is that after a town reaches a certain level of fortification, missions in the traditional sense can be spawned nearby. One of these missions would be a scout vehicle style mission that would be heading from the infected town to a nearby one. When the scout vehicle reaches the town, and guards it for so long, the AI would also "infect" that town. Over the course of a week unchecked by the player-base of the server, AI could infect multiple towns and be quite a threat to normal day-to-day operations. There would be a users-online check to make sure a low-pop server doesn't become completely infected to ruin new-player experiences.
So where's the reward? The AI along with their fortifications will also be bringing in heavy firepower and the supplies and resources for that heavy firepower. There will also be trader based missions to attack specific locations that are "infected" that will reward crypto instead of relying on finding cache's left by the AI.
I think that this would add a great dynamic to PVE and PVP servers. For PVE servers there will be an option to spawn the server "completely infected" from the start. PVE servers players should band together to take on the AI Antagonists, and on PVP servers, players will be forced to work together to an extent or risk complete annihilation.

I'm interested in your feedback on this new direction VEMF is headed in! Keep an eye on my twitter and twitch for Streaming notifications, and this thread for progress updates. (You can visit my website by clicking my signature banner if you don't know my twitch or twitter)

Uro reacted to IT07 in So tired of all the disrespect towards community scripters
Hi everyone, this time I am posting a totally different topic.
It is about the disrespect towards community scripters that is very well and alive in this huge community.
What I mean with this is that there are TONS of people/admins/players in this community that just grab whatever script they can find and trash it into their server (Most of them do not even know how)
and then EXPECT US (by us I mean the scripters) to FIX IT FOR THEM.... I mean like, where does that come from? Does the community think we are some sort of charity scripters?

I am so tired of all that crap. Of course I am not scripting for money, but even the amount of thanks/credits/respect is to CRY ABOUT.
At the moment of writing this, my continued version of VEMF has about 5000(!) views. And guess what? Only about 6(!!!!) different people replied by either saying thanks or some other respectful message.
Think about that again! ONLY SIX OUT OF FIVE THOUSAND were respectful enough to say thanks or something else....
To make it even worse; among those people that reply are usually people that reply with only: "uugghh It does not work" or "I have an error" or "Change that because it does not work on my server". Everytime I receive a message like that I get soooo pissed because it basically says: (excuse my French) "**** you and your script I do not care about all of that time you put into this I am just a selfish bastard that only cares about having the best scripts on my server and I give 0 ***** about the effort and time put into it. And if I have an issue I just post without even saying one word: THANKS."

And that is what I mean by the disrespect towards community scripters. Pfeww that is out now. I feel much better already.
The real reason why I am posting this though is that I want raise awareness of the fact that this is happening everyday and it is ruining all of the potential that can be achieved with EPOCH and ArmA.
    Feel free to reply.

    Best regards,
    IT07

    Hi all,

This script is from Darkside Altis Life Server by Brun - All credit should be attributed to Darkside and the team:

    1. Create a file called briefing.sqf (it can be called anything you like tbh).

    2. in the briefing.sqf file add:

Save the file 4. You can add the briefing.sqf file to any folder in your mission.pbo, for the purpose of this guide I used a folder called "custom" 5. Now add the following line to your init.sqf or fn_init file (if you have a custom one) in your mission.pbo:   [] execVM "custom\briefing.sqf";   You're done. Now when you or your players press M you will have two new menu options called:   Server Rules Controls   You can add as many custom menus as you see fit. Just add:    player createDiarySubject ["SHORTNAME","MENUNAME"];   and follow the same format as the previous menus.   Hope this helps,   Thanks,   Mike.

Uro got a reaction from Axle in GUIDE: FireDaemon XML for Arma 3 Epoch
There seems to be some people struggling with the concept of setting up Arma 3 within FireDaemon.

This XML is for people who install thier servers in a SANE location - I wont offer any assitance to anyone who insists on installing thier server in a "program files" location. :P
This also is for people who use the default file structure that comes with the Epoch Server files.

I will make things easy for you by giving you a copy of a working Arma3.xml for FD.

Things you will have to do in FireDeamon after importing it:
PROGRAM TAB - Change Working Directory to the location of your Arma3 Server's folder. PROGRAM TAB - Executable - check it exists at that location. Use [...] to point it to the executable (Arma3Server.exe) if it differs from default. PROGRAM TAB - Modify the Parameters specific to your server -  IP / PORT PRE / POST SERVICE TAB -  Modify the location of the Working Directory for the included Tools\log-rotator.cmd. This along with the imported XML should get you up and running.
NB - All the timings set in this XML work for me, you may need to tweak them a little depending on your Server's setup.

Epoch requires BEC running, so this is worth a read!

Set up BEC via FireDaemon. Set up a dependency in the BEC Service requiring the A3 Epoch Server Service is running prior to starting. If you shutdown / restart your server BEC will go down/up with it. Recommend setting a delay to ensure the server is UP before the BEC Service starts. Alternatively:
Create a batch file to execute BEC, set this up in the POST SERVICE tab within the Arma 3 Epoch Service This will initialise BEC after the server has started I recommend setting a delay on this to ensure the Arma 3 Server is UP before BEC starts.
NBB -  DO NOT do both of these methods or you may have multiple BEC's running and/or looping on a restart.

There are a bunch more options in FD of which there are guides on their website.

Also ProTip, FireDaemon have pre-made XML's for common applications on thier website :P

Uro got a reaction from 31_D!4b10 in Some SQL Events I had laying around
Since I'm taking a break from Epoch/Arma2, I thought someone here might get some use out of these SQL EVENT Scripts I had laying around, mostly just housekeeping scripts :)

I'm fairly sure similar scripts are laying around these forums in various places.

I'll assume since your reading this, you know how to add sql event scripts to your database, and understand how to edit the below to your needs.

No further assistance shall be provided by myself with these.

    RemoveBlownUpVehicles.sql

The above code will remove anything in the Object_Data table where the damage is set to 1, I.E. Destroyed.
Event is scheduled every 2 days.

    RemoveOldCharacterData.sql

WARNING:  The above event script will make certain epoch scripts that rely on character data such as EVAC Chopper not function properly, due the the database re-using Character ID slots that have been cleared and assigning them to new players.

The above code will remove anything from the Character_Data table where Alive = 0 , I.E. Dead.
Event is scheduled every 2 days.

    RemoveOldPlayerLogins.sql

The above code will remove anything from the player_login table where the datestamp is older than 30 Days.
    Event runs once a day.

    RestockTraders.sql

The above code will restock the traders_data table up to a quantity of 30 where the current items quantity is less than 5.
    Event runs once a day.

    UnlockAbandonedVehicles.sql

The above code will UNLOCK (Set CharacterID ZERO) anything in the object_data table that is NOT a Vault/Safe/Lockbox/Wooden Storage Shed, Any form of Tent.
So it effectively Removes the keys of any vehicles that haven't been interacted with in a 14 DAY period.
Event is scheduled once a day.

NB: Will need modified if any new storage options come into play.
NBB: A similar event script is planned for the 1.0.5 database update, if not already implemented within 1.0.5 Database Events.

    Enjoy the beanz! :)

Your inability to successfully implement this addon is not anyone's fault but your own. You tell Richie that "Guys like [him] make [you] sick." Well, it is the falsely entitled, lazy, ignorant "server administrators" like you, who make me sick, and who make the creators of addons question whether they should release their work publicly or not, knowing they will have to filter through countless posts from "administrators" like you, just to get to the posts from people who have legitimate issues and deserve the help.

You sacrificed time in you're own lives so that others may appreciate something you've created, and well, all I can say is thank you.

To turn around something in less than a day is nothing short of remarkable.
I play on consoles too, and no, I dont care for the console/pc comments, I enjoy and experience all aspects of gaming. For consoles it can take weeks to release patches and stabilise games, you did it in a day.

Placing roads in TB is much simpler than in Vis3,.

It's a bit fiddly to get setup - look in the terrain forum on BI Forums for more roads info.

It's basically as simple as placing poly-lines where you want your roads - adding extra vertices where you require junctions and using the snap tool to connect your polylines to them,. Then select them all and set them up in the Database.

Once your done export them as a shapefile,.. point your map config to the correct file for your roads, and setup your RoadsLib.cfg and wallah - it's almost too easy ;) :P

NB - You need to setup proper roads + AIpathOffset's in your RoadsLib.cfg - Or else AI will not see your roads to follow them and the offset lets them know which side of the road to drive on ;) - If anyone uses your map for a mission involving AI, they will not work as intended as they have no "paths" to follow regarding the roads.

NBB - When roads are placed clutter is automatically removed from the paths they take.

Uro got a reaction from cring0 in Ground Textures and Mask Image
Placing roads in TB is much simpler than in Vis3,.

It's a bit fiddly to get setup - look in the terrain forum on BI Forums for more roads info.

Uro reacted to TuBz in Marksman DLC?
Have to say DLC's do grind with me to... NOT that I'd object to paying for a DLC at all, bought loads for other games in my time but as Knights says... GRATES HARD.. when THEY say "NO PAY TO WIN"... then SELL better guns to players and call it a DLC! Personally...on my server Players can use the Karts and heli's from the  DLC's...BUT!!!... they will still get  to warning/adverts SUGGESTING they buy them... that the NON DlC owners do NOT get... IMHO Seems to be the fairest way! Also serves as a bit of a tester to allow players the chance to see what's in the pack's and decide IF they want to buy them...good for Bohemia.. but if not does not give any in game advantages to anyone other than a clearer view if bought due to no adverts for a DLC!
Not yet looked at marksman but unless I can allow ALL to use it... it won't be going on my server!

    Edit:
As some seem to  think I am Anti DLC...I am NOT at all..
It is purely that it grates against the DO NOT PAY TO WIN RULES....
(I do not agree with pay to win in the slightest...
but do agree that providers should have some way of compensation for their costs)

I have NEVER taken a penny from  a player to provide the servers I have had and still do provide...
I provide them as a hobby...
yes I probably spend £30 to £40 a month in extra internet and electric I do not need, to provide servers 24/7,
but if I'm honest I'd rather do that than pay some of the POOR unresponsive hosts out there...
I have used hosts before and been very unsatisfied in a few ways..
So as my hobby I provide what I do free.. if players want something changed.. I consider it.. for the good of all not just the one,
IF i can't provide it I will say sorry no, and suggest a server that may have it...
I provide the servers like a lot whether used or not...
I do it for me and the few that have followed me over the years..

If the time comes when I can't afford to provide anything I will ask for help...
But you won't get anything in return...
The only exception to this is if you have worked hard for my community and I have considered you a trust worth chap/or lady to become an admin, any benefits you gain from this WILL NOT have come via donations but via your time and effort put into the community..

Should I still not be able to afford to run servers (it has happened for a while) I close down and my players and I have to go play elsewhere till MY finances Improve...

I think players SHOULD support the work Bohemia do and buy the VERY CHEAP DLC packages they have tried and liked..
But only those..and currently I provide a glimpse of what they are missing by unlocking the packs ..but I still leaving my support to bohemia intact..
IE the adverts suggestion you buy will still be visible.. if you do not own,
I provide a small tester..if you don't like the background adverts.. buy the pack...
If you don't like my way of doing things... there are plenty off other good servers out there...
If you like bornholm go jump on -UG- 's excellent server it's where I fell in love with the map..
I only made my own because myself and my guys where not so keen on the hardcore aspect there..
So I made my own with the help off others.. including Uro himself...this is what I love about this community.. we all help each other.. show each other ways and means etc..
There is so much choice out there.. ( to much looking at each servers player levels sometimes) but bohemia has made a damn fine product and all you guys have added to it to make it the only thing out there I keep coming back to...

Try the DLC's buy them or not totally your choice.. but I won't ever force a player to buy more than the arma 3 package period!

Hope this clears up my attitude to DLC's and bohemia:)

Get out there try the stuff buy the stuff but for god sake enjoy your playtime!
